So before you get bombarded with the “this anime is proincest” blah blah blah bs I hope you read this first. No spoilers Her whole arch is the fact that she is a young girl who lost the person she was closest to because he found out they weren’t siblings, then she lost him AGAIN to SAO for 2 years and was basically sure he was gonna die, then when he came back he was so focused on Asuna that she STILL doesn’t have him back. And she is in a constant struggle because she doesn’t understand her feelings and DOES NOT want them to be romantic or affect kirito in any negative way. The anime doesn’t do the best job at making this obvious because it is trying to be kind of subtle (also the production company A1 pictures is perverted af) but this is a generally accepted interpretation among non-haters

It actually makes a lot of since if you just stop to connect the pieces and think about it critically instead of judgmentally for just 2 seconds. Its not like she wants those feelings, especially after she knows the truth. God forbid anybody even try to put themselves in anybody else shoes, especially in the context of a situation that makes then uncomfortable... Damn man I miss when people were more empathetic and just smarter honestly... oh well.

I still don’t understand why this plot line was necessary and even then they turn it into some sort of fan service. It’s just weird all around. A better way to write is maybe she’s feeling disconnected from her brother and being unable to relate with him which then inspires her to play the new game. Just my opinion since I’m not a hater, I just dislike this arc in particular,

It’s written the way it is for there to be weight in the payoff at the end and to add dimensions to her character. Sure you can just not have it, but then you gotta fill in like 4 episodes of time worth of filler in what is already essentially just a straight line fetch quest. You can make it about her wanting to connect but then there’s no real drama and her problems are solved without kirito ever knowing there was a problem, if she craves more attention then she’s just needy and annoying. If she’s just along for the ride then you’ve got a one dimensional powerhouse who is basically just a talking map. Giving a 14 year old extremely complex feelings (this point would be mute if she wanted to act on them) gives her a legitimate and believable reason to be awkward, jealous, emotionally overwhelmed, and needy whilst also knowing those things need to be suppressed because she doesn’t want those feelings and wants to be helpful to someone who means the world to her. But everyone has their opinions, you don’t need to like the arc, but it wasn’t written poorly and it has reason.

i understood it from the beginning her whole goal at first was to get rid of the feelings she had. Thats why when she meet him in the Alo she thought she could finally get over it. Idk how so many people this part of the story they didnt try pushing the incest thing at all.

i meeeaaaaan Rudeus and Eris are extremely distant cousins (in medieval times) whereas Kirito and Suguha are first cousins with a sibling relationship. I think their situations are VERY different personally.

Tbf they wrote themselves in a corner for speedrunning SAO in the first place. Genuinely one of the biggest fumbles in anime. Like the whole show is named after it yet it’s only 10% of it. Imagine them finding the one piece in the first arc

In their defense, SAO was originally written for a short story contest but was disqualified for being too long lol everything afterwards is because it exploded in popularity, and everything is still caused by the original SAO.

I usually just say watch episode 1-12 and skip the rest and try gun gale if you like rip off star wars. Then go alicezation because it's like as if it was written by a different author (except for the last parts which just kind of just go's back into the same weird stuff)

People make this shit sound like they are about to have some crazy steamy sibling action that will make up the entirety of the show... This is a teenage anime girl with a weird one-sided crush, shocker, never been done before. It's not gonna be some yosuga no sora or oreimo shit, this isn't even on irregular at magic high level. [SPOILER] The feelings are never reciprocated, everyone is aware that it is weird, they talk, it's done, never really plays a role again after the arc. From what i remember it is actually treated rather maturely for what it is.

Actually yes it is, it’s not the norm, but it’s legal in Japan, just like it’s legal in almost every single country in Europe and even tho it has decreased in recent years, it’s still something that happens quite frequently in more traditional and wealthy families in Japan and like we can see it in SAO, Kirito’s family is actually a more traditional family, with the grandfather having a Kendo dojo and everything, so it’s not that crazy, what is crazy tho in SAO is the fact that Suguha was implied to have such feelings towards Kirito even before knowing he’s her cousin, they were raised as brother and sister but she still developed feelings towards her "brother" even if it’s technically fine now that she knows he’s her cousin, it’s still a bit weird she had these feelings before knowing the truth
