Developer Update: July 2026 (Patreon)

It's been a while since we've had one of these developer updates, but I wanted to stop by for a quick check-in on what's been happening these past few months.

Site Downtime

First I really appreciate everyone for their patience during the outages earlier this month, the unregulated traffic hammering the site has been a whirlwind to keep up with. One of the perks of leaving my old job behind was to escape the 24/7 oncall shifts, so it's my personal vendetta this stays under control. It'll always be an ongoing battle keeping up with the latest waves but I'm hoping the more walls I can construct will only make it too expensive to bother.

We have been at a good level for about a week now so let's hope that only continues!

A Minor Patch

Today I've released 1.17.5, a small patch of bug fixes around lists, editions, and search. The biggest change will be that search now incorporates alternate game names when it's querying for results. That means GTA 5, FF7, and DS3 are all valid and will return correctly.

Something New

Otherwise I've been quiet these past few months hard at work on a couple of projects. One being the next big thing for Backloggd, which will need a little more work before I want to say more.The other project can be seen below:

This is a very early look at the Library page, a place to filter and display all your library entries in a grouped view. I've mainly been getting the functionality to work seamlessly so that when you update the group filter it replaces in page without a refresh. That's why the UI is very barebones right now. Stay tuned for more developments!

You can also look forward to the 2008 Replay Event coming this August! I haven't picked the exact date yet, but I'll reveal more soon over socials.

What's been happening?

To round things off, here's a recap of all the changes that went live since the last update but weren't significant enough for a version change:

Editions have been expanded to any game that have a version parent declared on IGDB

Before it was just main games and bundles, but now anything considered a version will become an edition!

Bundles are still being combined but less than 100 left to merge (all the big ones)

Editions shouldn't appear in any other "Related games" sections when viewing a game's page

Fixed pages getting "scroll locked" after removing a list using the quick list manage modal

Email changes now have typo validation, hopefully this leads to less lost accounts!

I'm in the process of changing and trialing with different ad networks, not planning on adding more ads just swapping out the ones that are already there.
