In case you didn't realize, Jax was starting to abstract during his "nap," which he at first looks confused and tense, but then seems to relax as his mind slips away thinking of his abstracted friends, preparing to join them

Just to clear some stuff up, Caine is an AI. He was programmed to keep their minds occupied with adventures and the reason why Jax said “you can mess with our minds” is because the theory is that Caine CAN in fact use the circus members’ trauma or past against them. So supposedly, Caine used Jax and his memories from the real world (hence the pictures) to make Jax remember something from his life that is possibly traumatic that made him want to stay in the circus and press the red button. Since Caine said “I knew you’d never pick the blue button,” he only said that because he planned to use Jax to press the red button all along. Otherwise they would have pressed the leave option, and Caine knew that, so he used Jax. He knows Jax’s weaknesses. And when Kinger said “scratch the first abstraction,” it was indicating that Caine can make people abstract and do that BY messing with their minds. That is what happened early in the episode with jax, that whole sequence wasn’t a dream or nightmare it was the process of abstraction. Thankfully, Pomni ringed the doorbell which snapped him out of abstracting. Right after Jax wakes up in a panic you can see his eyes were already abstracting. Since Caines job is to make adventures that he thinks they would like, he made the adventure based on leaving the circus. That is what he is programmed to do. You will learn more interesting stuff that will clear things in the next episode, too. None of this is spoiler, just stuff the episode was messaging and theories.

This entire series was planned out before episode 1 ever aired, which means every scene, every word spoken, is meaningful. Your reaction to this was the first time I watched episode 7 since seeing 8 and in hindsight, it's so obvious that this was always an adventure. But when I saw episode 7 at its premiere in December, I was convinced they were going to leave.
