Update 7.1.12 (Patreon)
Content
Hope you all are doing well! Version 7.1.12 was pushed out just moments ago! This update brings some UI improvements, Backup and Restore options for configurations and database, plus more!
UI Updates
You'll probably notice pretty quickly that Stacher has some new UI components in the main views: Card, Table, Subscriptions, and Log.
Functionally, everything is the same! These changes are geared toward making the UI/UX a bit cleaner and fun to use.
Here's a look at the new card component!
Similarly, here's a look at the updated table view. The table has an additional new feature to expand rows to see multiple items in the set (if applicable)!
Because the log view is intended to be more of a diagnostic view, the scrollable list on the left has been condensed. This will allow you to see more items at once and quickly see the state of each item in the list.
The footer progress bar has also been updated to be more condensed and more verbose with data. Additionally, when you click the progress bar, you'll see an updated "task manager" view. You can use the search input box or the badges to the right to filter the list down.
The tray window overlay has also been updated to show more than a single running process at a time.
In the subscription view, you'll also find a bit of a makeover. Namely, the filters have been pulled down into the views toolbar (where they should have belonged the entire time).
View In Library
When you use these new components, you'll quickly notice the added "View in Library" buttons.
When you click this button, Stacher will automatically navigate into the library, filter to the item(s) you want to view, and automatically start playing in Stacher's built-in media player.
Obviously, it can be annoying for media to just start playing. So, if you'd preview the "View in Library" button to only filter and show your media so you can drag it into 3rd party applications like Adobe premiere, Davinci Resolve , etc, you can easily disable the auto play in the Library tab of the Settings window!
Backup and Restore
This is something I've been working to get out for a while and I'm excited that it's finally available in version 7.1.12.
In the Settings window, you will find a new tab called "Export/Import".
This tab will let you Export/Backup virtually all of your settings and configurations within Stacher. You can even backup your Stacher Library Database!
To backup configurations and/or subscriptions, use the "Export Configurations..." option. You'll be prompted to select anything you want to include or exclude from your backup.
All of your selections will be condensed into a "Stacher Bundle" file (.stacherbundle) that you can re-import later if you need to restore any of your settings OR if you would like to import your settings onto a new machine.
When you import from a Stacher Bundle, you'll use the "Import Configurations..." button. You'll be prompted with everything that is available in the Stacher Bundle and you can de-select anything you don't want to import.
NOTE: Some settings that are stored in your configurations are File Paths that may not be available on different machines. If you plan on importing your configurations on a new machine, pay careful attention in the Import Configurations prompt. The prompt will alert you of all the file paths found and allow you to quickly change them without having to go through each configuration individually after you import it.
You can also backup and restore your Stacher Database. This is where your library metadata and indexing is stored. It's what allows you to quickly search, tag, filter, etc through your Stacher Library.
Rebuilding this from scratch can be a pain! So it's important to back it up now and then to avoid the headache. Just use the "Back Up Database" and "Restore Database" buttons to do this.
When you Restore a Database, it will overwrite your existing Database with the restored one. It will create a quick backup before it does this in case you need to rollback to the database state before you did the restore.
NOTE: The Stacher Database only contains metadata, notes, bookmarks, and indexing, it does not contain your actual media files. Those are located on your file system and are separate from the database.
Think of the database like a phone book. It knows where all media is located, information about the media, and how to quickly access them via Search criteria, but it doesn't actually contain the files themselves.
Everything else...
Fixed slow/laggy issues when you launch Stacher. Stacher should open much faster now.
Fixed issue with the landing image in the Empty state where the image took some time to load when the app first starts
Fixed issues with data overflow in the library media player view
Fixed spacing in the segmented control of the Library search bar
Added option to empty state view to quickly navigate to the Library
Updated the upgrade informational panels with cards instead of an outdated image/screenshots of Stacher Premium
As always, a complete change log is available at https://changelog.stacher.io/
