Hey! 

Hope you're well! I wanted to share some progress on a new an approach I'm trying for my latest cover work on the RPG - Blackbirds. This one is a grayscale approach but I think I've found a new way of rendering that is a bit more intuitive(at least for me personally).

This video is a realtime painting process of what I'm currently working through - check the attachments for the two brushes used on this one. I also attached the grayscale character isolated so you could look at the progress so far.

A 15/10 split with Threadless sounds like a really good deal. I have a bunch of tanktops from them that I bought over 10years ago and they're still intact so it sounds like a good opportunity, especially considering how big of a market there is for Garfield merch.

I just started using a program called Controller Companion a while ago, that lets me assign my Xbox controller's buttons to keys such as the right stick zooming in and out of the canvas and such. I'd say that a good cheap alternative to the tour box as the program is three dollars USD. If anyone was wanting to try out a similar setup.

Dave - regarding the shirt shop topic - I've been doing shirts online for 6 years or so now and I've found each site has different strengths and weaknesses. The Threadless rate is pretty decent the only downside is they don't have as much natural traffic as some of the other sites, their print and shirt quality is pretty good. Teepublic is the one I've sold the most on over the years.. the rate is less, only about 4 bucks per shirt, but the volume you sell thanks to traffic easily makes up for it imo, and the shirt quality is probably mid range.. not excellent but not bad. Redbubble is great for similar reasons.. massive traffic, probably the most out of this list, and one of the only print on demand sites that print and ship overseas as well, however is lowest print and shirt quality of the bunch imo. Neatoshop doesn't have a ton of natural traffic but is 100% the best quality out of all the print on demands I've ever used over the years. What I've found to be the best for me as far as both profit on sales as well as not sacrificing quality - is use Neatoshop's Dropship service with my Etsy shop. Basically I list the shirt on Etsy, someone buys on there, I put the order in with Neatoshop and they print and ship etc with your logo and info so it looks like it came from you. They only charge you slightly above cost to print so you end up making decent profit per shirt, depending on how you price. Highly recommended because Etsy has been far and away the best place to sell for me. All of the sites in combination can create decent passive bucks.

Thanks for the info! Neatoshop sounds like a decent option - do you find the submission of orders is easy enough to do through their system? Also, are they quick with their turnaround and(generally) how long do you think the overall order to person receiving product takes? Other side of that as well - are you doing all your own customer service?

NP! Yeah it's pretty easy.. you just copy paste the buyer address and select the shirt and shipping method then submit. Usually the order gets shipped within 5-8 days or so.. but the buyer can opt for priority mail at higher rate and they will push it to the top of their que and get it out within a day or two. As far as customer service, they will contact you on Etsy and if it's a problem Neato can take care of, Alex from Neato does an awesome job taking care of them.. generally though their quality is really good so I've have very little issues so far with customers. This Neato / Etsy link does take some initial set up to get rolling though due to Etsy policies.. but there is info on the Neatoshop artists facebook group. I will send you some info.

Oh yeah there are way more sites, just way too many to list them all here.. I just wanted to show some examples of how they all have different pros and cons... I tend to try out all of them and stick with the ones that perform the best over time.. each platform has a different audience as well so things that don't sell on one site may on another.. the things I sell on Amazon Merch (also a great one) are usually a lot different than on Redbubble for example.

Dave, after you render in grayscale do you completely paint over it again or just drop color in on a multiply layer?

Hey Dave, i downloaded the brushes but i a have a problem, i have to set the render brush too big for it to actually draw something, do you know if i can reduce the draw that represents where the brush are and maintain the effective area? this is hard to explain kkkkkkkkk but i hope you can understand

hey man, i think my last answer was wrong, because i was seeing that dave painted in that case all the values with a multiply layer on top of a white base, after that he droped the colors beneath that multiply layer normally, with no filter

Hi Dave, this question might be late to the party but: the "General Painter" brush in this brush set, is it supposed to look like a really thin line overlaid on a soft squarish brush? I don't know if importing the brush messed settings up or what. Also, what's the nice chalky, dusty brush that you are using in this video? Doesn't look like "General Painter".
