To explain, Yes this Movie is cannon and happends after Dragon Ball Super anime. The next movie would be Dragon Ball Super: Superheroes, but it's 3d so you may not like it, I personally loved it. And the action is great there. And Yes, Broly returns, he appears for a moment in Superheroes and even appears in the main story in the DBS manga.

If you don't feel like going through all of dragon ball, you can try the game Dragon ball Z Kakarot since it basically condenses the main scenes into one game while looking visually stunning! Would definitely recommend watching the OG dragon ball though at least!

If you DO watch up to DBZ, watch DBZ KAI. Kai has almost no filler compared to the original release, and has significantly higher production value, including better english dub. DBZ fans do NOT recommend this, but keep in mind, DBZ original is 276 episodes, DBZ Kai is about 151 or 152.

DBZ fan for 33 years here: I absolutely DO recommend watching DBZ Kai. The original uncut version is such a slog, when it takes like 8 episodes for a 5 minute planet destruction, yeah I would say its way too drawn out. AND, I know its unheard of for American DBZ fans, but please oh god I hope he doesn't watch the DUB. Ugh I'm so tired of this shit. Here we have an anime fan that watched 99% of his anime in original Japanese, but for Dragon Ball the American fans want him to watch the English dub just because THEY are nostalgic for that garbage? No, let Nick watch anime the way its intended just like he watches all other anime, heck I'd dare say it honors Akira Toriyama more to watch it how Toriyama wants it, in his native tongue.

Broly was initially the most popular vilain from Dragon Ball Z movies. his first apparition was in movie 8 in 1993. It is praised as one of the best Dragon Ball movies from Z era. He returned in movies 10 and 11 in 1994 but they weren't that good. Although not being canon (none of DBZ movies were), Broly became an icon. One of the most popular vilains along with Freezer and Cell. That is why DBS writers canonized him recently rewriting his story (and Goku's father that was first pictured in two non canon OVA's). This new canon story is really different from the ones we know for Broly, Bardock, Paragus etc but it's a really clever rewriting. You should check the Z Broly movie that is legendary and why not Bardock's original OVAs that are my favorites. Also Gogeta's first non canon apparition is in movie 12 of DBZ (1995). it's called DBZ : Fusions. The attacks (like the rainbow orb) the dialogues and the two defective fusions are a reference to this movie that is really good too.

I agree that dub is garbage. I watched in french. I really feel nostalgic about these voices and if I had a child I would want him to watch in french dub at an early age. But sub is objectively better and now I would watch db in sub like every other anime. But DBZ is better than DBZ kai imo. db animation is really great for its time period and it has so much soul. Also there aren't so many fillers and even tough they are great fillers

This imo is probably one of if not the best anime movies out there. For another good dragon ball movie watch Battle Of Gods. If you want a dragon ball movie with very interesting animation, watch Super Hero. Also, The voice actor for Broly in this movie was the original from the non canon movies in the early 2000s, and the voice actor for EDWARD ELRIC, Vic Mignogna. Due to unproven allegations he was shunned from any voice acting roles, and in new games, and future dragon ball content, Broly is voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch, who is non other than dub Ichigo Kurosaki.

OG dragon ball is great I love it just as much as any other dragontard but we gotta remember who we are asking to watch. Nicks main reasoning for not watching being that it’s too long. Meanwhile The biggest justification for him to watch would be the interest/views it brings Patreon. OG dragon ball can’t even touch Z in that aspect. I never watched Dragonball before I saw this movie in the cinema. My friends invited me and I still loved it. After that I watched the entire show from the original Dragon Ball all the way to super! Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z are very dated now and slow paced but I still enjoyed them. I feel like you can still enjoy Dragon Ball Super without watching the earlier ones. Super has similar animation and pacing to this movie I'd recommend it. Theres a few characters in it you didn't meet in this movie but this movie basically built the world for you already.

Sick reaction as always, I'm glad you enjoyed this. And yes the combination of 2d and CGI looks good when balanced this is one of the best animated movies i've watched. But the next dragon ball movie that came out after broly was done as full on CGI and it looks like total garbage. As a huge and very long time fan of DB that latest movie disappointed me and left me angry, they should've never even made it.

If you ever want to get into Dragon ball world i would suggest watching Kai version, it shorter and has no fillers either that or DBZ Abridged, which is a fan made parody of 80% of DBZ series within 60 episodes or so. You would love it maybe not first few episodes but it get so much better and funnier, I watched DBZA like 20 times and it never gets old.

Me personally, I watched Z before OG, then went back to OG. 3 episodes into OG Dragonball, left it and NEVER watched it again. Z had what I wanted from an anime, OG Dragonball for me just did NOT have that. It was WAY too goofy and a slog for my tastes!!!

And consider watching dragon ball, dragon ball z Kai which is a shorter version without filler, and dragon ball super and daima to get ready for the banger The Dragon Ball Super Season 2. Yes I am long time fan, been watching DB sine i was like 9-10yo now im 28. And for the record i did suggest DBZ Kai as well cuz he said he doesn't plan on getting into DB cuz mostly cuz it's long. and both kai and DBZA are short without fillers and can still get you to understand whats goin on. I watched so many reactions of DBZA and people really loved it more over original Z. And the reason i didn't mention OG DB is cuz no one new to dragon ball these days is gonna want to watch OG DB first simply cuz it's so old. Every one will first watch Z and if they like it, they'd be like, oh okay i want to give OG a go now. I'm subbed to like 5-6 ppl on patron who watched dragon ball, and no one wanted to start with OG. Also Super hero is trash for me simply cuz of animation, characters over all and facial/emotion expressions were so weird and so of in general. In normal 2D you can actually feel and see characters anger, happiness, sadness and what not. In Super hero there was nothing similar to that so I didn't like it one bit. and as far as i saw in all the DB community groups fans agree with it and says it should've never existed or be made as CGI

Unpopular opinion, but I actually liked Dragonball better than DBZ! All the secondary characters felt like they carried more weight and it felt more lighthearted and fun. DBZ just felt like if you weren’t a Saiyan or an alien you were just cannon fodder while Goku took 30 episodes to get to the fight and save the day
