✿ designing a custom qipao ✿ (Patreon)

EXCITING NEWS~ I'll be sharing my custom qipao journey with you all this month~ I decided to create my own qipao made in time to celebrate AAPI Heritage Month in May! I'll be working together with @qipaoya, an online custom qipao shop run by Annie. 

Above are my first six sketches! I decided to go with the first qipao design to pair with my Chinese knot CHERRY earrings. 

The next step has been figuring out the pankou design! Pankou = the fabric button knots that accent the dress. The outline is created with strips of fabric, then finished with other fabric material + filling. 

I thought the pair of leaping rabbits + cherry would make a super cute collar accent! It's super thrilling to have so much possibility at my fingertips in creating this dress. I'm still receiving notes + adding revisions during the pankou design process but thought I'd share my ideas so far!

I also sent in a first pass illustration for the sample fabric and I'm excited to share how it turns out! It's mainly to check how the colors / pixels will show up on the material, which will be an acetate satin texture.
