Captain Hardcore Quest update 0.7.1 - Fix for Oculus v0.39 issues (also patched versions of 0.6 and 0.5) (Patreon)

Hey everyone, there's a known issue with Quest OS v0.39 that's causing some games to crash on launch. Here's a small update for Captain Hardcore Quest that fixes the issue.

You'll only need it if the game won't launch after updating to v0.39, but it's a good idea to install this anyway to prevent it from breaking when your Quest updates itself in the future.

The install process is slightly different now:

1) Make sure you uninstall any previous versions first

2) There's 2 files you must install. Transfer the .apk file first using Sidequest as with previous versions

3) Once the .apk install completes, transfer the .obb file in the same way. You must do this AFTER the .apk

If the install gets stuck on "checking blacklist" or any other error please make sure you've uninstalled the previous version and there's enough storage space available on your Quest.

Make sure you unzip the files before trying to sideload them.

Hi, it sounds like your antivirus may be quarantining the .apk file. If you re-download the file and disable your antivirus before your open the .zip then it should be there.

Trying to load onto my Quest and I get this error. I install the APK no problem... the OBB however gives me this error... I have even tried multiple versions.. help anyone? Hi, this usually happens when the install does not work properly and sometimes when it does not uninstall a previous version properly. There is a file in the the 0.9 download called "install.bat" that you should run, first extract all of the 0.9 download files, connect your headset to your PC with the link cable, and make sure you are on the link dash in the headset, then run the "install.bat" file, this should remove the old version completely and install the new version.

I had the same issue. Haven’t tried this workaround yet. I had a black screen of death recently and had a thought to CH via side quest and it booted perfectly. Thank you for the update. I was still having issues booting up on the quest after I got black screen issues corrected and my way is not essential of any sort lol. Love your work! Keep ‘em coming.

Can you please provide us a better installing guide? I installed the APK and than moved to the .obb file to as many folders as I thought it could be the one. But whenever I open the game in unknown sources, it just keep stalking in loading screen with that 3 dots. Where excactly must I move the .obb File to? should it be extracted or not?

Hi, installed the latest version as per the latest fix, the app open but i am not able to enter the key. I was able to copy it from the browser but there is no way to paste it. Nothing happens when i click on the Enter key text box. Kindly assist

Anyway to side load this using phone I got bugjaeger, sidequest, and rar all on phone not having any issues with the apk file but can't get the obb file after. Side note I'm pretty dumb/new at all this any help is appreciated thanks!

Finally got this to work by uninstalling some invisible file. 1. clicking the ADB command button at the top of Sidequest. Then click custom command, and enter "ADB uninstall "com.AntiZeroGames.CH". After that, the instructions worked fine.

Does the Quest version come with no "official" scenes or scenarios/game campaign content? I can see environments but scene list is empty until I import user content or make something. Not complaining at all, the game is excellent. More like wondering if my install is corrupted as I installed on device and created directory (using package name) to place obb manually. Game launches normally and behaves normally.

Hi, pre-made scenes are not on the Quest version currently, but you can change the environment be clicking on the green Load/Save icon in the menu and clicking New, which it sounds like you found. It sounds like your install has worked correctly.

Can't get this to work. I've downloaded the whole SideQuest and I'm pretty sure I followed the instructions listed but I just can't get this to work for my Oculus. I hit the install APK button on Sidequest and it acts like it's downloading but then I look in currently installed apps and the files on headset but it's not there. I open the folder and try to click on the instructions but nothing happens. Tried to unzip the folder but I swear my computer already did that. Computers make my head hurt.

Hi, did you follow this installation guide: https://captain-hardcore.com/how-to-sideload-captain-hardcore-on-quest-1-and-2/ You need to install the .apk file and then the .obb file, the .obb file can take a little while to install as it is much larger than the .apk file. If you have followed all of the instructions correctly and still have issues, then it is worth trying a different USB cable and USB port, as these commonly cause problems. If you have further issues then feel free to direct message me.

Keep in mind in your oculus it won't show the app in the default view. Go to the top right corner and click on what I believe says "unrecognized apps" and it will be there. Anti Zero should put that in the installation guide

Pre-made scenes are not on the Quest version currently, but you can change the environment be clicking on the green Load/Save icon in the menu and clicking New. People do share scenes they have created and saved in the discord, so it might be worth checking that out..

Did you try one of the download mirrors? If so then maybe check your network connection and your firewall.

It is in the zip file you download, if it does not appear to be in there then it might be getting removed by your antivirus.

I can't extract the OBB file from the compressed folder. Just fails part way through, also tried using 7ZIP and that didn't work. Have downloaded a couple times from different mirrors and I have the same issue

Have you checked that your antivirus is not blocking it? It might be worth disabling it while you extract it.

I've tried disabling it and still have the same issue. Also tried importing the whole zipped folder onto the quest and extracting with a native file manager, still the same issue.

Hi! I just downloaded the files (no pc, just an android phone and the oculus quest 2) but nothing seems to work. Ive tried bugjaeger, installing the files directly from the browser and the opening them in cx file explorer, but nothing is working. Im just confused on how to get this to run lol

2026-09-05 14:00 I just played around with the oculus build. Installation is pretty annoying, took a few hours to figure out how to side load it, took a few restarts on the headset. But once it was up and running - holly hell, it's way better than I was expecting. I didn't know the quest 2 was capable of running this level of graphics and smoothly. Well done, my man! Haven't even tried the pcvr version and I'm already very impressed.

how did you get yours to start running? ive got it side loaded but it wont open on my oculus, as soon as i click it it closes and opens the explore thing.

Hi, the .obb file takes quite a bit longer than the .apk as it contains most of the game content, sometimes it may take a long time to be checked against the blacklist. If it takes hours then the SideQuest servers could be very busy, or you might have a problem with your connection with your PC. Try different USB cables and Ports in that case.

Hi, it sounds like you might be just importing the .zip file. You need to use a program like 7zip and unpack the files on your phone first if using bugjaeger. Make sure you then sideload the .apk file first, and then the .obb. Make sure you have removed all previous versions of the game you tried to install on the Quest first. hey is there a tutorial for the quest 2 version in terms of playing the game? there's so many options and settings and I think I saw a guy enabled passthrough which I don't know how to do in game. Be great to play the game with all the features as besides just loading and making my own model im not sure what else to do. is there a place where we can download skins created by other creators as well? thanks!

The Meta browser won't launch after pressing the button to get access to the key, it just stays on a black loading screen, and kept loading for 10 minutes before crashing.

Now i have not got to the point where i need it yet. I just was able to get the zip file downloaded that had both the .apk & .obb files in it and unzipped on my phone so i still have to install in on my quest but thats has to wait until i get home

Hi, you get the key from clicking on the "Log in with Patreon" button in the game, that will open a browser to allow you to log in and retrieve your key.
