Nick, I'm genuinely so happy you finally started this. This will be an anime like NO other. Nothing will feel like this. This anime is what I consider a true masterpiece and is along with Vinland Saga, AOT or One Piece, in the highest tier of anime. A must watch and I hope you continue.

I also agree with most folks here as well... the English Dub for Steins;Gate has many objective superiorities over the sub. I would wager its honestly on par with Cowboy Bebop's English Dub in terms of quality. So yeah, if you ever consider the idea, I would definitely rewatch in Dub from Episode 1 onward. 👍

I cannot stress this enough, if you get through the first like, 3-4 episodes this will probably become at least a top 10-15 for you, it's an incredible show and the second season is just as good

Well... no... lmao That's simply taking my consensus to an extreme. XD I would wager and agree with you... that in a large majority of circumstances, the Sub is typically the way to go with just about any anime. However, with very **specific** series like Steins;Gate, Cowboy Bebop, Code Geass, Fullmetal Alchemist, etc etc – there are certain tonal differences that are so undeniably significant with their Dubs... to the point where it's genuinely considered worth switching. In most cases though, yes, you're correct... Subs will typically be the ideal experience over Dubs. Or at the very least, the Sub will be so similar in nature to the Dub, to where watching one over the other is effectively inegligible. However, I should state again... in very rare circumstances, LIKE Steins;Gate – the English Dub can objectively outshine the Sub, just on a consistency basis alone. • (having watched both) Simply put... Exceptional Script Writing + Passionate Voice Actors = A Good Experience Most of the time, the original Japanese Cast will do much better in those regards. But sometimes... the English Cast will absolutely lock the fuck in, and deliver something which somehow feels more authentic than the original JP production. It's just how it be sometimes. ;P

Fun fact: This show may have been inspired by the real live John Titor time traveler posts, where a supposed time traveler came back to get an IBM computer with a certain issue that I beleive mostly only the engineers knew about at the time or something like that. Pretty intriguing. I'm not saying it's true, but it was very fascinating!

I agree for at least Okabe, the Dub is perfect. The only thing slightly better in the sub is the laugh sometimes I'd say. I can't remember the other characters. I watched it subbed first though. I think sub would be better overall for the side characters though, especially for Feylis since I feel the gag doesn't translate as well into English.

I agree, it starts pretty slowly, but it's important for building and building tension and the feeling of how everything changes. Almost like their life goes from Ordinary to Extraordinary in how it feels.

Here's to hoping he doesn't drop it. Its a bit of a slow burner from what i remember about it but once the ball starts rolling you cant stop watching. I remember like 10 years ago i started it then dropped it after like 3 episodes thinking it was boring. Little did i know if i just contented watching for a bit longer it would get really good.

Honestly I'd say the opposite. The dub is a 7/10. Sub is 10/10. Yes there are some great dubs of anime, like Death Note and FMA:B, but Steins;Gate just isn't one of them. They change the dialogue and the impressions of the characters too much. Not to mention the JP dub has a legendary cast of VAs, and they already know the characters well since they also voiced the visual novel.

I should additionally clarify, I don't 'dislike' the Sub at all per se, and I've also played through the entire Visual Novel as well; so I can certainly appreciate and understand your perspective regarding the dialog alterations in particular. And admittedly, that was one single detail that originally caught me hella off guard when going from the VN to the dubbed anime for the first time, lmao. However after rewatching Steins;Gate in dub close to 8 times at this point, I've honestly grown an immense appreciation for it. Primarily in the sense that the English VA's really sell the idea that Future Gadget Labs is just a bundle of different personalities and talents melted into one seemingly average and ordinary friend group - capable of monstrous undertakings. – (the sub of course does a pretty good job at this too) But yeah, I dunno, I guess the Steins;Gate dub has really landed somewhere special for me over the years. I mostly feel as though I can resonate with the characters significantly more with the dub, largely on a tonal level – (which is exceptionally rare, cause typically, most anime dubs absolutely suck at achieving that) lol But sometimes, them script writers really know how to cook up somethin' phenomenal for their English VA's. And I'd personally say Steins;Gate falls into that categorical exception. That said, here's my respective rating: Sub • 8.5/10 Dub • 9.7/10 This is just my take anyways. And again, we can agree to disagree, so it's chill. Appreciate your opinion nonetheless, fellow S;G enjoyer. :P
