My fanart for My Father Was A Good Man

In 2023, ShortBox Comics Fair was booming. I still think this was the best year for the fair, in my subjective opinion, to my subjective taste. For those unfamiliar, ShortBox Comics Fair is an annual online collection of comics that are published and available only through the month of October. I usually buy a couple comics that stand out to me, and in 2023, there were so many. I spent easily $100+ on comic PDFs that year. But the one title that has stuck with me through the years is My Father Was A Good Man by Adeline Kon.
My Father Was A Good Man is a 30+ page queer horror comic. Obviously yeah we know I love wolves and wolf girl themes, so this was an instant purchase for me. Entwined in the wolf aesthetic, however, are themes of parental abuse and reckoning with it as an adult. Wolf girl is woke. Wolf girl with daddy issues is bespoke.
Kon uses some of the most evocative paneling and pacing for the wolf/trauma dialog, and they really stick the landing with the way this comic ends. Adeline Kon has a debut graphic novel coming out in February 2026. Just Between Us is a sapphic figure skating OGN, and I can’t wait to see the way Kon’s style has changed and evolved. I’ll be looking to see the glimmer of My Father Was A Good Man peeking through.
