I love Dead Meat. It’s the reason why i mustered up the coverage to watch Def By Temptation after avoiding it since childhood.

I agree. Here’s a fun fact: The temptress played by Cynthia Bond is an author. She wrote the book Ruby.

I love that it was made for Troma / by Troma (based in New Jersey) but absolutely raised the artistic profile of that studio. They, at one point / in the 70's and early 80's, were working with stars like Sissy Spacek and Kevin Costner and directors like Oliver Stone and Brian De Palma but they hadn't had real success until they started making ultra-gory, sleazy, "something to offend everyone"-style monster and exploitation movies like The Toxic Avenger, Class of Nuke 'em High, Combat Shock, and Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD. The director of Def by Temptation flipped Troma on their head and used their reputation for standing out from the crowd to bring audiences a pre-Jungle Fever (1991) Samuel L. Jackson and put TV-star Kadeem Hardison in an all-black cast horror film with a stylized (super colorful) half-European arthouse sensibility, half-sort of smoky "Bar Noir" atmosphere, a readymade soundtrack, incorporating LGBTQ+ themes, and an almost feminist side to it. The succubus *is* evil but she also targets *mostly* cheaters, sleazebags, "players," guys with aggressive egos, etc. (I stress: mostly.) It's just a shame more people don't know about it. It was like an experiment. Maybe... films like Eve's Bayou and the 2020's Candyman owe just a tiny thanks to Def.

I didn’t know how Troma made a huge impact on horror thanks for enlightening me. Troma is only known for making campy horror movies. James Bond III the director of Def By Temptation talked to Ernest R. Dickerson who did the cinematography for School Daze & other movies about making an all black horror movie. When it comes to 90s black horror movies the first ones that come to mind are Candyman & Tales From The Hood.
