Tape Echo 2 is out! (Patreon)
Content
Tape Echo 2 is a three-head tape delay and spring reverb.
I was going to release this on Monday, but I still wasn't happy with the sound of the spring reverb. I ended up changing it from a hybrid FDN/waveguide to a bidirectional waveguide and it finally hit the sweet spot to sound like that classic spring 'boing' I was chasing. I might add that reverb engine to Duskverb down the road too. The current spring there is OK, but this one sounds more authentic.
Highlights
Twelve head and spring routings, from one head to all three plus the spring tank
Three tape conditions, New, Used, and Old, driving bandwidth loss, noise, level wear, transport drift, and an audible splice
Spring reverb tank with three widely spaced springs whose beating drives the tank's movement.
Record Input switching mutes the tape feed while the spring stays live, for dub throws and reverb-only work
Tempo Sync across eleven note detents, with per-head readouts that carry the reference unit's dotted, triplet, and out-of-range blink behavior
A note longer than the tape can physically carry is held at the motor's limit rather than transposed down, exactly as the hardware does
Independent Echo Level, Reverb Level, Echo Pan, and Reverb Pan
Record-path VU meter and peak lamp, so you can watch the loop building before you hear it run away
13 factory presets, resizable interface, full automation
