I’ve never noticed until now, after the death scene when that one soldier told the orange hair Marcel to not be a scum like the republic, he then immediately acts like a scum like the republic by telling shin to ‘leave the battle’, ‘we don’t force poor children to fight’. Its exactly the same as what the president told shin and the other 4 previously where Frederica especially said sth like it’s disrespectful that they’re putting their own perspective onto the 86 and not actually being considerate for them. And then the sawano piano just spices up that uncomfortable feeling, a feeling like 86s are still a different ’species’ to others. Man the directing of this show really makes every frame have their own symbolism and meaning.

I know what you mean, I just thought of there was a second layer of meaning with that scene, while I was thinking back to the conversation that happened in episode 13’s reaction from nick around 17:45-19:20. Where Frederica end up saying to the president ‘are you trying to lock them up in a cage of pity’.
