Just finished watching it myself- The concept is giving me big chainsaw man vibes with a hint of AOT. Excited to see how it goes though since I like this Kafkas style of MC more!

As a manga reader for Kaiju no.8, I am extremely excited for the rest of the season. I hope you stick with it - it's a really fun story, and the action, animation, and music should only get better as it goes. :~)

love the score in this, pretty unique yet fitting. Also I wouldn't even call that fanservice at the end. It was natural and didn't really call attention to itself.

There is definitely some comedic and light hearted moments throughout, but trust me it gets pretty damn serious a lot of the time.

as someone who read the manga when it first dropped, I loved a lot of the beginning arcs....until it lost itself in some ways and I got bored. but the first season would definitely be worth watching!

I say watch the whole season unless you end up disliking it. I read maybe 50 chapters (only stopped because I’m not a big manga reader) and it reminds me of a more lighthearted AoT season 1. Probably best anime of the season until Mushoku Tensei’s school arc ends lmao.

IG studios actually helped wit studio do animate attack on titan so it's kinda understandle that this reminds you of that

basically, what made it fun and refreshing at first just disappears. I've been in the anime/manga community since I was 7, (35 this year) so it's easy for me to get bored with stuff that lets itself drift in more predictable ways, sadly.

I don't know what you mean when you don't want anime getting "americanized" or "westernized" when anime has been mixed into American or western culture for many years. Its been a thing for a long time where anime in general also takes into account things from America or the western part of the world whether its the English slang or American types of music or our culture. Anime has never been just simply "Japan". Anime has taken a lot from American culture and entertainment just like American stuff has gotten a lot and adapts a lot of Japanese culture. So anime was "americanized" long before you ever showed up to anime. This was even obvious back in the early 2000s when I was watching anime as a kid.

Its up to Japan and the way the people running things in the studio decide whether they want an American song for the anime or not. A lot of Japanese people see Americans as great people and think highly of things like the English language and what America is. Even if America is shitty as all hell right now and we know that as Americans more than anyone the Japanese people still hold America in high regard just as we should hold Japan and their people in high regard. Its a give and take and mix and mash type of thing. We wouldn't have had MHA if the author wasn't in love with our culture.

I really like Reno Ichikawa. Honestly, I bet if he didn't meet Kafka, he prolly would've been that edgy character like Sasuke but since he met Kafka he lightened up a lot. This first season will seem generic but it seems good so far.

Also the show kinda subverts expectations/stereotypes a bit. Kafka isn't a high schooler or college student. He's a 30 year old man and Mina isn't high school either. She's 27 years old! The plot may seem a little generic but after season 1 it shouldn't really be. And characters are likeable.

everybody asking you to react to peak series and then we got this mid out of nowhere, I would rather see one of the top poll animes show up outside of the normal reactions than random stuff.

First impression wise, I'd say I feel similar to you, where it seems to be a solid anime. Not something that'll break the mold with storytelling or animation, but it'll likely be pretty solid all the way through. I like when action anime has a bit of comedic moments tossed throughout, so I don't mind it much right now. Though I do hope to see a bit more seriousness throughout the series. Seeing as I hadn't done any prior research or have any expectations, I'll def give the anime a shot. I'm sure it'll be an enjoyable watch regardless, so even if it's not top of the line, I'd say at least give it the 3-4 episodes to see how it progresses. After all, some big Kaiju battles are always fun.

I'm a huge fan of the manga, but this opening episode for the anime is weak sauce. Like kaiju #8 did take some time at the beginning to catch its stride and i hope the anime does the same but damn was that hard to watch as a fan.

Honestly, I am highly disagree about the ending. I didn't know It's Onerepublic and I was really surprised. That was so cool 🔥🔥 Idk was I just in a good mood or something but for me first episode is a solid 9/10

I literally never heard of this anime before, and I watch anime about 8hrs a day. So I wouldn't say it's that anticipated. Also super mid, not like I'm really outraged or anything, just saying I'd rather see one of the anime people actually want him to watch than some mid tier stuff. Also solo leveling is no mid, you out your mind. I've seen way to much anime, solo leveling is like a solid 8-9 so far. Mid is like the 57th isekai anime of the season.

Now in my 30s myself, my life not what I wish of it, the opening premise of this show is SUPER relatable!!! Wish more popular big shounen had older MCs honestly. Kids can still relate if there's action to be had even with older characters.

I have read it, I'm completely up to date. Would you like me to prove it by throwing out spoilers my guy? I wont because id hate to do that to someone else. But you can't argue that in comparison to other opening episodes this one is a weak open. I think the show has a good chance of fixing that for me with this next episode.

And I'm saying that a slow start doesn't suit anime especially not with a first episode that is supposed to function as a hook to get you to WANT to watch the rest. Let's not have any of that "after the first 850 episodes it will get good" behavior. That's why I think that once we get into the exam it will get better, because that's when the story starts all of this was world filler which is cool, only when what's around it is good and as a first episode it had nothing around it
