I agree that it is or can feel fan service but there are also some things that are in line with the characters (even if they are executed kinda poorly) like esdeath literally being a sociopath/mass murderer who does whatever she wants based off her curren mood, her rigging a tournament to kidnap someone is very esdeath thing to do 😭

Esdeath chaining Tatsumi isn’t meant to be fanservice, it’s showing how crazy and possessive she is on someone who she claimed as hers, and it’s also plot relevant for later.
