A statistical impossibility.

I happened to be selected by something known as the Chaos Gacha System. Whether or not I, Katsuya, had been a unexplored canon part of this whole world and didn’t just pop into existence, didn’t matter so much as the fact that I was here with merged memories and by sheer bad luck, the son of someone soon to be on the news if they weren’t already. There’s no way, out of all the schools across all the different prefectures, across the entire world, that I ended up in the same one as that psycho.

The sight beyond the window indicating my apparent feat told me that that was indeed the case.

Ash blonde hair allowed to flow freely just past her shoulders and long bangs framing the sides of her face, I locked gazes with a pair of sharp yellow, near golden, eyes. Pretty. Despite knowing exactly who I was looking at and the fact that she was wearing the same gym tracksuit as everyone else, she instantly stood out, the pretty looks the show always emphasized about her not up for debate.

She raised the ball up between us before turning on her heel, taking off running.

No, no, no, god dammit no!

Why did I end up in school with her of all people? How the hell did I even end up her obsession?

Warm liquid ran around my fingers and I looked down, quickly rubbing away some of the lingering blood from my nose. Shit! Was it my blood?

I looked back up, quickly finding her.

Within seconds of returning to the grass field in the middle of the circular track, she was surrounded by other girls, all of them kicking that ball around. Some of my blood had gotten on that thing.

No one with common sense would do it. No one in their right mind would’ve. Not even I, someone who would’ve gotten a boost of strength from it, would do it.

Had she licked my blood off that thing?

Toga was a psychopath; licking blood of something everyone had been kicking around in the dirt was hardly below her.

Was my luck going to be this bad for everything instead of just the gacha pulls?

Taking a deep breath, I refocused on the window in front of me, ignoring the laughs from a few of the students around me.

+2 Bronze Familiar Gacha Tickets]

Familiar tickets?

Right, right. I’d only skimmed the rules so I couldn’t be 100% on every detail but I was pretty sure those kinds of tickets were rewarded for social achievements. Befriending people and naturally taming animals. That kind of thing.

Why the fuck did an obsession even-

I stopped my complaint short and refocused.

This gacha stuff came with a familiar system. Again, I hadn’t gone through every detail of the thing, so I wasn’t sure what that all involved, but I guess I’d be finding out soon. No point in pulling here and risking an animal literally popping into existence right next to me.

I spent the rest of the period trying and failing to study, paranoid glances up in Toga's direction getting in the way of any real focusing.

XOXO

|Crow|

|Trash Familiar|

A very smart and loyal crow companion with intelligence on the level of a human, she can look for and fetch shiny things or do things a crow could otherwise do.]

First I became psycho girl’s obsession and now the gods of the gacha have decided to keep giving me trash ranked stuff? Who the hell did I piss off to get luck like this?!

Nope, nope. Don’t pass judgment early. I hadn’t thought much of Enflame but in less than a week of training it was turning out to be way better than the description itself led me to believe.

Now, did I have to summon this familiar or-

A light weight suddenly appeared on my shoulder and I glanced over.

A crow, feathers jet black and small eyes the same deep red as my own, jumped off my shoulder and with a flap of its wings landed on the left knee of my crossed legs, looking out at the pond I was in front of before looking back up to me and tilting its head.

“Well, not it, I guess. You’re a girl, right?” I felt a little stupid talking to the thing but the gacha must’ve specified that stuff for a reason. The crow nodded its head, apparently living up to its description and being smart enough to both understand and respond to me. That was cool at least. “Do you already have a name?”

She shook her head.

“I guess I’ll give you one then. Hmmm, how about Crow? I mean-hey!” She bent over pecking at the knee with her beak through my pants, before looking back up, a stare that looked entirely unimpressed aimed up at me. I guess I can’t blame her for not liking that. She was supposed to be as smart as a human and what human wanted to be called human? “Alright, alright…how about Scarlet? You got red eyes like me, so I think its fitting.”

She tilted her head, then stood a little taller, almost seeming to puff herself up as she nodded.

“Scarlet it is then.” I said nodding to myself, shifting slightly but making sure not to knock over my new familiar. “Um, I didn’t really call you out for anything specific. Do you want to go back wherever you were?” Scarlet shook her head. “I guess you can be my eye in the sky then. Just hang around nearby and let me know if you see anyone coming my way?”

Scarlet nodded, a small squawk let out, before taking off with a few flaps of her wings began circling above the part of the park I sat in before I lost her among all the greenery. I could still feel her though, maintaining her presence seemingly not taking up any energy from me but a pull on it keeping me aware of her presence.

More than that, some of the mysterious energy was completely missing. Well, not missing. Summoning her had taken it.

Would dismissing her give it back to me?

Either way, just based off that full conversation and expression of personality I was pretty sure this was going to work well. Sure, it wasn’t some inborn trait for myself, but an early warning system for danger of any kind could come in clutch in any number of situations.

Trash rank my ass. Scarlet was about to become my MVP.

Hopefully.

And I had her because some rotten luck in the form of Toga.

Sighing I fell back.

Psycho tendencies aside, seeing her came with some benefits. She should be around the same age as the main cast and depending on what year she was in I could roughly guess how far off I was from them. I was pretty sure gym classes, while usually a mix of several classes, usually only stuck students in the same year together.

In other words, it wasn’t far out to assume I was the same age as Midoriya and all the others, with possibly a one to two year difference.

Question remained though, what did I do about her?

The fact that she was still in school meant she hadn’t gone off the deep end just yet. A bit of my blood being enough to trigger an apparent obsession wasn’t a good sign though. Shouldn’t she be crushing on some other student in the first place? I remember her backstory involving her obsessing over some student that was always showing up to school injured and-

Fuck!

I looked down at my bandages. This and the blood? Of course I triggered that psycho. Not having any effect on the main events was pretty much tossed out the window because of that damn girl. I for damn sure wasn’t letting her obsession end with me being stabbed and sucked dry.

Probably could’ve phrased that better.

Point is, I’m not dying for her character development.

Which gives me a horrible, morally bankrupt idea.

XOXO

Toga was popular.

Normally I just ate what Aunt Nozomi packed for me up in the classroom, but I’d come down to the cafeteria on the off chance I could catch sight of her. It’d taken a bit of looking around but it wasn’t hard to find her. She sat amongst a group of girls, a pair I recognized from my own class, smiling and laughing with them.

Nothing about that closed mouth smile of hers or the cheery attitude screamed psycho.

Maybe by chance, or already knowing where I was, she happened to lock eyes with her. I waved. She smiled and waved back before instantly returning back to talking with her large group of friends, a few looking my way.

Not a thing about that screamed obsession or psycho. If it weren’t for the gacha system rewarding me I would’ve assumed that was just a nice girl being nice. Everyone knew better than to give anything like that a second thought.

But then again, Toga had apparently been going her whole life suppressing her desire for blood before snapping.  That was the sort of experience that made someone a great actor.

I wasn’t about to doubt the thing making the impossible happen because of what was probably an act.

Wrapping up my lunch, I headed back to class.

Departing from what would be considered my usual, I actually went out of my way to answer questions throughout them and pay attention in any subject I wasn’t 100% sure about. Getting into U.A. on recommendations required more than just good grades and a solid quirk after all. Those recommendations had to come from the teachers and while that didn’t mean suddenly becoming the teacher’s pet, I at least needed them to notice me putting in effort compared to the average joe.

And then gym rolled around.

As usual, I took care of my homework up in the stands beside the track but rather than staying up there to study, I made my way down onto the hard dark material of the track itself and began a light stretch, holding back a groan as soreness cropped up.

Hopefully I got my hands on some kind of quicker healing or stamina trait from the gacha. If something like that came into play early on, I could get much stronger much faster.

But that wasn’t the focus right now. Other than showing the teachers responsible for overseeing our gym period I was taking my physical fitness seriously, this was the only class I shared with Toga. Which made it the easiest place to talk to her.

How I was going to go about initiating that was the question.

Or maybe I needn’t figure that out at all.

“Excuse me!” Toga, all on her lonesome, jogged over from the field, her bangs bouncing with each step as she approached. “Hey.” She said, smiling as she stopped in front of me. “I just wanted to say sorry about the other day again. Your nose isn’t seriously hurt or anything is it?”

“No, its fine.” I said. Falling out of trees, tumbling down forested slopes, accidentally cutting myself with that sword, and all the soreness from working out. Getting hit with a ball was an annoyance at best compared to all that. “You’re Toga, right? I’ve heard some of the students in my class talk about you.”

“You already know my name?” She pouted. “That’s not fair.”

Cute yeah, but still psycho. It was even more obvious why she was so popular after a few words.

“Akaguro.” I said, bowing my head to her slightly.

“Ah, you don’t need to be so formal. I’ll feel even worse for hitting you like that.” Toga smiled a little more wildly, mouth still kept entirely shut. She was extra careful about hiding those sharp teeth of hers. “If you really aren’t mad about what happened, then I guess we can say we’re friends?”

“Sure.”

Become friends with Himiko Toga

+1 Bronze Familiar Gacha Ticket]

And after just one conversation I earned another ticket despite trying to be friendly enough with others earlier in the day.

Obsessed or not, if social activity with this girl gave me pulls, this psycho was going to be my Familiar Ticket farm. It was risky as all hell, but she was just some student right now, not someone experienced with combat. With Bloodboost and everything else I was training with, an actual fight would only go my way. Just had to make sure she didn’t stab my neck from behind or something.

As it was said, no pain, no gain.

-OMAKE!!!/Noncanon short-

A piano.

It was only a few notes, a quick little rift, but I recognized the tune immediately, my eyes jumping from Toga’s golden eyes that were locked with mine to the man now standing across from her, on the track.

Brown trench coat. Brown hat. And-

It was so fast that I barely caught it, but he pulled a revolver from his hips, a single bang filling the air.

Toga, and the ball she held, both covered in blood, hit the ground.

The man, a truly mysterious stranger, glanced up into the stands, gave me a light tip of the hat as he holstered his revolver, and, as screams erupted all across the field, vanished.
