I'd love to see you guys talk about Pathologic 2!

Aramil

On the topic of "text narrative but implemented in another genre", it has been 20+ years since I first played Sid Meyers' Alpha Centauri and I still can't get over the accomplishment it is to have woven such a strong story and deep, multifaceted world- and character- building into, of all things, Civilization.

I tried to go to college, several times, each an increasing level of farce ><. I love the podcast, thank y‘all for doing it!

The Worst of All Possible Worlds

also i misspoke about night is a room; the main character is adopted and ann dowd plays his birth mother, whom he meets up with for the first time since she initially gave him up for adoption

The Worst of All Possible Worlds

also i quoted lcd soundsystem incorrectly, mixing up the line “i was at the first can show in cologne” with “i was the first one playing daft punk to the rock kids.” of all of my errors this is the most grievous, and for this i apologize deeply

All My Maidens

Seconding that josh should try patho 2 again. Unless you don’t like to be stressed out. Half the experience is the anxiety.

Star Trek The Motion Picture is amazing and you should say it

Samuel E McConnell

I mean think about it. How many dirtbag left podcasts have truly explored the intricacies of Star Trek the Motion Picture?

University of Melbourne and I am not ok, thanks for asking.

Kevin McCandless

Cool. Thanks for the answer. But sorry - with all those Whit-related episodes, I somehow got Whit Stillman on the brain.

To Josh’s point about “charity cases” - an ugly phrase for an ugly phenomenon - retroactively something that sticks out to me about Odyssey is how it replicates that dynamic. Poverty, even being on the visibly lower end of the middle class, is uncommon and always an aberration in Odyssey, and so often those characters fall into glurgy patterns of redemption stories where improving their morality and changing their class character are inextricable. To me this clearly mirrors the attitudes and fantasies wealthier congregations tend to harbor towards their lower-class members.

Breathplay

I was the one to recommend Shadow the Hedgehog and I will happily re-up that. When you first boot it up the first sound you hear is a gunshot and the first image you see is a gun

The Worst of All Possible Worlds

yeah! we talked about this a bit in the weird odyssey episode where the barclay family meets people who may or may not be angels while driving through The Bad Part Of Town
