Yeah man the first episode pacing was honestly quite bad. It got better near the end but otherwise it was good. Coming from someone who has read the whole thing it's really fast. I'd say lotm is one a lot slower paced webnovel compared to others and seeing it with such a fast pace is worrysome

My biggest tip for you is to always pause when theres a description of a new character with the subtitle on the top. It tells their name, their church, their sequence name. Don't worry about not understanding stuff. They did speedrun and skip a lot of the early chapters probably to get to some more action scenes to hook in the viewers like Leonard is not supposed to be this strong but I guess in order to attract viewers they made the early fights way more crazy then they were supposed to be. In the novels we were eased into everything having a lot of slice of life moments between events of Klein's daily life and we follow his every thoughts making everything easier to understand In the novels Klein actually spent around a week or so between being hired working as a civilian staff, and actually getting to drink a potion to become a beyonder. I think some of the skipped content can be shown in the next episodes. Here's the main stuff from these episodes without spoilers: How the power system works is that there are 22 different pathways which can be thought of like different classes in an RPG with different powers. The sequences are like the different levels of power with sequence 9 being a low level with relatively weak powers compared to higher sequences. When you start a pathway you can't switch anymore and you start at a low level with sequence 9 by drinking a potion. However despite getting powers you have a risk of losing control going crazy and becoming a monster. Once you have gained control of your powers fully by acting like the name of your sequence (as mentioned in Roselle's diary) e.g. acting like a seer, you can drink the next level of potion. Drinking the next sequence early has the same risks as before. Zhou had transmigrated meaning he had isekai'd from Earth after a luck enhancement ritual into the body of Klein who committed suicide due to circumstances involving a mysterious lost notebook. When he repeated the ritual he instead got teleported to the gray fog where he summoned Justice and Hanged Man and pretended to be this powerful being The Fool. The police came to investigate the missing notebook and the suicides of Welch and Naya, as well as Klein who survived. The spirit medium Daly tried to look into his memories resulting in that trippy scene but couldn't find anything. Klein found out Emperor Roselle had isekai'd long before him from his diary which was written in Chinese and Roselle mentioned he regretted the pathway he chose saying he'd have prefer a different path with one of them being seer which is why Klein chose that. Klein and Leonard then went on a mission to find the kidnapped boy with Klein using his new powers to help him. In the novel he was trained on how to do the divination he used his cane for with Old Neil and the kidnappers didn't turn into monsters. At the end Klein realised the missing notebook was related with that place somehow The after credits scene wasn't the past but just their older brother Benson coming home from his work to the new house they got due to Klein's new salary. That should be most of it but other than that there were some weird translations I think they'll probably fix in the next episodes when it becomes relevant.

They had to speed past the early parts of the novel just because it was a 13 episode show. It was said that episode 3 or 4 onwards will slow down the pace. these 2 episodes covered around 30% of the volume. Now they have 11 episodes left to adapt the remaining which should be enough. I am someone who really liked the slow burn start so i am not really happy about this but i understand it. At the end of the day they had to do what they had to do. I really hope you watch i all and maybe one day in the future read the web novel. Also Crunchyroll messed up a few translations.

hey nick, so the aftercredits of episode 2 is the present. Idk if you remember when Klein joined the Nighthawks, he got three pounds as his salary, and he said Benson (his brother) made only 5. That was a translation error, his brother actually makes a pound or less iirc. So basically Klein with his new salary was able to buy a house. They used to live in poverty, so thats why Benson cried. Anw ty for giving it a watch, and i hope toxic comments wont stop you from enjoying the show

This show is awesome so far. Really curious to see where this goes. I thought the whole grey fog fool stuff was his beyonder power, but then he gets that seer stuff? Very interested in finding out what this fool power is. I'm assuming it's related to him basically getting isekai'd or regressed or whatever happened to him, since the fake fortune girl said the fool was about new beginnings.

I'm commenting right after your question on whether or not to continue reacting to this, I'm enjoying the hell out of this show, and having your full reaction after watching it myself, has allowed me to see a ton of hints and info i totally missed on my first watch through. all im saying is i'll eat up every reaction you post of this. and honestly, its a breath of fresh air after the tobeherox stuff, which really disappointed me as a show. this is a masterpiece, and i've never even hear of this previously.

I think its top-1 of Summer season. From quality and story perspective, by popularity most likely will be more niche masterpiece, unfortunately anime western audience is still immature and mainly consists of children and teenagers, who likes only simple flashy action anime.

As a fan of the novel, the first two episodes felt hella rushed. Apparently, the team was given a chapter to reach by episode 3, and the episodes beyond that are paced more reasonably, so I'm holding out hope that it gets less confusing. That being said, I'm glad to see you're enjoying the series so far, and would love to see more!

Here’s an explanation Chinese citizen Zhou mingrui performs a luck enhancement ritual after a bad day at work, after he goes to sleep he wakes up in Klein morettis body, who had just killed himself after trying to decipher an ancient notebook with his friends Welch and Anya, which is now lost. After he wakes up he meets his sister, goes shopping and notices that he’s being followed, he escapes into a tent where he meets a woman that performs a divination for him, he draws a tarot card for his present and it’s the fool, the fool stands for a new begging. After he gets home he performs the luck enhancement ritual again and get transported into the mysterious grey fog, there are red stars and he touches two of them accidentally, resulting in the summoning of two people: Audrey hall, a noble teenage girl and Alger Wilson, a sailor from the church of the lord of storms and a beyonder, both of them were interacting with artifacts at the time of the summoning, which were destroyed after the summoning ended. Klein quickly decides that he will use his position to fool Audrey and Alger into thinking that he is a god, the mysterious Fool, the two of them wrap up a deal in which Audrey buys the potion to become a beyonder from Alger. She chooses the spectator pathway (the potion name was translated as the audience in the subtitles but i think this will either be fixed or different in the dub), the specific powers of this potion are still unknown (it was explained in the novel so it will probably be explained in future episodes). Klein gets exhausted from the use of the grey fog and ends the gathering after telling them that there will be gatherings in the future(Mondays at 3 pm). He gets visited by the police and they tell him that Welch and naya killed themselves, he tries to escape them but strange things happen and he realizes that he was pulled into a dream by the police captain Dunn smith, Dunn offers Klein to become a nighthawk, a special police division from the evernight church that fight and investigate supernatural powers under the guise of a security company. That’s episode 1, a few things are different from the novel but mostly they got everything. The pacing was way too fast tho

As a show only I think it was actually paced really well. If you took these four episodes and turned it into 1/3 of the season (4 eps) the show would not hold people's interest and would have immediately fallen off. It was super smart to release both of these episodes right away, since these two episodes give you just enough context about the story to know if you're interested or not, and enough answers / questions to get you invested. I also don't think it was really that confusing. Yeah it throws a lot at you, but the stuff you're supposed to know is pretty basic. 22 pathways, potions unlock sequence levels, there's at least 9 sequence levels, lower numbers are better, different paths have different talents, etc. Do we get an explanation of what a transmigrator is? No, but it just feels like another term for someone Isekai'd. Do we know what the grey fog / fool power is and how it fits into the sequences (if at all)? Nope, but Klein doesn't either so that's okay. I wouldn't mind learning what all the pathways are, what their strengths and weaknesses are, how the sequences relate the pathways, if you level up your sequence, or if you slot in sequences into the path etc, but that's all stuff they'll explain later i'm sure, so there's no rush to learn it all now.

For anyone watching this and hasn't read it. Definitely manage your expectations, it's my favorite webnovel of all time but it's way more digestable in novel format. It's also supposed to be a slow burn, so the pacing and lore might feel too fast and hard to keep up and that's because it's hard to get a good pacing in 1 season of anime. Volume 1 is 200k plus words which is longer than Harry Potter deathly hallows. Which is what the 1st season is supposed to cover. So yeah, definitely temper expectations so you won't be disappointed.

Btw I read somewhere that there were some translations mistakes that Crunchyroll made and some are kinda important. When looking for information to understand LOTM it might be good to look for those translation mistakes. But in the end its ofcourse your choice whether you want to or not

we got news that the reason why everything is so fast paced is because TenCent mandated the clown fight by episode 3. So the people paying for it demanded this. Now it all makes sense why they would cut so much content when they put so much effort into the anime. If you have read the novel the clown fight happens at around chapter 70. They were forced to animate 70+ chapters!!! in 3 episodes. that is unrealistic. And they still managed to do such a good job. I am completely at peace now and am fully excited for the novel because i know its in capable hands.

It's said the 3rd episode is gonna adapt 40+/50+ chapters🥲 So that's gonna be nearly 50% of volume 1 in 3 episodes.(volume 1 is 213 chapters) The good part of it all would be that the rest 4-13 episodes will be slower paced because now they have approx. 100 chapters for 10 episodes, that would be 10+ chapters per episode(which is not that bad considering the events of later half of Volume 1) So we'll see howit goes.
