I’ll try and make this short because I don’t want to write a novel. This month was a bit rough, I know that mental health isn’t a straight line when you are getting better (which I am, I am genuinely getting so much better) but I wasn’t able to accomplish most of the goals I had set for myself this month and that makes me insanely angry and frustrated. I will sound like a broken record but this page is one of my biggest joys in life, so is interacting with you guys and making you laugh and sadly I am still failing here. At least in my opinion.

I’m writing this to hold myself accountable and because I’m really scared to appear like I don’t care about this. I don’t really have friends or people I know that can relate to what I do so updating you all does help and I am sorry if this is a bit boring to read. I really want to improve or actually, I think, just go back to how I was and I cannot thank you enough for supporting me here.

I think the main things I need to improve (again writing this down to hold myself accountable) are the regularity of my posting and the things I am drawing. My mind is going in all directions lately and it shows I feel. I start a million things with tons of ideas and it goes downhill from there because I can’t figure out what to finish first. This is the most frustrating part for me, after such a long art block the ideas are back but it’s like I forgot how to put pen to paper. If anyone has a little adhd trick for organizing omg I am all ears, but yes.

Again I want to apologize for how disjointed I feel my pages has been lately and I promise that I am actively working on focusing myself. This is already longer than I wanted, but thank you and I hope you will keep enjoying my content and the page ❤️

Aww, friend. Love you being accountable but don’t be too hard on yourself! There isn’t a single one of us who doesn’t understand what you’re going through. The people that are here are here because they enjoy you and your art and connecting to you on a deeper level like this! You’re doing great and it’s really admirable that you continue to try, even when things get hard. Keep doing you! You’re doing great and I love seeing the things you create!

If I can't figure our what to finish I put it in a numbered list and then choose a random number and work on that one! I try to put off the favorite ones so that way I can work towards them and have a goal(like, I have to finish 3 drawings before going back to the one I REALLY want to do)

As long as you’re healthy we couldn’t care less about how much you post. Take care of yourself and know we love and support you 🩷🩷

As both a member of the ADHD club and an artist, you're being really hard on yourself and I totally understand holding yourself to a high standard but try to check in with yourself that it's not an impossible standard. Lowering my own expectations for myself from perfectionism has helped me a lot with similar problems that you're having. As for helpful tricks for organization, sticky notes are my best friend. And if you eventually want to upgrade more, adding a cork board in your work area to tack up the sticky notes full of plans or even random ideas in a more fashionable order helps too. Though I noticed a huge difference in my productivity and idea organization when I started using sticky notes last year for my bachelor degree thesis gallery exhibition. From planning the artworks to ideas on presentation or suggestions after critique; keeping short manageable ideas and comments in close reach at all times was great. I hope you feel better soon and as always be kind and patient with yourself!♥️

Take all the time you need for yourself. Your art has inspired and helped me laugh through my bad mental health days more than I can count!

I set myself a rule when I am overwhelmed with all the things. Just do 10 minutes. I have so many things on the go (sewing, spring cleaning, cosplays, writing challenges, gardening, etc), and just looking at it is cooking my brain. So I choose a task at random and just do it for 10min. I dont set a timer, but I note the time i start. At the end of 10min I can either keep going if im enjoying myself, or I can go make a cuppa for a reward. My biggest problem is starting. It makes it feel like a smaller task, because I get so overwhelmed when there are more than 3 steps to any project, and that's leads me to procrastinate instead. I realise that drawing is very different from my list of things, but I hope it helps in a small way. Massive hugs, honey. You are also your harshest critic, you are achieving more than you think you are, I promise. Xx

Please don’t feel like you’re being pressured to push out art at anyone’s request. You’re a human being, not a machine, & we are all very aware of life’s ups and downs. Just take all the time you need & approach art at your own pace. We’ll be waiting as patiently as you need us to be. Focus on yourself & take things one step at a time ❤️

queen we're all here because we like what you're doing and want more of it. we'll be satisfied no matter what we get as long as it comes from your hands. ik the frustration that comes with not achieving personal goals, but please don't forget that when something is done 80%, that's still 80% of the whole thing. i think i'm starting not to really make sense anymore, but just know that we are not picky eaters when it comes to your art and we'll eat it all up. so please don't add the additional pressure on yourself.

As someone who struggles with the same stuff and also downplays my achievements, I get it!! It's frustrating and annoying and those are completely valid feelings! When I was digging myself out of burnout, I did a lot of studies/sketches of things I saw every day & stuff I found visually interesting and it took awhile before I was completely comfortable drawing. Also, I get excited whenever you post, especially when it's from shows I don't know as much about because it allows me to explore new media I wouldn't before ♥️

Jess, I think you may be underestimating the community you’ve built here. And I understand how it’s easy to feel uncertain about this all, especially because the internet is a terribly fickle place and most people don’t care enough to stick around when things change. But I think the comments speak for themselves, this isn’t transactional. People are here because they like /you/. It just so happens you also are an incredible artist and people like that too. You’re right, achieving a balanced mental health isn’t linear and it’s so easy to beat ourselves up when things begin to slide. But I hope you try to remember that people are here because they care about you. Not because they want something from you. They’re here to laugh and lust (and sometimes feel angst) and enjoy all the same things you do. You have nothing to apologize for. I truly truly hope that you continue to be kind to yourself, you deserve kindness. 💖

Late to the party, but I totally understand! Only discovered at the end of last year I have ADHD, the struggle is real! Potential tips: Use a whiteboard/fridge/magnetic surface on which you can organise things you want to do in different categories: Time sensitive & important, not time sensitive but important, time sensitive but not important, and not time sensitive and not important. You can use sticky notes, magnets, whatever works for you. Also if you’re like me you probably consistently overestimate how much free/unallocated time you have left over. I made an excel sheet thingy & time blockified version of my avarage week and it really helps give me perspective in how much time I actually have to spend. Also it’s super helpful to add in margin for error. It is nice to have at least a couple minutes error margin to catch spillover tasks or unexpected messages between tasks.
