That “Yooooooooooooooo……….Yaw” which signifies the start of a Japanese theatrical play is immensely addictive and satisfying, send help as I can’t stop playing it. Anyways, Reikaku = Spirit Sense And the ‘Dharma Doll Fell Down/Bodhidharma Falls Down’ that Lilie Barro recognized as ‘chocolate ingles’ from Spain are both similar, if not identical to Red-Light, Green-Light as a children’s game, which is the gist of Shunsui’s Shikai abilities and like all Bankais, his is the Adult/Inverse version of that concept. The Theatrical Bankai: KatenKyōkotsu Karamatsu Shinjū (Bones of Heavenly Blooming Madness: Withering Pine Lovers' Suicide/ Flower Crazed Heaven Bone Spirit Withered Pine Love Suicide) To release, Shunsui holds his Shikai out in front of him with the blades pointing down, which prompts several black tendrils to extend out from him like shadows (resembling ink-drawn pine branches) while his Zanpakutō Spirit, Katen or ‘Ohana’ manifests behind him who was revealed along with most other Zanpakutō Spirits in the anime canon Zanpakutō Rebellion arc (Eps 230 - 265) as the best in anime. A vast area around Shunsui is subsequently overcast by an aura that alters the perception of those it reaches, making their surroundings appear ‘gloomy, desolate, and full of despair’ while inducing chills, and making the sky appear as if covered in eerie yellow squares, like the paneling of a theater stage, and much like Yamamoto’s Bankai with its 4 directional phases, Shunsui’s is divided into 4 acts of an adult tragic play. Act 1: ‘Hesitance and Apportionment of Wounds’ - A man hits a woman, he feels great shame as if the wounds he inflicted he can also feel them, and it becomes real damage, from mental to physical. In context, Any wounds that Shunsui or his opponent inflict on each other will emerge on their body as well, shareing the pain. Act 2: ‘The Pillow of Shame’ - The man starts feeling even worse for what he did and develops a sickness cause of this great shame. In context, black spots appear all over the body of Shunsui's opponent, causing them to bleed profusely. Act 3: ‘The Severing Abyss’ - As a way to atone the man drops into an endless ocean hoping to drown and the woman also drowns with him because she pities him. However, the man becomes a coward, starting to swim up to the surface abandoning his promise to drown along with the woman. In context, Shunsui and his opponent are engulfed in a massive, inescapable body of water, which both are meant to remain in until one of them runs out of Reiatsu and drowns. Final Act: ‘Thread-Cutting Scissors upon a Blood-Streaked Throat’ - As a result of all this, the woman wanting to get rid of the man's regret and cowardness, cuts his throat. In context, After sheathing his swords, Shunsui winds a white thread around his opponent's throat multiple times before pulling it out, leaving a deep cut in their throat that expands before blowing up their head. As for Lilie Barro’s transformation, it’s his Vollständig/Voll Stern Dich: ‘Ziliel’ (Judgment of God) which is based on the biblically accurate Seraphim angels since he’s the 1st Quincy to be granted a Schrift by Yhwach as the ‘closest to God’ and has power over the ethereal light itself.

While this was the highest rated Ep of the part and possibly of the whole arc thus far, the next one is the best as far as animation and execution is concerned and honestly probably my favorite as well.

I know Nick loves to watch Bleach but many times I wonder is it because of the animation and the hype and views it gives him? I don’t think he even realised Shunsui hasn’t revealed his Bankai. And he really does not make the effort to understand the power system and the lore. He talks during important dialogue instead of focusing on it. I know he loves Bleach, but the question is why? He is obviously not into it as much as a real fan is.

Yeah so shunsuis bankai is similar to Shinjis where it has an area of effect. Anyone in a certain range is subject to the effects of it hence why he said he hopes Nanao doesn’t get caught up in it. Also he has only been close to using it one other time in the series, during his fight against Starrk and Jushiro stopped him because he would’ve caught most of the captains and lieutenants in it.

Shunsui also tells a story with his Bankai if you’re interested. Katen Kyōkotsu: Karamatsu Shinjū (Bones of Heavenly Blooming Madness: Withering Pine Lovers' Suicide) Shunsui changes his opponent's perception of the battlefield, making them feel depressed Ichidanme: Tameraikizu no Wakachiai, any wound inflicted on the other combatant is also dealt to the attacker Nidanme: Zanki no Shitone, black spots appear on the opponent's body as they bleed from them Sandanme: Dangyo no Fuchi, both Shunsui and his opponent get submerged in water until one of them runs out of Reiatsu and drowns Shime no Dan: Itokiribasami Chizome no Nodobue, Shunsui sheathes his swords and a white thread wraps around his opponent's neck and blows it up

Lille Barro's ability of "Intangibility" was hinted at when he fought Oetsu, If you recall Oetsu at one point attempted to slash him yet the blade went through. [As an aside, the battle between the 0 Squad and the Schutzstaffel gave at least 1 hint at each member's ability, so for those interested you can go back and watch that battle and see how they did it] - Many fans have mixed feelings on Lille's Volstanding look, however, I think it's very fitting when you understand what Kubo is going for. Quincy obviously have biblical influence, Lille upon his transformation gains 4 pairs of wings, meaning in regards to the bible he'd be a Seraphim (Angels with 8 Wings) [Seraphim angels are primarily responsible for constantly praising and worshipping God, specifically by repeatedly proclaiming "Holy, Holy, Holy" while circling around the throne of God, signifying their intense devotion to God's holiness; their main function is to glorify God through their unceasing worship and remind others of God's sacred nature.] We finally see why Shunsui couldn't use his Bankai when he fought Starrk. Those within the area would have been pulled into it and it would have killed several of his allies. I feel it's a very fitting Bankai in that it somewhat mimics the dangerous aspects of Yama's who also couldn't use his Bankai however he pleased. (Some lines are removed that better express what Shunsui Bankai feels like, it seemingly instills negative emotions conjuring a sense of darkness, dread, and despair. It's chilling and makes even the most stubborn characters uncomfortable) Shunsui's personality often switches swiftly between playful to serious. I believe his Shikai and Bankai represent this well. His Shikai forces people to "Play" children's games, while his Bankai forces you to take part in a Kabuki "Play". (I feel Shunsui as a character somewhat embodies this, human life is a play, a play in which we are often forced to act, forced to face conflicts no matter what we wish. We'd love to have life be more relaxed and unserious like games, but we know that when the games are done we have to return to reality.)

Love these reactions but I really wish he'd pay more attention tbh He's said he doesn't completely understand Bleachs power system before but it's honestly not hard or complicated. Sure if you want to understand the series completely you gotta delve deeper into it with how Kubo writes, Nick understands that too as he's mentioned it multiple times but the power system? It's not complicated honestly, just pay attention and don't talk over dialogue. Like he'll literally talk over dialogue and just won't rewind to see what he didn't read or he'll outright look elsewhere while the episode is playing and he misses stuff. I don't know if it's because he thinks he won't understand what's being said at the moment but if that's it I wish he'd give himself more credit lol literally just rewind once or twice and you'll understand. Anyway that's enough yapping lol

Ye nick is clearly burntout from watching 10 billion animes at once, u can see him force things to say every single dialogue and keeps forgetting things from the story. Hopfully he realizes this and change his reaction plans abit to lower the shows he watches overall.
