The lads pledge to the Phoenix Club and destroy democracy as they cover David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin’s 2010 techbro parable: The Social Network. Topics include Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ iconic score, the polarizing nature of Sorkin’s writing, and what it means to live in a world ruled by Augustus Caesar wannabes like Mark Zuckerberg.

End of this movie is one of the all-time great needle drops, imo.

Myerk Lamb

Your uncle fence is the dumbest and funniest joke of all time lol

BarFly

Oh man I bet Stephen Lang was great in A Few Good Men

Leo Curtis

Shoutout to Brenda Song fr, a certified real one. Also hear me out: I think Aaron Sorkin might be American Stephen Moffat?

Mulloy

I'm listening to this with my finglonger and stoked about the poke representation

BarFly

I say let Harvard have its football and academics. Yale will always be first in gentlemanly club life.

Jordyn Clementi

I can't believe Time named cool Voltaire as the person of the year all the way back in 2006

HollyBroWoo

Imagining the Newsroom taking on the situation in Palestine and I’m rolling my eyes so hard they’re popping out of my skull

Cleo

I don't think you mentioned that Josh was directing a play premiering today? Weird miss tbh

Robert Young

The incorrectly pluralizing "Winklevoss" was a joke which was going around at the time, with people referring to multiple Priuses as "Prii".

Gorbant

At some point Aaron Sorkin said the words "my," "brother," and "Jake". That's practically an endorsement, Josh!

If you don't count their AI stuff (because of its more questionable contribution to humanity, sure), the biggest open source contribution from Facebook is the React application framework, which is our at least was once of the most popular libraries/pieces of softeare for building apps and websites.

Kyle Reesman

Actually a VMI alumni, screw W&L those guys are the worst

Maladapted

Just started listening at 6:25 on release day. Break a leg

Sylvie

Damn, even when it's bleeped hearing the t slur said so angrily hit me like a truck

Speth

Michael and Us are doing a series on the Newsroom rn and are having a lot of fun with it. They’d make great guests if you end up doing a Newsroom ep!

Pineneedles

The thing with cutting your hair like augustus is that you’re awfully close to just looking like caligula.

Ryujin713

The plural is actually "Winkles voss"

Ray of F---ing Sunshine

Something something Reeds Lake pirates something something Gaslight Village. I briefly had the pieces of a joke together but not anymore

John Leavitt

Is it common knowledge that Fincher and Madonna were fucking during their collaboration? cause they got so involved that Fincher decided to pick which one of her singles would be released first and pressed hard for it and it bombed and she dropped him immediately

Christopher Kunst

Which kids didn't build forts out of dangerous junk and hit each other with sticks? That's just the golden bough of male childhood right there.

Elizabeth Power

I should have known this before, but I am very grossed out by the fact that Zuckerberg started Facebook as a thing to rank the hotness of girls. I guess weird guys in college are weird guys in college no matter who they are. Also, stuff like “the shoe was on the other foot- table, which has turned” is fun to say and I love it even though I know no one would ever talk like that. Thanks for the sidebar about production design, I never realized how important it is !

Elizabeth Power

PS – Josh, a friend of mine who lives in New York went to see your play and really, really liked it. She appreciated the authentic casting I live too far away to go see it, so I recommended this podcast and said you talked about what a great time you had directing the play .

I Love Brian Alford's Bible Corner

"We are in the hands of men whose power and wealth have separated them from the reality of daily life and from the imagination. We are right to be afraid." Grace Paley

Victoria Vanderkloet

If yall spent more time in transgirl subreddits you wouldn't think of thigh high as an archaic phrase

Andrew T. Wilson

-s endings are third declension, so plural would be Winklvēs or Winkleva depending on whether you consider them to have a gender.

Sylvie

You speak the truth. We rock them

Thom Coté

I did sound design and original intermission music for my high school's production of The Farnsworth Invention. Proudest moment of my 3-year theatre career :)

Virginia Paine

I hate to disagree with AJ but I have to say there’s a strong possibility I was wearing American Apparel thigh highs while Zuck and Parker were having that conversation on the other side of the country. They were def a thing for while in the late aughts!
