“Hey, Yaoyorozu, what’s your blood type?”

“Blood type? Ah, of course, your quirk. Mine is an A.” Yaoyorozu, in the middle of affixing one of the many steel sheets she’d created with her quirk against one of the room’s windows, stopped and turn to me. “What effect would that have on you?”

“No idea.” I admitted, lowering the labeled vial of blood I’d been examining and returning it to one of the pockets of my utility belt. I wasn’t sure if it’d be approved but, as expected of U.A., unlike other schools they provided, my belt filled with vials of blood from all the major blood types. “I’ve never drunk A before.”

“And this isn’t the time to be experimenting.” I added. The preparation phase we were given as the villains of this test would barely last a few minutes. “I’ve seen Kaminari introduce himself using what looked like electricity and Jirou used those ear jacks of hers during Aizawa’s test.”

“I can create some insulated sheets to combat the electricity if you’re right. Ear mufflers will have to do for the second but depending on the decibels her quirk can reach, I can’t be sure how effective they’ll be.”

“Sounds good.” Giving her a nod, I turned while she moved towards one of the corners, the sounds of freshly made materials hitting the ground. “Can you make one of those sheets small enough for me to carry?”

“Understood.”

Moments later she was handing over the rest of what I would need for all this.

A headset meant to keep out sound and a light brown sheet large around to easily wrap around a person. Those along with the small ball shaped cameras I already had her create would make this even easier.

“Pad the room if you have time too. It’s best to assume Jirou’s quirk comes with some kind of sensitivity to sound.”

“I thought of that as well.” Yaoyorozu nodded but raised a brow. “I agree that if one of us are to go engage them, you’re better suited for that role, but you’re leaving before the preparation phase is over?”

“Yep, like you said it’s what I’m suited for. Here I’m just an extra set of hands.” When it came to setting up the defenses of a room, it was going to be downright impossible to compete with someone who could create who knows how many things. “I say we lean into our strengths. If I’m fast enough, I’ll be able to set up cameras near all the entrances they’ll be choosing from.”

“I see, well in that case-“ Yaoyorozu cleared her thought then pointed towards the door. “Make sure you teach those heroes a lesson, and if you lose, don’t even bother crawling back, punk.” She instantly dropped that, I think it was supposed to be threatening, tone she was using to mutter to herself. “Was that mean enough? Do villains even call their minions punks? Maybe goon would’ve been better?”

I guess she was taking after Iida, and as she put it, embodying the spirit of the trial.

“Got it, boss.” I said, going along with it. I’d done far more cringe worthy things with Himiko for something like this to be much of a bother. “I’ll make sure those heroes regret ever stepping foot in our territory.”

My typical villain lines got rid of uncertainty, the both of us exchanging amused smiles before I took off while she got back to setting up the room’s defenses. Any villain sprouting off lines like that was just asking to get beat up like fodder in movies.

Unfortunately for our opponents, that wouldn’t be happening.

Todoroki, with his ice alone if he decided to trap me in a glacier, could take a win in an instant. I might be strong enough to break up some of it, but the cold was the real problem. Keep his distant repeating that a few times and any match between us would always go to him.

Bakugo was second up on the list of people of 1-A I thought could beat me, but his chances were slim to none. As explosive as his quirk was, from what I could tell from watching him go against Midoriya, he wasn’t fast enough to actually hit me and get a victory as long as I stayed on my toes.

Everyone else that came to mind were circumstantial at best; Midoriya somehow landing a full powered hit, Ashido recklessly using that acid of hers, or Uraraka managing to surprise me with a tap. All of that was unlikely or didn’t make much sense but still technically possible.

No offense to them, but as things were, even if they made that list in their own ways, I didn’t really see Kaminari or Jirou giving me any trouble, especially not with everything that’d been prepared.

XOXO

“-besides, that Akaguro guy doesn’t do anything fancy right? It’ll be enough to knock him out.”

“But you can’t control it?”

“You should keep your distance when I use my quirk.”

Outside of the main entrance of the building they’d soon be heading through, Jirou rolled the fingers of the hand she had stuffed in her pocket.

She was up against two students who got into U.A. on recommendations.

Yaoyorozu Momo had already proven how she managed that through both her quirk, able to somehow create stuff from her body, and her smarts, impressing every teacher in the classes they went through so far. If she’d been paying attention, and she seemed like the type to be prepared, she’d be ready to counter their quirks.

And the other guy…

Jirou couldn’t help but frown.

There was something strange about him.

Despite arguably talking with more members of the class than anyone else, he hadn’t been vocal enough to give a definitive impression, but he was strong enough to etch out a placement ahead of Yaoyorozu and get in on recommendations too.

The two would be difficult to deal with and the person she had for a partner didn’t have much control over their own quirk.

“The preparation phase is now over.” All Might’s voice came in over the earpieces they were given.

No use complaining about the odds.

She and Kaminari stepped in through the front door of the building, Jirou winding out her left jack and stabbing it into the wall of the long plain lit up hallway they were in while he kept a look out.

“You think villains actually have bases this empty? If they’re going to do crime, I figure they’d use the money to actually enjoy themselves or something.” She tuned out his dumb question, leaning closer to the wall.

Talking. Footsteps. Breathing. The dead giveaways she was hoping for were missing, all signs they’d prepared for her quirk. She tuned in further, ignoring anything unnecessary like the birds beyond and around the building. Heartbeats and any other natural sound of the body; however they prepared, unless they were both holding up in a room specifically meant to combat her hearing, she’d be able to pick them out. And if that were true-

A whirl.

Jirou turned towards the stairway at the end of the hall to their left, pulling her jack out of the wall and keeping it pointed straight ahead.

“You found them?” Kaminari asked, following behind her.

“No.” She said, her jack rising up, and pointing directly at the top of the wall beside the stairway. As they got closer, she picked out the source of the faint mechanical whirls she’d noticed, distinctly different than most of the other technology running through the building. She extended her jack further, wrapping around the object and easily pulling it from the spot it’d been stuck too. “But I think they know where we are.”

A small black camera in the shape of a ball with a flatten adhesive underside.

“Maybe that’s one of the cameras All Might is using to watch us?” Kaminari guessed.

“You’re not the brightest light bulb around, are you?”

“What is that supposed to-“

The lens of the camera suddenly opened.

Jirou leaned back and tossed it away from-

SKKKKRRRREEEEE!

Her hands shot to her ears, pain deafening her.

At the same time, the wall beside them burst apart, rumble and dust pelting them. Akaguro stood in the self made hole, their eyes meeting for a split second before he shot for Kaminari, the latter’s eyes widened and hands raising up.

A wave of yellow electricity shot forth, some of the wild arcs hitting her and throwing just worse jolts of pain that left her twitching on top of that deafening sound. The sparks that were meant to hit Akaguro were swallowed by some kind of sheet thrown forward and quickly secured around Kaminari using the capture tape they were all given.

Ignoring her pain, she dipped one of her jacks down to the amplifiers built into her costume, only for Akaguro to hold the struggling Kaminari between them. That moment spent frozen, trying to decide whether or not to risk using her quirk, was all it took for him to be tossed at her and for her to be tied up too.

“Both of the heroes have been captured. The villain team has won!” Her hearing returned just in time to hear All Might’s announcement, but her focus was drawn by Akaguro, her jacks raised towards him.

Helmet replaced by a headset, he stood over them, his dark hair and the ends of his jacket shifting along as if there were a breeze blowing through. That uncanny ability he and All Might both seemed to have wasn’t the strange thing that made him stand out so much.

All Might had jumped straight to being the most powerful person she’d ever heard. Somehow that weird Midoriya kid jumped up there with him when he used that crazy strong quirk of his.

Ba-dum. Ba-dum. Ba-dum.

Akaguro’s heartbeat was calm, not like that of someone who’d just rushed two people prepared to use their quirks on him. And, despite not having the same strength as those other two, he stood out. From his heartbeat to the sounds his body made when he moved. All of it sounded so…aggressively oppressive especially for someone so irritating calm about taking her down.

Being this closed just reaffirmed things for her.

She’d much rather keep her distance from him.

XOXO

“Don’t look so down you two. When it comes to hero work, there is such a thing as a bad match up. It would be smart to consider this an experience for the future rather than blaming yourselves for how things went.” All Might reassured the two once we were all back in the observation room. “Speaking of match ups, while both of our villains here played their roles well, Yaoyorozu will be considered the MVP of this match. The effective use of her quirk is what enabled young Akaguro to execute such swift takedowns after all.”

Yaoyorozu, amusingly enough, swelled with pride beneath All Might’s praise. I’d admit to wanting the title myself but there was no getting around the fact that Jirou and Kaminari both made that list of people capable of getting a rare win over on me if they got to use their quirk.

Tanking how many volts that guy could dish out wasn’t in the cards for me. Maybe Iron Mind would give me enough time to take him down if I got hit but that was a big maybe considering it very much still had physical limitations. The same went for Jirou; sound was too dangerous a weapon to be tanking, if I could at all.

From the brief encounter I could tell, like Bakugo, neither were actually fast enough to reliably hit me but there was always a chance. Yaoyorozu’s quirk pretty much eliminated that possibility to the point I hadn’t needed mine at all, that sound from the camera an idea of hers she only clued me in on once I was setting them up.

“Nice work, boss.” I said, ignoring the window that popped up.

“Thank you.” She said, looking just as determined as she was proud. “Though I still feel like we’re tied. An argument could easily be made for the title to be yours.”

So, she was competing with me?

“Our next match is team E against team F. Team E will be playing the part of the heroes!” All Might announced before I could respond.

That was Himiko’s match and her partner was the only guy in class timid enough to give Midoriya a run for his money, his quirk involving communication with animals. They were up against Aoyama and Ashido.

How was she going to go about getting at those two?

XOXO

(A/N: I actually didn't expect this to be much of focus but realized it was a good chance to show how Katsu and Himiko appears in fights from the perspective of others. Katsu's pretty obviously pure force, reaction, and speed due to his rolls. Oh and Jirou definitely didn't pick up on something interesting, further emphasizing that Katsu's body isn't normal. Neither is All Mights or Deku's really but you get the point. Could come into play later, could not.

Foreshadowing isn't really a good idea when the gacha can upset and override my plans but I'm doing it anyways.

Anyways, I hope you all have a good day.)

As always, I'll advise that you start posting on qq. I think it's something that would really help your patreon.

I saw your comment on WN too but I guess I forgot to respond. planning on making an account this weekend or sooner if I get the free time. thanks for the suggestion 🙂

It's one of the best places for this brand of story. The quality of your story is very high, too, so with some posting steadily you'd do well. Another big thing is being on author discords, like Shiro's Omniverse. That advertising potential is truly massive. My qq naruto fic has about 7.5k watchers, and much of that is by leveraging all these factors.

Sounds good but not going to lie, discord kind of scares. I need to start dedicating a specific time where I actually respond to commentors and people rather than just checking whenever a notification pops up. Webnovels already bad enough in that sense when it comes to distracting me from my writing and I imagine discord would force me to really stick to routine otherwise I'll end up chatting instead of writing. But I guess if I want to write seriously I'm just gonna to need to up my discipline and, like I said, have a dedicated time for interacting with people. I've had enough people mention discord for me to think about it quite a bit but maybe joining someone else's server rather than creating one is a better place to start.

Turncoat

It's one of those things that plenty of authors isn't JAZZED about doing, but joining a big server is a good start. DarkWolfShiro's server has some nsfw stuff in it, but it also has thousands of people. You need to post in a bit before you get access to advertising, unless someone vouches for you and gets you the big time author tags. Still, VERY useful. Using someone elses' server is a good starting position. https://discord.gg/darkwolfshiro

thought u were going to pull a batman on them not gonna lie. Saw your comment on his design choice being inspired by red hood and stuff so... Blitzing them was cool too. Guess his sneaking buff will stay on the back burner a little longer.

Thirdratewriter

Someone's going to be pulling something of a batman with the skills taught to her, but yeah, Katsu favors brute force over sneaking around too much. I'm sure he'll put it to use on more dangerous people though.

Reading Kaminari being hoisted off into the darkness screaming as his electricity fizzles out would have been funny after he disregarded Katsu, both saying death lines by the way lol. Would have made the impact on Jiro more terrifying. But Toga pulling a batgirl stunt would be pretty cool.
