Happy Friday everybody! Here's a digital sketch I'm currently working on :) Some of you may recognize her, but for those of you who need a hint, she's a character from one of my favorite shows called Stranger Things!

As you can see it's just gray scale right now, but I will be adding color on top. Sometimes I find it easier to work in grays first so I can solidify where I want my shadows and lights to be without getting too complicated with colors right away. When I feel good about shadows, I'll fiddle with Color Balance to adjust the gray tones to warm shades of pinkish red/orange (or a base shade of whatever skin tone I want), and then I'll start layering colors with multiply. Let me know if you'd be interested in a future tutorial on grayscale to color because I'd love to show you guys!

It's also Feature Friday which means it's time for our weekly features!! Drop your username in the comments and I'll be featuring your lovely artwork later today and over the weekend for latecomers!

Happy weekend!! :D I'm excited for our tutorial poll results!

That kind of tutorial would actually be super helpful. I personally struggle with finding the right colors so not having to worry about it at the start would be nice. I’ve tried to do grayscale work and then add color but it always seems to fall flat. 😭 Username is @one3yedneko for the feature! Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️

Your content lately has been so helpful and inspiring! I would love to see a grayscale to color tutorial, I’ve always struggled with it! And my instagram is @artsy.mel , if you could feature my most recent post that would be awesome!☺️

Madie Bryson

Going to color from greyscale is something I’ve ALWAYS struggled with, so I would loveeee a tutorial on that! My colors always seem really washed out when I start with black and white ☹️ @madiebryson and also so excited to see this one finished! 💕

libby

I’ve never tried grayscale before! I normally don’t draw from reference so I would love to be better at shading!!! My username is @libbelz 💙💙

lotusbubble

It can definitely be a struggle to find the right colors at the beginning! They can be distracting. I love doing gray scale first just so I can focus on line work, composition and shadows. I'd have a lot of fun showing you guys that process! ❤️

lotusbubble

I would love to make a tutorial about that!! I'm definitely going to write it down and make it an option for you guys! :)

Pimdee Avihingsanon

Wow really nice drawing! I love to draw in grayscale too. It's very good for practicing. 😊 @little_dchan

lotusbubble

Thanks!! :D And not always actually! I usually do grayscale first when I really want to focus on getting my shadows and lights right for a dramatic piece :)

lotusbubble

yesss same!! I love her character so much 😍 and I'm excited to color her and show her to you guys!

lotusbubble

lotusbubble

I totally get that!! At first, my paintings had that washed out look when I did it too. There's a couple things I do to avoid that issue now and I would love to share it with you guys! ❤️

doodspls
