What’s up everyone! Andrei here ready to bring you some music!

As you might know, this past year and a half, we’ve established a lot of things concerning the audio direction in Paralives. We made many music exploration demos, tested different sound approaches for foley, ambience, UI sounds and many more little secrets! As a matter of fact, these past few weeks, we’ve been brainstorming the details on how our Parafolks will actually speak and communicate with each other (more to come in the future 😌).

At this point in the development, we are pretty much done with brainstorming our music direction, so we wanted to show you all what we decided to go for in the Build mode specifically! I’m going to go into the specifics of our core vision for the music, how we got to the end result, our plan to produce the rest of the tracks and how the music actually interacts with the game!

🎥 In the above video, you can listen to 2 new Build mode tracks:

🎵 0:00 - “Farewell Froggy” track 🎵 3:26 - “4 am” track sample (showcasing the day and night cycle music transition)

How we came up with it!

Our main vision for the music in the Build mode was to do something catchy, easily identifiable while not too distracting and avoid being annoying through repetition. The music should evoke a sense of spaciousness to reflect all the possibilities in the Build mode and inspire the player to come up with fresh new ideas. All of that while fitting the cozy mood we want to give to the game. That sounds pretty simple right? Well 😅, it took up until the 44th demo to find something that would really bring all this criteria to the next level. In that last demo titled “Unconventional”, I wanted to take an instrument (in this case my acoustic guitar) and play it in as many ways as possible and combine all the layers together in an “unconventional” manner. The result was pretty cool!

After reviewing all the demos created, we decided to combine this 44th demo with another demo called “Paradigma” that featured more ambient, spacious, soft elements. The end result were tracks just like “Farewell Froggy” and “4am” as featured in the video above. Both these tracks feature a main riff as the core of the song and have similar instruments such as electronic hi-hats, soft pads, and various acoustic instruments. And voilà! That’s pretty much how we got to the Build mode musical direction!

Here’s a screenshot of the many layers that comprise the track “Farewell Froggy”

How it works in the game!

The cool part about the music inside the Build mode is that each track will have 2 different versions: one for daytime and another one for night time. As the player switches time of day the track versions will switch too to fit the different mood. So, going back to what I said earlier, the “Day” versions feature mainly acoustic instruments  and therefore the “Night” alternative versions  feature their electronic counterpart. So technically the instrumentation and arrangement between both versions is (most of the time) “exactly the same” which allows them to transition smoothly. We had brainstormed many more ways to make the music interactive (more versions, divide it by layers) however, we concluded that either they were not a fit for the Build mode or they were too ambitious time-wise to do for the base game. Which leads me to my next topic!

How we’ll do the rest!

Our production plan is pretty simple. In order to produce a Build mode track, we have to make 3 different 1-minute demos first. Once completed, we’ll choose our favorite and leave the other 2 for consideration later in development. I’ll then polish and extend the demo up to 3-4 minutes and make an early mix to implement it in the game. The alternative version of the track will be produced later in the development. Once we attain the number of Build mode tracks we aim for, we will go into some post-prod polishing and maybe even do more tracks!

So there you have it! So far that has been our work with the music of the Build mode. There’s so much more I’d love to show you such as the music in the Paramaker and other game modes (which I won’t mention 😉) so those ones will have to be for another time! Thank you all for your support and I hope you enjoyed today’s post!

Buh byeee!!! 🪕🎵

Well, isn't that lovely! I love that there are two versions for day and night and I like the fact that they aren't too jarringly different. Great job!

Lucas Melo

Amei as music tracks! 😊

Naomi Greene

amazing work as always! this music gives me a strong balance between feeling relaxed & productive. is it release day yet? 😅

Oh Andrei both are amazing. They’re incredibly relaxing, I let the video run on my tv on repeat for half an hour while I was doing chores and I loved every second of it. I’m sure it will be a very nice and calming experience to build with this music in the background. Thank you for the incredible work as always!

I don't know why Farewell Froggy made me cry. I find it so nostalgic... Will we be able to lock a day or night mode, depending on our preference ? I like that it can switch, and that it doesn't have tons of variations (say, for each category of the build "mode" for instance), but sometimes when you're trying to focus, or if you have to be careful about sensory overload, it'd be a nice thing to be able to temporary say "I know I'm playing by day but I'd prefer to hear only night mode for a while". Or... just a box to check, really XD

S&M Gonzalez

Can't wait for a Paralives OST!! :D

Luther Duncan

AHhHhHhHh ! those guitar strings !!!! 😍😍😍😍

Agatha

In LOVE with farewell froggy!!! (Full disclosure- not the hugest fan of 4am but I trust u guys)

Becky

4am gives me 8am rushing to work vibes vs the sleepy chill of enjoying a 4am cup of coffee or waiting for the sunrise in the summer.

pickledcow .

I'm really liking this music. nice chill vibes and plucky strings to build too

Vaše nadšení a láska pro vaší tvorbu, mě neustále dojímá a těší mě být vaším podporovatelem. Hudba je skutečně podmanivá a hladí. Velice si vážím vaší práce a velmi děkuji, že to nevzdáváte. Posílám z České Republiky velké objetí.

I like them! 4am night version is my fav! :)

BooDotBoo .

I’m digging the relaxing island-ish vibes of this! So relaxing. I can already imagine building my house and zoning out to the music.

Zefora

I love how relaxing the music is!

queentowwy

I love them both!! I think the guitar strumming sound needs to be turned down just a hair but other than that I love both songs!!! So unique and pleasing to the ear! Cannot wait for more updates!!

Fox

The way the music switches is so cool!! I can imagine building a house to be really nice and relaxing while listening to this.

Max

The production quality is so high 😭 I already know I will spend hour after hour building in this game just for the music alone

Stermatical

These tracks totally hit the vibes! Andrei’s truly talented! 😊

Jaline

I like all of these songs, so for me you reached your objectives. :)

Kristen

God this is beautiful.

You guys need to up your marketing game - I recently spoke a long time Simmer who still hadn't heard about Paralives. More people need to know about this <3

Shota Tsunamura

Is there a ukulele? If so, I’m digging it.

Leopoldine

These songs are perfect ! ♥

Queen Alyssa

I'm late to this one but I so love the acoustic feel of these songs! It really fits the vibe of the game

SymmaGe

omg, this is such a vibe. I adore this. Great job!!! ❤❤

dividebyzero

at the start of froggy i was like "eh its ok" but then every note made me like it more! and 4 am is just great all around.

Lyyo_

Andrei, you lil piece of genius, THIS IS AWESOME. I think this is going to be my go to when I can't sleep, it's perfect.

comprehensive galaxy

Oh dang, I really love the idea of day and night cycles having their own musical vibe while maintaining the same melody. Excited to hear those transitions in-game!

Khlas

I enjoy the life is strange feels, and a big fan of music that change depending of what is going on in a game. good job.

Melissa van Wieringen

Ok now I need it to be available on Spotify or YouTube because both songs are so catchy and useful for study/work focus. Also I cannot help myself but think it's an ode to the Froggy chair in Animal Crossing, haha

Andrea Owens

I like this a lot. I want this to be a song for me to wake up to lol

Desirée Eriksson

I'm personally not a big fan of the ukulele sound. Can you disable certain songs like in ts2?

Shelby

Farewell Froggy sounds so cozy! I love it

Kechi

this build mode music is so relaxing 😌

HayIshMandy

Omg I love this! I wanna play it around my house😭

shimonade

Build music sound very nice. Cheery and fun - can't wait to play the game myself :) . Do you guys, think that it would be possible to have nature sound effects when we're in live mode? Like, I'd like to hear the forest when I'm in nature, or city noises in the background, when I'm in a city like place. But, especially nature sounds. That would be soo cool for me😊

Sarah

Oh this is phenomenal! It feels like home! Light and relaxing, like a nice warm cup of tea or a refreshing drink after a long day. I don't think I could grow tired of this tune but I can even imagine someone creating lyrics for the song.

Katherine Winn

Not going to lie I'm fairly disappointed in the first song as it is extremely generic basically YouTube stock sounding music. The 2nd track is not too bad but not at all memorable. Hope to see more enticing music as music in this type of game is much more important than one may first think.

Keosha 6

🥰😍😍🥰💗

Suni85

I really, really like both!!! They both kind of give me "tropical beach spa" vibes, or something like that.. Great job!!!

Naya Perda

Farwell Froggy = pure nostalgia. Reminded me of the end of summer as a kid, playing at sunset in the tall grass... Thank you for this!

Estelle

Sounds so good!!

Sylwia Dras

oh, I absolutely love this!

neae

In love with this.
