Raised in a small seaside Norman village, Victor comes from a middle-class family. Thanks to his social class, he studied Literature at a nearby university, nearly graduating. However, just before finishing his studies, World War II breaks out, derailing his and his family’s plans. He quickly enlists in anticipation of the German advance, but Northern France falls. He narrowly escapes capture and begins a journey through England, hoping to find a ship bound for America. To survive, he starts working with the English underworld, with whom he collaborates for several years, learning English in the process. At the first opportunity, he boards a ship and, upon arriving overseas - now disillusioned and accustomed to criminal life - he immediately connects with the local mobsters.
He has always known he was gay. During his time in the French army, he falls deeply in love with a fellow soldier who returns his affection. The two share a passionate and tormented relationship amid the horrors of war. However, when escape seems possible, his lover chooses to deny his orientation and return to his wife and family. This event leaves a lasting mark on Victor, who decides never to emotionally attach himself to others again.
Victor is a traumatized man who has chosen to rely on violence as his foundation, aware of his talent for brute force, acquired mainly during battle and through years of proximity to organized English crime. The adrenaline of extreme situations makes him feel alive, as does the ability to control others. He has always been manipulative - even before the war - well aware of his charm and appearance. He is also very clever, intelligent, cultured, and physically fit, all traits that quickly make him one of the most effective enforcers in the Italian-American mafia. His duties mainly include collecting protection money, disposing of inconvenient individuals, escorting the boss or other key figures, and often assisting Vince. Constantly seeking intense sensations, the prospect of climbing the mafia ranks greatly appeals to him. At the time of his meeting with Vince, he is 33 years old.
