Hello!

There has been fewer updates recently, sorry! I've been busy with the interview process to hire a 3D artist. I met 8 talented people for an interview and I have one last person to see today. Some of them already have been selected to take a technical test where they will have to make some 3D models and textures related to Paralives. Then, I'll be able to choose someone so we're getting pretty close to officially having someone joining the team! That's really exciting!

It's time for a new poll! It's about the name of the currency (money) in the game. Paralives Hub did a similar poll on Twitter back in August so thanks for the inspiration! I selected the 4 names I prefer so please help me decide and vote for your favorite one!

I'll announce the winner and official name for the in-game currency in a couple of days.

Thank you! <3

Alex

Edit: The poll is now closed and public. Thanks everyone for voting, Paradimes will be the official name for the currency in Paralives!

Egor

‘Paradimes’ sounds so cool 🤩

Anonymous

Paradimes is kind of a long name for currency, idk

Anonymous

Paradimes for sure!

Rivers

Paros!!🤑 Also glad everything is going well with the interviews.

Anonymous

I like Paros because it’s short and simple. I think Paradimes is a little long.

Anonymous

yeah paradimes is too long for me lol. I like Paros :)

Anonymous

I kind of want it to have it’s own name that’s exclusive to the game with no ties to real life currency. I think Paros is really cute!

Pcrafter1

Paros is much smoother- paradimes is a little long

Anonymous

Paros sounds so cool! It makes me think of Euros!

Anonymous

I like the idea of paradimes being the official name and paros being an abbreviation kinda like USD

Andy

Paradimes is real clever lol

Anonymous

I love the pun with Paradimes/paradigms.

Nicholas Byrd

Paradimes has the most votes, but I really don’t like it. A currency name needs to be short and sweet. Think about it in this way “this lot costs 50,000 paradimes” vs “this lot costs 50,000 Peros” peros just rolls off the tongue better. So obviously Peros is my vote. Peradimes is a nice sounding name... but it doesn’t work for me personally.

Macey

I love paradimes for the same reason Simtroverted does, more puns please ❤

Anonymous

Love the play on words with Paradimes

MiKA

People complaining about paradimes being too long, have you forgotten what the in game currency for the sims is called? That’s a pretty long name too lol

Anonymous

Paradimes kinda reminds me of paradigm shift haha! I actually like Parels, followed closely by Paros. So excited!

Anonymous

I like paradimes, rolls off the tongue well! Simoloens is also a long name ;P

Miralda808

Paradimes are the best for me to speak and it is remindable because it sounds smooth

Jade Mulick

I like Paradimes! Paros is a bit too similar to the Pokemon, Paras.

Anonymous

Personally I think that creating fancy name for game currency is overused nowadays. Why not just coins, gold or money? Because it will be easier to sink into game world or because other games do it too? I always use terms "gold" or "money" no matter the actual name so it doesn't matter to me much but I would like to see things simple in Paralives so I voted "coins". By the way, first comment ever on Patreon, love the project so far and hope it will not be just gimmicky technical demo :) Good luck and thank for your hard work :)

LaurenCheerio

I totally get the lack of updates I know you’re hard at work building this game and building this team! ❤️ Still so excited about this game I squeal whenever I see an update!

LaurenCheerio

Also I’m thinking Paradimes as my top choice, followed by Parels. ☺️

>>28979502

"Coins", "bucks", "gems", etc etc reminds me too much of what mobile games are doing these days. It seems really cheap and generic.

Anonymous

Are you hiring a 3D artist just for the paras or are you planning on retexturing the whole world? Can’t wait for this to come out btw😊

Anonymous

Pardimes is too long in my opinion. Paros sounds great :)

Anonymous

I personally like Parels, most people seem to like Paradimes but it makes it sound like just change like obviously dimes, and nickels, quarters. Loonies/toonies if we are talking Canadian money, it's a much more generalized term for currency amount whereas since dimes is 10 cents, it makes it seem like it's just change.

Anonymous

I hope Paros wins its short and cute

Anonymous

Dang! I love paradimes but can we call them paros for short, or slang?

Simday1

Paradimes is quirky and cute! I instantly popped up saying it.

Anonymous

I really LOVE paradimes a lot! Sounds really good! But i dont get what yall mean by its "too long" it has the same amount of letters as simoleons but that isn't too long? LOL I also really LOVE parels! Ugh why is it such a hard decision!!

S&M Gonzalez

I like Paros is short and cute and easy to remember I feel paradimes is too long and would probably get shortened over time

Anonymous

I like Paros best but would like Paradimes equally, my only thing is that Paradimes doesn’t seem as “out of this world” and almost too realistic.

Anonymous

Am I the only one who actually prefer any of the other three options other than paradimes, lol.

Simplicity

Paradimes or Paros, I really like Paradimes though!

Anonymous

Paradimes feels more natural than any of the others, it's definitely my favourite hands down.

Anonymous

paradimes sound like paradigmes, this can't be good for a currency if asking me.

Anonymous

Paradimes sounds so cute, I love it

Jennifer Stephenson

Paradimes is cute but I honestly prefer coins, I’m just imagining handing someone like a bag of coins when you buy things. I think coin is cute enough lol

Stermatical

Personally, I think Paros would make the most sense out of 4. Parels sounds too much like barrels, Coins would be too generic, and with Paradimes, I keep thinking about Paratimes, which sounds like some magazine

Mo Des

Paradimes sounds adorable!! As for the Simoleon comparison, I personally think that’s much more of a mouthful than Paradimes is, even though they’re both the same length. But if it needs to be shortened, Paros fits cutely as well!

Anonymous

I like Paradimes.

Anonymous

I love paros! Paradimes for some reason will make me feel like I have no cash even as a millionaire in-game 😂😂😂

Henrik Oskar Hovind

Not only does Paradimes make me think of paradigm, I also can’t get my new favorite artist out of my head:... Paradime 🙉

Aaron

Paradimes is so witty! I'm glad other people see it the same way 😆

Megamusic

I voted for paradimes as paros sounds too much like paras .coins are boring and I didn't like the other one . :)

h2o Queen

Paradimes has a nice ring to it. I like it :)

Alex Massé
>>28979800

They will work on everything art related so characters, objects, props, etc, etc and all the textures too. The goal is to finish the characters together, improve the overall art style a bit and work on all the objects and textures :)

Elen Pink

How about paraCOINS? I think that might be better than paradimes.

Anonymous

I love paradimes BECAUSE it sounds like paradigms. So fitting for a simulation game.

Anonymous

Parels I just don't like the sound of. Coins is too simple. Paros doesn't make sense to me. Paradimes is witty. Someone mentioned paracoins and I like that too!

Gary Hardt

I agree Paradimes makes a lot of sense. :D

Anonymous

i like Paros most because it is special and not so obvious like paradimes or coins. and parels just sounds weird to me

Anonymous

Parels are so fancy, makes me think of non-pareil. But paradimes, I cannot pass up. You witticist!

Anonymous

I really like Paros! It is simple to say and reminds me of Euros, so it rolls off the tongue nicely. Paradimes is cute but I agree with @moemoe and @Shanna Washington... The "dime" part has so much underlying semantic meaning that I'm not sure about its in-game connotation. Coins remind me of mobile games and, like "dimes," reminds me of loose change. Is parels pronounced like perils?

Anonymous

I agree with an earlier comment... Paros is nice, but ultimately sounds too similar to Paras. Paradimes is punny and has a nice ring, which is what I voted for, but I do agree that the "scale" of the money might seem skewed to people who use the word "dime" to mean 1/10th of a dollar.

RunningInThe20s

Parels sound like a good one if you already know that it's currency but IMO it's not intuitive. Paradimes is waaay better still because of the witty homophone.

Anonymous
>>28983203

I was going to pick Parels, but you changed my mind. I didn't even make the paradigms connection.

Anonymous

I voted for Parels but then later think Paradimes sounds better

Amy Joscelyn

Seeing Parels makes me think they should be called Pearls. Parels feels like it would easily get confused with Paralives when it's spoken in haste. But having something like Pearls, which contains the same letters, become the currency would make for an interesting design for the money as well.

Hanna van Rooijen

Paradimes sounds very cute! And awesome that someone is joining the team soon :)

Morgan LF

I like the punny-ness of paradimes!

Bodil Bührmann

I find Paradimes is much alike Paradigm which does not refere to payment. Paradomes would have been better since it sound like paradoks..and that can refers to money....hehe.

74xworse_thanyou

Paradimes is great. As for it messing with peoples perception of the currency, I really don't think that matters. I can't think of many games that have currencies that translate to real life, and I for one will be measuring my houses in bananas, thank you.

74xworse_thanyou
>>28983388

Paracoins feels really mobile-gamey to me. Which just brings to mind gimmicks and micro transactions. But that's just me 🤷‍♂️

Anonymous

LOL Paradimes sounds perfect!

Vidde

I like Paradimes, only voted for Paros because it will be easier to say in videos and streams =)

Michelle Mo

I do like paros the best, but when the people are shortened to paras, it becomes too close and confusing I think

Maskra

‘Parels’ is Pearls in Dutch.. :D It would be nice to have a more ‘international language’. Not everybody is American or English speaking so no dimes for me. ;)

Zinck

why everyone choosing paradimes, i feel like thats too.. ehh, like theres all ready parafolk.. so wouldnt it make sense to make it something like parels?

Zinck
>>29025973

one of the many days im dissappointed to b an american cuz we always gotta americanize everything TT even curency, like y cant we make the curency its own instead of dimes, its weird bro

Anonymous

My take on each as I really don't like any of them: Parels - It doesn't sound like currency, which is a bit weird to me still. Unlike caps, coins, credits, simoleons, etc. Reminds me of parcels? Coins- Way too basic and could be confused with a lot of different apps & games. Paros- My least favorite. It's going to get really confusing when people say paras all the time because it sounds so close. Paradimes- This wouldn't make sense to non-English or non American natives as to why it would be called this, but I am a fan of it's relation to money. I would personally be a fan of something like "paracoins" or "paracreds"

Anonymous
>>29029481

I agree, I really would have preferred a "paracoins" option but "paradimes" was pretty close. Didn't even think of "paracreds", that one sounds really cool lol

Anonymous

My 2 cents on the ParaLives currency: Parels - It doesn't really sound like a type of currency to me. Coins – This is way too basic. Also universally used in many other apps and games. Paros – I think this is way too close to our shortened use of the term “Para” for it to be used as a currency type. Paradimes – This is closer to what I was personally thinking of. But a suggestion, change up the spelling maybe Paradymes, ParaDymes, ParaDyme. Sometimes the small changes make big impacts.  So anyway, everyone in my family is a gamer. They know about ParaLives and are highly supportive, so when this poll popped up everyone gave me their 2 cents worth and some ideas to pass on: Paraloons – Everyone knows the Doubloon which would make the connection fairly universal to players, but distinctive to ParaLives. PCoins – Para + Coin, at least would make the term “coin” less basic and more game connected, though I find it kind of bland myself :P Paraleens – My youngest’ gamers suggestion and spelling (he is 7). His favorite treats are Pralines.  He wanted to know why we (adults) didn’t think of it ourselves*rolls eyes and laughs* Personally ….sounds yummy to me!! So there are my 2 cents worth (plus a few more ) Blessings

Anonymous

They're all good names, but Paradimes is just so Americanised

Egor
>>29020650

English is spoken by lots of people. Even though I’m from Russia I’m okay with paradimes as it sounds cool.

Anonymous

I like paros. It makes me think of Esperanto.

The Duke of Rockford

Or just use "Florin", an early international currency. At least Europa Universalis IV used that as the unit of currency. ;P

The Duke of Rockford

Hmm, I just realized... since we can choose what units of measurement to use in game, why not let us choose the name of currency in-game as well?

Kisica

Parafolks, paradimes... don't you think there'll be too many words with para- ? It doesn't sound good for me, my vote is for simple Coins

Anonymous
>>29170325

Even if the option is there, I think there should be a canon name for the currency.

Anonymous

Why not just para?

Alex Massé
>>29479261

The characters are named Para (singular) and Parafolks (plural) and it can be shortened to Paras too :)

Anonymous
>>29479261

oh my bad this makes sense :) I just thought of it since para is also a colloquial word for money in my language

Anonymous
>>29205142

Sims? Simolians? You only say its too much because youre not used to it

Anonymous

Hi @Alex ! What about the french translation ? Quebec couldn't allow english words everywhere in this game lol ! Thanks for the great work ! And happy new year :)

Anonymous

Suggestion : Para = Para / Parafolk = Parasonnes / Paradimes = Paratimes

Anonymous
>>30960609

Translation wise, do you plan to open the translation files so people can work on translations to their own language? If so, I'm up for helping to make Finnish translation. Para, Paralaiset, aaand maybe Parahat! (Raha is coin in Finnish so PaRaha is a fun wordplay 😅)

Elen Pink

I know this is late but I think the name of the currency should be more universal. I say this as an American. I do not think every country uses the "dime" system. Paracoins sounds a lot more universal-more people from around the globe might be able to relate.

Anonymous

Paradimes makes me think of paradigm shifts and it makes my nerdy little heart so happy!

N00dlex

Funny how parels means pearls in my language
