One of my favourites “conflict”/everything goes to show!t episodes. I have been in love with the OST since I first watched this. Yasuharu Takanashi is wonderfully talented. On Spotify they have all OSTs, LoFi covers, some remixes for Senya (Itachi’s Theme) and the Akatsuki theme, trap remixes (just instrumental pieces with some lines of the dialogue overlayed here and there.) I’m in one of my state’s choirs and how I WISH we could cover some of the pieces like Madara’s theme or the Akatsuki theme. 😮‍💨

The cinematography used here (I’ll call it that, I know it’s animation but it applies) is gorgeous. The use of themes of birth and destruction, horror and beauty, the music, the slow build up in all of these things. Then it’s like you have a stop of that buildup and the beat drops out, instrumentation rips to a minimum and the vocals are left (very reminiscent of sacred music.) this applies, in analogy, to all else. It’s almost as if time suddenly dilates…and this does occur in all these episodes and truly, all epic battles in the series. They make sure you know x amount of time passed. They get down to the SECONDS and by the next episode they may still be 2 seconds away from whatever they’re counting down to.

Also, it may sound like a cliche but this is very reminiscent of the a bomb drop on Hiroshima. A. The power of a divine being unleashed (power of nature unleashed) B. The way the mechanism was set, Little Boy would be detonated in the air. It hung in the air as if it were defying gravity (it was more like air resistance but w/e) and at 16 miles above the air it blew up in a dazzling light. It actually WAS brighter than the very sun for an instant that stretched on forever. (Seriously, this imagery is very impactful.) The village is shown in the pre-attack and then the post eventually. This only adds to that contrast that slams the act all the more. The repeat use of the phrase that the attack is unforgivable is a common thought many who experience such horrors think. But on the other side….Konoha is part of the machine that created Pein (the way they Romanize it. Jp. For pain is Itami.) …I’ll hush now.

Yes! Also, how we keep wanting things to happen but they purposely eff with time in these eps. It’s not “real time” (ie one min in the series = 1. In for us) . I think it gets to the point where 1 second stretches out for a minute. This is on purpose. Our brain does something like this when in full adrenaline survival mode. You’ve heard people say “it was like time slowed down or stood still”? Yeah, the sudden need to compute multiple things SUPER fast or die makes it seem like others things outside a small area are going at a snail’s pace. So many of the battle scenes are going CRAZY fast XD

I also adore this moment. Dry well written in . The gravitas was amazing. I love the manga and anime alike in this case. This is the type of scene you can’t get across in manga. You need that motion, action of it all happening in front of you…seeing it etc.

One of the littest entrances. Naruto pulled up with the new drip as Jiraiya theme was playing. 🔥 And the way he one shotted one of the pains like it was nothing and then the imagery of Jiraiya and Minato alongside Naruto. I get chills every time. Glad Nick has witnessed the Pain arc, one of greatest arcs in anime along with Chimera ant and Soul society. Plus Nick is almost at Marineford arc so that's lit too

And then this slightly goes downhill from here, but then re-peak again in the great ninja war, but I don't think it was as high as this imo. Then again, I was watching it weekly, so the momentum is gone because of filler, many filler episodes

People who say Naruto peaks here are so wrong. It's like they forget the Madara fight, the Kakashi fight, the Guy fight, like, this is for sure one of the greatest but it's not the last hype arc.

I kinda agree but those moments are the peaks of that main arc/saga to conclude the series. Overall the series after the Pain Arc throws all the Sasuke retrieval arc team members to the sidelines, basically any character that isn't a Kage or an Uchiha felt like a "filler" character due to the lack of importance they held to the story. I would've let all that slide but the BS defeat of who was supposed to be the final villain was too much for me to defend the rest of the series being as peak. The series does peak just as many times after the Pain Arc, but the poor writing of The *** Arc Saga just stops it from having the same level of peak as OG Naruto and before post Pain Arc happened. From stupid plotpoints to many unanswered questions, it just felt like Kishimoto was throwing in every character he created in his series into one arc creating terrible pacing, after The Pain Arc it should've been two completely separate main arcs to properly digest and pace scenes instead of panning from each character fighting on the battlefield for 30 sec each and then the ep is over.

On an emotional or from a writing perspective Pain Arc clears TWBY, but if we talking about the anime's then TYBW washes Pain Arc no question, Bleach's insane animation with great storyboarding with ost's just as good as Naruto and some slightly even better. It isn't just as black and white as you think. Plus they adding a lot more new scenes to TYBW that weren't in the manga, creating a properly finished series that doesn't feel rushed.
