@Sean Carroll you don't even need to watch dragon ball to watch dragon ball z. other than missing character introductions theres not much lore you learn in the over a hundred episodes of og dragon ball, that is actually relevant to the real beginning of the story in dragon ball z.

@nexus I am replying to you here because i cant comment on the other thread, but to say one piece has better filler and that 90% of og dragonball is filler is genuine 60 IQ logic. Mid piss legit has the worst filler and pacing to ever exist, Nick has even said Db has better filler. Also to say you don't gain any knowledge from watching db is insane, are you watching it with your eyes closed or are you just too blinded by the 60 IQ? Also i can guarantee if i skip to episode 150 of mid piss i would be able to pickup on everything going on within 1 episode, so not sure what point you're even trying to make

Honestly only the *lookout* filler arc is actually good filler, the rest is ethier mid or passable in my opinion. (Praying he watches kai instead of z or he will have a stroke in the early episodes). Wait, the honeymoon arc is actually peak my bad

These upcoming filler is a mixed bag of good and meh but all enjoyable to me but that aside I feel like it really adds to the journey of Goku before the next arc, I’d say not to skip it on first watch but everyone seems a bit impatient and unable to enjoy the ride and are more worried about the destination so whatever I guess up to you

@James i never said one piece has good filler, all filler is garbage. doesnt add anything to the story. and its true that most of OG dragon ball isn't important to the story into dragon ball Z and beyond, you can easily understand whats going on in dragon ball Z and beyond without watching OG dragon ball. and the story actually picks up and gets interesting at the start of Z. THATS what my point was. i dont know why you're upset over that take. One piece has bad pacing, congrats, thats the only criticism you even have for it? one piece is better than dragon ball i hate to tell you that. and ive seen both series unlike you who hates on one piece blindly.

If you watch and without seeing dragonball you wouldn’t have any connection to the characters whatsoever. The first 2 sagas of og dragonball (pilaf and roshi training/tournament) are great starting points. Red ribbon army and general blue arcs are boring with the mercenary Tao arc being great. Baba arc is fine up until gohan making it good. Finally the 3 last sagas (Tien and king piccolo) arcs is the best section of og dragonball. If you skip all of that you don’t care about any of the characters. A lot of the true heart of the series is in og dragonball. People are just too accustomed to having epic shows these days that they can’t handle longer shows. Dbz is epic action while og dragonball has the heart of the story where it was still simple before epic galactic battles etc
