Summary: Agent Widowmaker was supposed to be emotionless, the perfect killing machine, a woman born from violence. But what if that wasn't true? What if she still had a link to her former life? Would she be able to pry herself out from the depths below, or would she be consumed by the darkness? (Naruto/Widowmaker) (Oneshot)

Please leave me lots and lots of NICE reviews.

Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto, Overwatch, or any other anime I use in this story. They belong to their respective owners…

Ma Chérie

When she was a girl, she had a fear of spiders…

She was told that they felt no emotions, that their hearts did not beat.

But she knew the truth…_______________________________________________________________Walking through King's Row, the crowd was in an uproar below the streets, people shouting, proclaiming their signs and their desires for peace, for equality. There was no discrimination among the group, humans and omnics, robotic individuals who were originally made to be servants, they became something so much more.

Now, after the war against omnics, people yearned for equality, so that one day the two races might be able to one day walk the streets together. That it would be normal to interact with the other, that one race was no longer lesser.

The Shambali organization was soon to form, an organization led by the Omnic Tekhartha Mondatta. The organization believes that both omnics and humans share the same type of soul. That somewhere along the lines, where the lines of code in their programming combined, interacting with one another, it formed these 'ghosts' in their programming, and they evolved. Personality formed, becoming more like their creators than they were initially intended.

Shambhali advocated that peace between humans and omnics was indeed possible and that conflict was not necessary and only served to damage both sides as long as it happened.

Mondatta was a tall figure, one with a white face and gold plating along his lower chin and jaw, resembling that of a human mouth. His eyes were formed into creases as if they were always closed, with several glowing blue symbols on his forehead organized in a diamond, eight of them in total. He wore white robes that only held one sleeve, revealing his chest, which consisted of numerous metal pipes and pistons that comprised his being. His whole body was silver like iron, though right in the middle of his chest held a golden plating, denoting he held a voice just like any other.

He was the leader of such an organization, believing peace was better than war…

That was why he needed to be killed.

Peace was far less profitable than war, and the operatives at Talon, the shadowy organization that created terror across the world. Stemming conflict for various reasons and ideas from its members, and leaving nought a trace to be heard of them.

That was why they had sent one of their best operatives to Mondatta's peace rally. That is why they sent her…

Agent Widowmaker.

She was indeed a beautiful woman, like a flower of oleander, captivating, yet equally poisonous to the touch.

She was slender, with an athletic build due to her training and lifestyle, and yellow eyes that stalked her prey. Her skin was an unnatural blue, with purple tresses being tied at her back into a long ponytail that reached her thighs. She wore a tight, form-fitting, backless bodysuit that was purple with black segmented leg and arm guards, with black gloves and boots.

She had a high-tech visor across her forehead with several red sensors that helped her with aiming when she needed it. As her weapon of choice was her 'widow's kiss', a purple and black rifle with a large stock that she could change into both her primary, which was an automatic machine gun, and her main use, which was a high-powered sniper rifle .

Additionally, while her bodysuit left nothing to the imagination, tracing every curve from her long legs to her toned breasts, it was also low cut, with a neckline that reached down her solar plexus, showing a good deal of her cleavage. Across her back was a tattoo of a spider, a black widow, with a red hourglass design. And her right arm held a spider web tattoo, one that read 'araignée du soir, cauchemar' meaning 'evening spider, nightmare.' A play on a French saying that she would be the last spider one ever saw.

As the widow traveled without a trace, dissipating any of the armed forces without a sound before they could sound the others over the rooftops. Moving along to the designated vantage spot, a place that had been picked out for her months in advance. With careful planning, having received a tip from a mole, Talon had acquired, denoting Shambali's bodyguard formation. Where she would have the easiest time without being spotted under the cover of darkness.

And that was where she reigned, throwing a swift punch towards the policeman who was at her vantage point, as she but his head in with the stock of her widow's kiss. Of course, this didn't kill him, no, she had far too little time for that, and that was not her goal for the night. But he was knocked unconscious just long enough for her to make her escape before anyone noticed she was even there.

Embedding her grappling hook in a nearby chimney, holding its wire as she walked near the edge of the brick-laid building just two blocks from Mondatta. She tied the rope around her boot with seamless ease, wrapping it around her heel, as she smirked.

This was just too easy…

Lowering herself with fluidity, stopping herself at the right moment. Instantly, her widow's kiss' barrel lengthened, and her scope moved upward into proper position, changing to her sniper position, as she readied herself. Looking through her lens, and the visor moving down as it gave her readings, waiting for her rifle to charge up and ready its deadly bullet.

In her crosshairs was Mondatta, watching him along the corner of a house with two widows. She could see a couple sitting in their home, watching as the Shambhali organization walked about. There was likely content, amazed that such an event would be happening right at their very doorstep. And truly, it was a monumentous occasion, one where both human and omnic would unite for a better future.

A shame she would ruin it…

She zoomed in on her scope. This was the perfect angle, tailored specifically so that she could only see where Mondatta was at his speaker's stand as he readied his speech.

Her hand moved towards the trigger…

XXX

(Earlier.)

In the crowd, people and omnic walked, everyone at arm's length; in the crowd, there was no discrimination. Kids, young teens, omnics, and old people, each waiting to hear the speech that Mondatta would give on this momentous day. The crowd was in an uproar, some holding up their signs for peace, while others chanted Mondatta's name in unison.

Silently, a figure walked among the people, weaving around them as he looked around.

He had blonde spikey hair and blue eyes; his appearance was rather odd, as he had tanned skin, with three distinct whisker-like markings across his face. He was dressed in a strange outfit that consisted of a black Kevlar chest plate with black combat pants and boots. He also wore a large white haori with a golden chain, with red flames licking the bottom, and a kunai pouch on his thigh.

As he walked about, a child spotted him, recognizing him from old pictures and broadcasts as he moved along with the people.

He looked at Mondatta as he spoke, a monk who had grown to have a way with the people.

"Humans. Machines. We are all one within the iris. Before me, I see the future, humans and omnics standing together, united by compassion… by common hopes and dreams."

The man spoke, Naruto agreed with his sentiments, feeling that there was too much violence in this world to worry about whether someone was human or a robot; it didn't matter, just as everyone got along.

Though of course, that wasn't why he was here at the moment.

Looking around, he saw a shadow moving across the rooftop, garbed in purple and moonlight, as she positioned herself. Any other person wouldn't have caught her, only because they didn't know where to look. They were distracted, but him… he knew what he was doing.

"I've found you…"

He whispered, determination in his features, as he clenched his fist tightly.

XXX

(Present)

She zoomed in on her scope. This was the perfect angle, tailored specifically so that she could only see where Mondatta was at his speaker's stand as he readied his speech.

Her hand moved towards the trigger…

Though she stopped, right as her Widow's Kiss was about to be charged to 100%, her sensors warned her of an oncoming danger in her peripherals. One that was almost too fast for her to react to, a figure running along the walls as if gravity held him against them, jumping in the air with practiced ease.

Knives were sent her way, ones that did not target her but the line she had around her, striking the reinforced cord at several spots, trying to knock her down.

With a single fluid motion, Widowmaker released herself from her binding, letting the rope fall as she grabbed it with her free hand. Using her other hand to transform her widow's kiss into its machine gun state, firing off several rounds towards her attacker as the blonde figure dodged in the air to evade her bullets.

The talon agent swung herself into the nearby building, straight through the window as she crashed into it with a mighty shatter, recalling her grappling hook as she did so.

It was then that she got a look at the man, and her eyes widened.

"Hey, Amelie, it's been a while…" the figure spoke with a smirk, eyeing her from the building across from her, standing on it with that strange technique that allowed him to walk up trees like so.

"What are you doing here… Naruto?" Widowmaker spoke, a slight amount of disdain at the mention of her former name.

Though this only made her attacker, the now named 'Naruto', smile even wider, "Oh, you know, I can't miss a good party, not when you're in the crowd watching the main event."

His response was a volley full of bullets courtesy of the blue French woman; this was done to gain a bit of distance and to push him away. As the Widow then used the opportunity as the man dodged to attach her grappling hook above her and towards the top floor of the building, dogging all of the staircases that she would have had to have taken had she gone the normal route up the building.

Of course, this did not help her much, not when her attacker could move up buildings with a single leap. Though it seemed Widowmaker was ready for him, firing an even larger volley as he jumped up, he was forced to hide behind a reinforced pillar of concrete.

Bringing his ear up to a com-link, he shouted, "Security has been breached, get Mondatta out of here!" he told the security detail in charge of the event, having already gotten access to their voice network sometime before he entered the event.

"This is a secure channel; nobody is authorized to be on this channel. Identify yourself imme—" One of the workers tried to say, though Naruto cut him off.

"Now!" he shouted, not leaving any room for argument as even more gunshots rang out in the night.

Right, hopefully now they will decide to get Mondatta out of here, and away into safety.

"Tsk!" A scowl ran through Widowmaker's mouth, knowing that her job would only become that much harder for her. Though, of course, she knew the noise was necessary, especially when a former agent of overwatch was concerned.

But of all the agents to come across… why did it have to be him?

Shooting even more suppressing fire, she knew that her target was getting away from her, as she backed away. Moving closer towards the peace rally, and closer towards a group of armed guards.

Jumping off the rooftop as she launched herself right on top of the men, getting the drop on them as she aimed her rifle at the armed guards. Dodging their bullets as she leaped across the top of the building, jumping along the railing and off the nearby chimneys. She landed on a guard before he could react, instantly knocking him to the floor as she shot a few shots towards the last guard, who was not incapacitated. Kicking the man that she landed on, knocking him out.

As she lowered her visor, she checked to see where her target was. It seemed like Mondatta was being escorted through the crowd, such foolish bodyguards, didn't they realize that there was nowhere they could hide from her? Especially not in such an open area.

"Ahhhh, shit…"

Unfortunately, it was then that Naruto realized he was no longer getting shot at. Spotting Widow's figure several buildings away, he moved to go after her.

Naruto jumped into the air after the woman, as she noticed him, giving a light smirk as she ran along the rooftops. The blond following after her, though, what he didn't notice was that a venom mine was to be placed along a nearby chimney, completely blocked by his view.

Naruto ran for the woman, as when he walked by it the object went off. "Well, that can't be good…" he said as his entire body was enveloped in purple smoke that was filled with poison.

"Cough… Cough!... Cough!" Naruto heaved, the poison air filling his lungs as he collapsed to the ground.

Right where Widowmaker was… standing over him.

"You were a fool to come here…" Widowmaker told him emotionlessly, putting her heel against his shoulder, as she readied her rifle towards his head, ready to shoot.

"You know, perhaps I am…Cough… Cough… perhaps I am… Amelie…" Naruto told her, accepting his fate.

"You would be wise to now call me that…" Although surprisingly, she did not shoot him, sending a powerful and heavy kick towards his back, as he keeled over in pain.

"I know how your abilities work, I know you will be incapacitated for some time, long enough for me to get out of here," she told him, walking towards the balcony of the building, ready to take his shot.

"And why shouldn't I call you by your name...?" said Naruto, as, surprisingly, his body got up, struggling to do so, as his rapid regeneration worked to try and purge the poison from his system, but even that was a bother.

"Why shouldn't I call you by who you were!" he said on shaking legs.

"That was a long time ago, Naruto… The Amelie you once knew is dead. I killed her," she told him, readying her rifle, waiting for it to charge and to get the perfect shot. Right now, she was in the perfect spot to see him where he was headed. Right towards his armored limousine, she would lose him if he entered it.

"Really, because from where I'm standing she's still here, still alive… still breathing, just as I am now!" The blonde shouted, adamant that the woman he once knew was still in there.

Widow knew that was not the case, "And what makes you think that you will be breathing for very long?"

Naruto smirked, "Because I've changed in the years since we've seen each other… I've gotten stronger than the boy you once knew." As the blonde rushed towards her, his body seemingly recovered from her poison. Her data was outdated; these days, poisons rarely affected him, and even the most powerful toxins didn't last long in his system.

Immediately, Widowmaker's eyes widened for a fraction of a second, turning just in time to raise her barrel towards him.

Immediately, Naruto stopped in his tracks, his hands up in the air in mock surrender. "You know, you must have forgotten… I never fight alone."

As before, Widowmaker realized, a knife had been placed at the woman's throat, courtesy of a shadow clone Naruto had created when he was being shot just a few minutes ago, when he had taken cover.

"Now, let's talk…" Naruto told her with determination, finally having the opportunity to talk to her after so long. It wouldn't be long before Mondatta would be away from the area, and from then Widowmaker would be taken into custody, and his search for her would be over.

But Widowmaker merely smirked, knowing she still had the upper hand in the situation. "Well, we could do that… or you could deal with the bomb I placed while you were chasing after me…"

Naruto's eyes widened as he turned towards his left to see that there was indeed a venom mine placed on the edge of the railing. From what he could tell, it was positioned on top of a small amount of rubble, making it unstable enough that where after a small amount of time it would fall over.

Which is what the woman planned as the mine wobbled, the mine was about to land on the streets below, and from then on, it would be scattered around the populace, and there was no telling what sort of devastation that would bring.

"Oh no, you don't!" the real Naruto shouted, as he rushed for the object right as it fell over.

Instantly, he formed his hands into a familiar cross as the object fell. He jumped off the building, ready to catch it.

"I got it!"

Forming two clones as he formed a chain, reaching out with his clones. As the venom mine started to go off due to his proximity, Naruto spun with his clones in the air as he launched the mine so high that when it blew up, its gases would be picked up by the wind.

Meanwhile, Widowmaker was still being held at knifepoint by Naruto's other clone. Though he did hear her whisper.

"That's where you're wrong, Naruto… I do remember what you are capable of."

As before, the clone of Naruto could react— seeing as how he was distracted by Naruto just going to retrieve her bomb— she hit him with the butt of her stock right in the chest, causing him to disperse.

With a smirk, she ran towards the end of the building, jumping off where Naruto had leapt from.

Boom!

As her venom mine exploded in the air, scattering purple mist into the sky.

Naruto and his clones continued falling. What happened next was in slow motion…

Seeing Widowmaker readying herself within the air, aiming her rifle, looking through her scope as she closed her opposite eye. The cold wind flowed through her long hair as it trickled across their skin. She did not tense her body, relaxing her muscles so that her body could easily distribute the force across her body. Waiting for her rifle to charge to 100%, she pulled her painted figure towards her trigger.

She gave a look of recognition towards Naruto as he fell, his eyes pleading for her not to do it, to not take the shot at him. To not be the monster he denied her to be. Perhaps she would have listened to him in another time, another place. Listened to his talks, to his foolish speeches, and perhaps he might have convinced her. But not now…

She fired.

A twitch of her fingers, perhaps a slight adjustment. With a mighty clang erupting from her barrel as the casing flew out of her gun's body as she pulled the trigger. A small explosion rang out, sending a high-caliber tungsten and steel bullet flying through the air, right towards Naruto and his clones…

It struck one of them, right in the middle, as it collapsed in a poof of smoke, leaving the other two Narutos to watch as the bullet traveled further.

Of course, she knew how his technique worked, the blonde being able to create an almost exact duplicate of himself, the only caveat being that they were rather fragile when it came to it. A disadvantage she used against him.

The bullet traveled on in horror, as Naruto realized far too late that right behind him, moving about in the crowd, was Mondotta tried to enter his vehicle. His security detail was ushering him through the crowd as he held his head low, trying to get to safety.

Sadly, it never came…

The bullet hit its mark.

Silence.

Widowmaker had hit her target with a mighty clang, the bullet grazing into his metal for all to see. As his body fell towards the floor in a heap, many of the onlookers watched in terror as their beloved figure had been hit right in front of them. Though the bullet did not hit Mondatta's head, as first intended, but his chest, striking him in his chest as the peaceful figure crashed into the false security of his limo. The lamps upon his head, flickering in their place.

The crowd was left in silence.

As screams of terror then remained.

XXX

Widowmaker used her grappling hook to hoist herself up towards another rooftop. Her job having been finished, now all she had to do was wait for extraction.

As Naruto came to meet her once again, jumping from the ground towards the rooftops, the droves of people screamed at Mondatta's misery.

"Amelie! Amelie!... How could you do this!" Naruto cried out, angry that the woman had actually shot the peaceful man, a man who yearned for understanding, for security for both humans and his people. He just wanted the world to be in harmony; that was why they wanted him killed.

Yet, Widowmaker just stood on the rooftops, silent as ever, merely showing her back to him, and she didn't even bother to glance at him.

"Hmph… why are you so surprised? I thought I told you, the Amelie you once knew is gone forever…" she said in a disinterested tone, as if she didn't care who she once was. Who she was to him…

"Yeah, but even still… I-I…" Naruto tried to say, but his words left him. All that was in front of him was a monster, a ghost of the woman he once knew.

One that had turned into nothing but a visage of Amelie Lacroix's former beauty.

Naruto rushed at her faster than she could react, forming a Rasengan in his hand, charging for her, and knocking her to the ground as she lay below him. The blonde holding the spiraling sphere towards her face, ready to grind her apart.

"What are you going to do… kill me?" She questioned, looking him dead in the eyes.

Her cold, yellow eyes pierced into his determined blues. He looked at her, his body above hers as he panted from the exertion.

"You would be doing us both a favor… kill me."

And yet Naruto hesitated, bringing his hand down only to stop it for to reach inches from her face. But that wasn't enough for her.

"Kill me. Do it." she told him.

A sliver of emotion in her voice, an anomaly from the usual cold and dark assassin that they made her to be.

And for the slightest of moments, only a fraction of a second, Naruto saw her, the old Amelie Lacroix, and he could not do it…

He could not besmirch his promise to Gerard's not after all this time.

Lights began to flash above them, as propellers sounded, alerting her that her carrier had arrived for her evac.

In that instant, Amelie was gone, and only Agent Widowmaker was left.

"Then we are both lost… adieu cherie…" she echoed.

Widow then released her grappling hook right behind Naruto's back, wrapping her legs and arms around him as she used the line to pull the blonde back. Widowmaker catapulted them both of their bodies flying, as Naruto's eyes widened.

Widowmaker uses the blonde's own body as a brace, sending him crashing to the ground with a mighty crash, forming a crater from their impact.

"Ack!" Naruto tried to say, as his spine hit the pavement.

With the Overwatch member incapacitated, Widowmaker then hoisted herself back up the building with her equipment. Retrieving her rifle as she made her escape…

Though this would not be the last time she would see the blonde, not at all.

XXX

Mondatta survived.

The bullet that pierced the leader of Shambali leader struck his chest and injured him severely… though it did not kill him. Not instantly, and with haste, he had been carefully taken to a secure Omnic medical facility that had been completely evacuated. He had been put on lockdown, with only trusted security going in and out of the building. Even still, Mondatta was in grave shape after the assassin's bullet had struck him, the news sources still not confirming who the shooter was or what exactly happened the night of the incident at King's Row.

And while the peacekeeper hadn't perished, the damage had been done. It was possible that the man wouldn't recover and would be scarred for the rest of his life.

Omnic and Human Relations also took a major hit that day, with several riots erupting all across the globe. For better or worse, Talon's intention had been realized.

It was likely that their relations would never recover, even if Mondatta were to return to the political scene in the future.

Yet, in assassination terms, she had failed.

She had been sent to kill Mondatta, to execute him in cold blood and leave no room for recovery. To leave him in the grave in a pile of scrap metal and iron to the point that the pieces could no longer be reassembled into the robotic puzzle that he was. A clean headshot that had been what she had been instructed to go for, nothing else would do. And she was the best shot, the greatest sniper in the world, to the point nobody could ever come close. Ana Amari had found that information the hard way. She had been trained by the best, become the best, and had her body enhanced in a number of different ways.

That still did not explain her failure.

Even though Talon had gotten what they wanted in the end, they desired punishment; they desired retribution…

The drowning sensation enveloped her, and despite what people believed, it was not a loud experience, not like the movies.

No, the sensation was silent, though not instantaneous. One did not have the opportunity to scream, to flail their arms, and to wave around; they did not possess such liberties. No, the water entered through your esophagus, through your trachea—the windpipe, as many call it. It filled your lungs completely; the liquid rushing into your throat in mighty waves.

Though you were not powerless to stop it, naturally, given any obstruction, homeostasis began to occur. The body initiated the gag reflex, trying to expel the excess water within your system. Though usually, this action was futile, the more water one pushed out of their throat, the more came in, often allowing one to not push out the water at all.

Eventually, the lack of oxygen in your system caused your bodily functions to cease. Your brain cuts off due to a cessation of oxygen; most of the time, your body shuts off by then, as you have already lost consciousness. This leads to cardio-respiratory arrest, ceasing all breathing and circulation of the body.

You die.

Without proper intervention, your chances of survival are slim.

And yet you died without a sound, you couldn't scream, you couldn't cry out. You just died, and what you did or what sort of life you lived did not matter. Death was universal and uncaring, choosing man, woman, child, elder, it did not matter. It would come for her someday; perhaps that day wouldn't be soon enough.

Of course, Talon would not let that happen.

Removing the wet cloth from her mouth, finally, as she was unrestrained. Allowing Agent Widowmaker to lean up and heave out all of her mouth's contents, expelling all water and fluid from her windpipe and stomach. She was naked, lying along the metal table, stripped of all her clothing as another sadistic way to degrade her in her torture.

That was when a voice came out, one she recognised, the one that freed her.

"47.23 minutes, not bad, Lacroix, you might have even set a new record for yourself," a woman's voice rang out in amusement. They were in a dark room, a lab in one of Talon's underground bases.

In front of her was an Irish woman of about fifty years of age, she had short red hair and pale skin. She was thin, lanky, though that didn't stop the conceited look she would give to all who witnessed her, as if she were analyzing them, trying to figure out something about you that even you didn't know. Her eyes were heterochromatic, her left eye a cold blue, whereas her right was an unearthly red, matching her ghoulishly damaged right hand, a result of her biotic experiments that gave the woman her abilities.

"Oh, is that emotion I detect in your gaze?" She smirked, looking at her like another lab experiment. "If I didn't know any better, I would swear you were getting too good for our torture methods…"

Of course she was, it was her experiments that slowed her body's heart rate and vital systems, leading for her to be the only person alive who would remain alive whilst being underwater for so long.

Her handler, of course, knew this; it was why she opted for such methods to punish her so. Each minute she was conscious, each minute her body was alive, she could feel the water enter her lungs, enter her throat as her body rejected it.

It felt like an eternity, lingering on the line of life and death for so long she couldn't count how many times the woman held a cloth over her face, watering it ever so slightly so that she would survive, but only just barely.

"I'm sure you would have no problems coming up with any methods, Moria," Widowmaker stated, a not-so-slight amount of disdain in her voice at the woman.

This was Moria O'Deorain, the lead geneticist for the Talon organization, and she was also the one to alter her body, changing her to what she is today.

The elite assassin.

The woman who never missed a shot.

The maker of Widows, a monster who killed her own husband.

That was what she had become due to this woman's influence.

Moria's lips parted, "Aren't you a charmer?"

As the lab-coated woman rounded her, she unlocked her feet from the 45-degree table, setting her free.

"If I had it my way, you would be here longer, but the executives wish to reward you. After all, even though you did miss, you still got your job done, and that is commendable…"

As Widowmaker's yellow eyes narrowed, "I never miss…"

"You did," she said so surely. "You were ordered to shoot your target through the head, and yet you chose the chest. I want to know why."

"..."

Widowmaker remained silent, not really knowing the answer herself. Just why had she chosen the body instead of the head, like she had originally planned? What had been her motivation?

But as she tried to think of the moment, her flying through the air, aiming her weapon at the crowd, through what she knew to be Naruto's shadow clone, seeing his pleading face as he watched in horror of what she was about to do.

She supposed she had miscalculated Mondatta's position, imagining him to be far more in his car than he had been. It had been the security details' fault. They were the foolish lot, people who thought that bringing her desired target through the crowd instead of into the building would help stop her from them. Seriously, did they think she was a common shooter, just barely able to hold their own pistol as they showed up spontaneously at a press rally; she wasn't that foolish.

There was no way in her mind that she could surmise why exactly she had missed, if she had missed at all.

Her mission had been done; Talon had gotten what they had needed.

"You've been rather distant as of late."

"By your design."

"Pondering anything unusual? Dangerous perhaps?"

Several ways of killing this woman, torture, dismemberment, of the 502 ways she had been taught to kill someone, she could name several ways she wanted to end her. But of course, she would keep that to herself…

"No. Never," she answered fluently, not hesitating for a second.

Moria smirked, as if she knew what she was planning, though she knew Widowmaker didn't have the gall to go through with it. Not now, not yet. "Very well then, you are dismissed, you may go now…" that was the reward she had been given.

Widowmaker nodded, getting off the table, as she got ready to head out the door.

Moria's voice stopped her as she was about to exit to her room, "Oh, and…"

The woman formerly known as Amelie Lacroix stopped, right before she reached the exit, leaving her back to the woman.

"The Overwatch member whom you encountered during your mission in King's Row, it was Naruto, was it not?" Moria questioned knowingly. "It was to my understanding that you have quite the history together…"

Widow eyed the woman behind her, glaring towards her as the woman smirked. "He means nothing to me. You ensured that."

"Good," that alone seemed satisfactory. "We wouldn't want you dredging up old memories, would we?... Though perhaps we could use your connection to him. Do you think you can dispose of him, much like you did Gerard, Lacroix?"

"..."

"I'm leaving," Widowmaker told the woman, not a hint of emotion in her voice.

But for the slightest of moments, barely perceptible to the untrained eye, one could see her fingers tense slightly, for reasons even she did not know.

XXX

The wind howled around her, flowing with a mighty rage.

She was at her ancestral home, the Château Guillard, near the city of Annecy, or rather, she was near the city, in the countryside. Where both she and Gerard had grown up during their childhood.

It was where his body lay, buried amongst his people. That was what he would have wanted, not to be buried grandly, not to have a grand funeral for his years of service for the Government organization, Overwatch.

She visited the grave from time to time, though it had been years since she had come to see him.

She had been the one to kill him, after all.

Though perhaps he would forgive her, he was the foolish sort like that.

They had met when they were young, both of their families coming from nobility, and they had been betrothed. It had taken some time, but they had fallen in love, marrying at a young age. Gerard had gone into the military, and she had been his dutiful wife, there in their home. It had been a peaceful life, quiet.

Because of Gerard's work at Overwatch, being heavily involved in the anti-Talon operations, and having distinct ties to the former Blackwatch division of Overwatch, led by Gabriel Reyes. He was, of course, a target of great distinction, though they could never catch him, they could never kill him. All the assassins they had sent had failed, which only led Gerard even closer to Talon; he had been in a position where he could have actually exposed them to the world.

He had been too smart, too headstrong, too cunning.

He needed to die.

So they chose his only weakness… her.

Gerard always had a soft spot for her, and given what she knew, she was a perfect target for them. So they kidnapped her, using all sorts of methods to brainwash her and insert their doctrine into her as a sleeper agent. Even she did not know what she would do.

After she had recovered after Talon had purposely leaked where they had been keeping her, she had been rescued. Taken back home.

Of course, Overwatch had been suspicious; she had been in the clutches of Talon for many months, perhaps over a year, and they had done what with her? Why had they kept her alive? There had to be some reason.

Of course, that had been found out not three weeks later when Gerard had been killed in his sleep, by her own hand.

She had been his assassin, her programming activated as she had done what she had been assigned to do. Being taken back to Talon to be experimented on, they had seen potential with her, and she had more than met their potential.

Enhancing her body, turning her into the ultimate sniper.

What she was now.

They suppressed her emotions, rescinding everything that once made her Amelie Lacroix.

Now she was Agent Widowmaker. And that was all that she would ever be…

Of course, that did not stop the memories from being inside her, of what she formerly was. She supposed that was the only solace that she could gain in this tempestuous life.

The sound of footsteps echoed, as crushing leaves sounded in the distance, walking next to her as she stood in front of the gravestone that read 'Gerard Lecroix.'

"How did you find me… Naruto." Her voice sounded.

She didn't even have to turn to look to see it was him; she knew it was him, and had heard him for some time

Though not in a million years did she suspect that he would find her here. This was a secure location, one that not even the top brass of Talon knew about. Overwatch had ensured as such. Marking a false grave in the heart of Zurich, Switzerland, the former base of the global organization before it was destroyed.

It had taken her years to find out where his actual body was, and even then, it had been hiding in plain sight. This was where they grew up, this is where they married, this is where they lived… of course, he would be buried where he wanted most.

"I have an apartment about two blocks away, not many people go out to this cemetery, especially to visit this grave…" Naruto told her.

Finally seeing her since the incident, not getting a clear view of her in the darkness that night…

She looked normal— as Normal as one could be, given the fact that her skin was entirely blue. Widow wore winter clothing, even though it was only late fall, though, he supposed, given her condition, she had all the more reason to try and keep warm under the weather.

Her blue hair was slicked back, and atop her head was a tall, white barrette. A white coat that covered her body, made of cloth, as well as a back dress that showed at the bottom. She wore dark shoes and pure black stockings that covered her legs from the wind.

Overall, she looked… homely.

Much like the Amelie Lacroix he once knew, though he could tell that she was also entirely different.

The same as him.

A lot had happened since the time they knew each other… so much had changed.

Widowmaker gave a slight nod. Right, of course, knowing her luck, it would merely be random chance that Naruto would show up here on this day and spot her. He had always been the sort of person who was lucky…

It had been that luck that had brought him to her, to them both…

You see, there was one aspect of her story that she neglected to mention, one that in many aspects would be very important.

That was the presence of Naruto. The small little boy that had shown up on their doorstep and had changed everything, and yet nothing all the same…

She had found him in the garden of their home, badly injured and clinging to life, several years ago, when she had just entered her marriage. Immediately, Gerard came to help him, calling in a medical team to examine him. They had found that he had been in a tremendous battle, with several cuts and bruises littering his body… and a hole in his chest that went all the way through.

It was as if he had been cut by lightning, with several crackling burns running along him in an erratic pattern. Nobody would survive what he did, likely not even the great John Francis Morrison. But even still, he clung to life…

She had been at his bedside when he had woken up, like a corpse clutching at her arm, ready to devour her. Though, of course, things hadn't been that theatrical.

It had taken some time— time which they had in spades given his extended recovery, but they had found out his name. He spoke Japanese, though in a more archaic and historical tone than the modern dialect.

Naruto Uzumaki, he called himself.

The boy from another world.

He was a young boy, about thirteen in years, though she and Gerard could both see he was a man in many ways. A child soldier, and one who could never quite recover his innocence.

They had grown close when he had been in the hospital, as she began to teach him the ways of the world, their languages, everything that they could do to prepare him for his new life, given even though they knew that the likelihood of him returning to his home was slim.

Apparently, he had been on a retrieval mission of some sort, one where he had been betrayed by a comrade, and she had felt sorry for him. Ironic, given what she would do to him later in life.

Nevertheless, she had become somewhat of an older sister figure to him, to the boy who was merely half a decade or so her junior, and Gerard had become an older brother. Naturally that when he had been discharged, they allowed the young lost boy to live with them. They had been happy.

And over the course of the years that followed, Naruto would take up Gerard's work, becoming the youngest Overwatch member in history, even younger than the Ace-pilot Lena Oxton. With his powers, chakra, as he called it, he had been useful and saved many lives— especially with that cloning power of his.

Now that she looked at him, she could see that he had changed—that she had changed him.

He was a man now— or perhaps he always had been. He had grown taller than her in the years she hadn't seen him; she hadn't quite noticed in King's Row, though, given the darkness and all the fighting, she supposed she had a good excuse.

But the biggest change was his eyes, those bright blue orbs she cherished so.

They had been so bright then, so full of life, so… young.

She had been the one to take that from him.

He was barren of the tactical getup that she had seen him in that night as well, now merely wearing a simple orange jacket with grey sweatpants, like he had just gotten back from the gym or thrown the clothes on haphazardly in his haste to get here… she supposed he did always have a thing for orange, such a unruly color for an unruly boy. Though she supposed it looked good on him.

He looked handsome, all things considered. Any woman would be likely to have him. She wondered, idly, if he had someone in his life like that.

"I expected you would be here one day, though, I didn't expect today of all days to be when I'd see you again," he spoke, breaking her out of her thoughts. "You know, you really did a number on me, my back is killing me… did you really have to throw me off the edge of a building?" the blonde somewhat complained, reaching for his back in mock pain, trying to lighten the mood.

She merely looked at him with a flat gaze, "Naruto, did you merely come to complain about your poor back problems?"

"Right, right," Naruto said placatingly, jokes weren't really on the table, before he stood next to her, right in front of Gerard's gravestone.

"You know, I come here quite often, he's always been quite the listener, I bring him roses— remember they were always his favorite?" Widow nodded silently, of course, she remembered they were his favorite.

"Though, mostly what I talk about is my regret…" Naruto told her honestly.

"What do you have to regret?" she asked him, and he answered.

"Alot of things, some parts what I couldn't do in my homeworld, the fact that I couldn't save Overwatch from falling apart. Though I think the most I regret… is you."

"You should not blame yourself; it is foolish to think that what I have become is your fault," she spoke simply.

But Naruto disagreed, "Isn't it, though? I was the one supposed to protect you the day that you were kidnapped. I was the one who was supposed to keep you safe… if I had just been stronger, maybe Gerard would still be alive today," he admitted with a shaking fist.

It had been Naruto assigned to protect her the day she had been kidnapped; she had been on a diplomatic mission, trying to move herself to one of the countries that hadn't quite accepted Overwatch into their country. It had been something that Amelie had done from time to time, acting as a diplomat and using her noble upbringing as a way to ensure Overwatch's proceedings worked smoothly.

They had gone smoothly, and Amelie had made so real headway… that was until they had been attacked.

Naruto had fought 3 of Talon's elite agents, had dispatched two of them as the other turned tail, but when he returned to Amelie's side, he found that she was nowhere to be seen.

When he returned to Annecy, seeing Gerard's face when he had returned without his wife was one of the worst moments of his life, even worse than when he had been told about Hiruzen's death oh so long ago. And yet, he didn't blame him; he didn't fault him for not being able to protect her.

That only caused him to agonize even more.

He blamed himself for allowing Amelie to be captured.

And that blame carried over, even now.

He blamed himself for what Amelie had become.

"You do not need to torment yourself, my actions are my own, not yours," Widowmaker told him.

She was the one to kill Gerard, not him. She was the assassin; she had taken countless lives, whereas Naruto had done nothing but save people. If anyone should be the one in agony, it only made sense that it would be her.

"Do you hate me?" she asked him.

She would understand his hate. After all, she had betrayed him, just like all the others. He deserved to hate her; that was the only solace she could give in this situation.

Naruto balled his fist even more at the thought. Did he hate her? Did he feel the unquenchable desire for revenge even after all these years? Was that why he had done what he had done, why he had spent so long trying to track Amelie down again? Well…

"I did, for the longest time, I hated you. I resented the fact that you killed Gerard, that you left the way you did. But as time passed, I couldn't despise you. Because I knew that despite all you could say, the Amelie Lacroix I once knew is still in there…" He had seen as much in the night of Mondatta's failed assassination. Despite all she believed, despite all that had happened to her, there was still a flicker of humanity in her eyes. Of what she once was, he could still see it in her, even if she didn't think that part of her was alive.

"Then you are an even greater fool than I had thought…"

"Now wait a minute—!" Naruto rounded on his body, reaching up to clutch at her shoulder.

Immediately, her Talon training kicked in, as she grabbed his arm, forcibly stopping herself from using it to flip him over and killing him.

"What do you plan to do, petit garçon idiot? (Foolish little boy?)" She asked with narrowed eyes.

"I made a promise to Gerard when we found you again, and that was that I would protect you no matter what… even if it cost me my life. And I don't plan on going back on that now," he told her.

Right, he had always been the type to keep his promises. His 'Ninja way,' as he called it. He had always been the trusting type, always the type to try and save others; didn't he care about his own well-being? She supposed he was much like Gerard in that fashion.

He was a fool, just like he had been.

…And that would only get him killed one day.

"You would do well to give up me, to go back to your home and forget you ever saw me. Mondatta is alive, relish in that fact," she merely told him, wrestling from his grip, as she tried to walk away.

Just as easily as Naruto stopped her, grabbing her hand, as she fought back her instincts to protest, stopping in her place.

"I don't think I can do that… I just don't, Amelie. No matter what you say, I can still tell you're still in there, even if you don't believe me…"

She kept her back to him, even as he held onto her palm. Her fingers were soft, all things considered, not something he would expect from a top-ranking assassin.

"You always were a good person… perhaps too good."

If it had been anyone else, anyone at all, she would have threatened them, shot them, murdered them, if they called her that name. But not him— never him. She had already wounded one of the people she loved; she couldn't go through that a second time.

"I just don't want you to be hurting again. I don't want you to be alone anymore. You might hide it well from everyone, but not from me. I can see that you are more than the emotionless machine that Talon forced you to be…"

"Then you are a fool."

"I'd rather be a fool than allow you to be in such pain…" Naruto smiled towards her, as she caught a glimpse of it, his smile as bright as the sun. "I can't kill you. I can't hate you, no matter how much I've tried… I just can't…" he told her.

"I'll kill you, just like I did Gerard. He trusted me, too, you see where he ended up…" she still told him, trying to get him to forget about her.

He should just forget about her.

Things would just be so much better if he just did.

"Then I suppose I'll die, satisfied, knowing I did all I could to help you. I don't want to live in a world of regret anymore, and I don't think you should either…"

… Her response was Naruto wrapping his arms around her body, his head at the nook of her neck, just like she had done to him all those years ago to comfort him— how the tables had turned.

The Widow froze, not being able to react to his words.

Such vigor, such passion…

He was like the sun.

Shining so far away, and yet he was so close…

Her only source of warmth in this desolate world.

"Idiot…" she couldn't help but say.

Her heart aching.

Didn't he understand he was being foolish? Didn't he understand that he would only end up getting hurt one day if he stayed by her side?

She destroyed all that came near her; she left broken homes, families shattered, that had been her alias, her identity…

Widowmaker.

That was who she was, a fitting name, given she killed her own husband. Killing men who would no longer go back to their wives, to their children. She had killed hundreds, even thousands. She did not deserve salvation for her crimes, and yet…

"I'm sorry, I just can't give up on you, Amelie…" He whispered to her softly.

He called her by her name.

The name she went by so long ago.

Surrounded by revieries long since forgotten, she could not deny his brightness.

He was stubborn, unbearingly so, and loud and brash… so much of him reminded her of Gerard.

And yet he was also different.

He was bright, but dwindling, broken, much like her… perhaps there might be hope for them yet.

She looked towards him, her yellow eyes peering at him in her peripheral vision at the crook of her neck.

"You presume I am a lonely woman. You presume that I am still who I once was, that there is still a shred of good in me, even after so long. Well, let me ask you… Are you prepared to take responsibility if your assumptions are true?"

She eyed him like a predator, like an evil of the night. It was a sinner's gaze, one that told of a thousand misdeeds and all her guilt. She told it all in her look.

She was not a woman who was innocent no longer.

And yet…

Naruto just couldn't let her go, even if Amelie wasn't in there, if he was wrong… he supposed they both would be damned.

Nodding his head, eyeing her with determination. "Of course."

He would follow her into the pits of hell if he had to. He just couldn't let her be alone again, swallowed up in that deep void. He hated her, but he also care for her so. Such a troublesome woman she had gotten himself mixed up with.

Such was the price of bonds, of having someone precious. He supposed Haku was right in that regard; if it meant serving his precious person, he would even give his own life.

As she turned towards him, just then, a slight flicker appeared in those dark eyes of hers, so dangerous, so full of darkness, sparked with the faintest of life.

He was a good man, a good, stupid man… though perhaps, she wouldn't mind allowing herself to care for another fool like him.

Slowly but surely, she leaned up to him.

Perhaps in the spur of the moment, perhaps it was something else, even she did not know. But something compelled her to lie in his closeness.

Reaching up as her lips met his own.

He did not reciprocate her kiss, though that was not to say he rejected her.

Surprised was the right way to put it.

If he were being honest with himself, a part of him had always been in love with Amelie Lacroix. After all, how could he not? She was the one to find him on death's door. His angel. The one to help introduce him to his new life when he knew no one. She was beautiful and refined, offering the one thing he could ever ask for: a family. So, of course, he couldn't help but love her.

Though that was not to say that he was jealous of her relationship with Gerard, no, he could never be jealous of the man who treated him with kindness and consideration. He had seen him, actually valuing him as a person, rather than seeing him for what he held.

He could never hate the man.

He had merely been content with loving the woman from the sidelines.

Never in a million years did he think that she would actually kiss him.

Her lips were soft, smooth, tender. She was a bit colder than expected, though warmer than he would have guessed. It was an odd sensation, pleasant.

Electricity coursed through his veins as he reciprocated the kiss.

He could feel her warm breath on the top of his lips, pleasure filling their senses as he inched closer, wrapping his arms around her waist to steady them both, as he reached further into her.

A slight moan escaping her lips was all he needed in affirmative, as he felt a fire engulf him.

He wanted her, and she wanted him.

Though as quickly as their kiss came, it went, leaving him thoroughly unsatisfied.

A bitterness washed over him, though not for long.

As she merely asked him… "How far away is your apartment?"

He smiled; perhaps the day was yet to turn uneventful.

[Lemon Start]

Sure enough, it was not but a five-minute walk from the graveyard, though their fire did not dwindle. Finally making it into Naruto's apartment, it was small, a bit cramped, perfect for a single person or even two given there was a spare bedroom.

Although they didn't have time to explore the scenery, as soon as Naruto got the door open, Widow was upon him, like a hunter her prey...

[Lemon End.]

Both of them were exhausted, leaving a layer of sweat all along each other's bodies, the two rolling into Naruto's covers, both lying across their backs. Their heat was dying down in the darkness.

A tiredness overcame Naruto as he looked at Amelie, the coldness of the night seeping into his skin. He watched the rising and falling of Amelie's chest, her torso being the only part of her body not covered by his bed cover, leaving her chest exposed. He could see her protruding nipples, as well as her supple bosom, and the smoothness of her skin.

He felt a tightness in his chest, even in his drowsiness.

Perhaps it was the events of the day, the mixed feelings of emotions, the fatigue of the years the two had been away. But either way, he knew beyond a shadow of a doubt…

"Think I'm in love with you… I think I always have been," he said in but a whisper.

It had been the source of his turmoil all these years, perhaps the reason he was so hard on himself, the reason he tried to find her so much.

He wasn't a benevolent man, despite what others might think.

He fell in love with a married woman who helped him so, and despite his contention, he couldn't help himself. The heart wanted what it wanted, he supposed. Even if he cared for Gerard like a brother, he just…

He just needed her to know that.

That despite everything, despite his trying to hate her, he couldn't. Because he could never forget the woman whom he loved.

But Amelie—widowmaker heard his words, and despite her own tiredness… she couldn't keep his words from her mind.

XXX

As the hours passed, Amelie couldn't stop herself from thinking, even in the darkness of the night, her mind wandered.

Reflecting upon the past, the present, and who she was now, and most importantly… the future.

She thought about what had happened that night, all the things that she said, and what Naruto had told her.

All of her thoughts revolved around one thing… him.

The troublesome young blonde who had plagued her mind for so long.

He mentioned he loved her.

Her…

Things were never supposed to be this way. She was never supposed to bring herself into this life again. Though perhaps she didn't deny him; her mind wavering in the spur of the moment, her will gave way, and she hungered for his warmth.

And now she couldn't stop thinking about him. About her, and what she had done to him.

As she lay awake in the long hours of the night, she was only listening to Naruto's own shallow breathing as a source of guilty comfort. Her golden eyes were tracing over to him more times than she could count.

Idly, she reached out to him, lightly grazing his cheek, rubbing her thumb across his whisker-like markings, something she always found cute about him. Even now, he leaned into her touch, feeling the softness of her skin as his mind drifted in her sleep.

Despite all she had done to him, he still cared for her, and that hurt her even more so.

She could feel her instincts call out to him, her Talon training— her brainwashing, screaming out to her.

They wanted her to kill him.

He was a former Overwatch member, and surely one of their most powerful, the boy from another world. Even when he was just starting up, Talon had feared him, and now that he had gone underground for almost eight years since Overwatch's disbandment, he was likely even more powerful. Her training told him to kill him; he was so vulnerable, so open. He trusted her fully, but that would not stop her. He was weak, foolish to lie with her, to trust her again…

And yet she stopped herself, resisting her programming.

As her eyes wandered down to his exposed chest, she looked at the large scar at the center of his torso. It was faint, barely noticeable to the point she hadn't even seen it when she was first looking at him during their lovemaking. But now it was all too clear to her, and despite all this time, it was a wound he still carried.

He had been betrayed by his friend. Struck straight through his chest and left in a state that he only barely survived…

And she had done the same.

Betraying him when he needed her most all those years ago.

She changed. She was forced to change. And yet he still saw her for who she was, who he once trusted.

He loved her.

That thought only made her feel even more guilty.

Eventually, she found her footing, rising from the bed carefully, so as not to wake her blonde lover.

She took hold of one of his white shirts that was scattered about to cover herself from her lack of warmth. The shirt was oversized compared to her smaller frame and torso, as her luxurious blue locks flowed down in waves— the woman having lost her hair tie somewhere in their lovemaking.

She was careful not to wake the blonde, using her training and years as a ruthless assassin to sneak away from his bedside without a peep.

Her small feet carried her as she explored Naruto's apartment.

It would be so easy to leave right now, to go out his door, and they would never see each other again— he would never see her again. She would be away from his life and with her the memories. All the pain she had given him, the betrayal.

Things would be better that way.

She would be away from him. She wouldn't hurt him any longer.

It sounded so easy; she would protect him from her. Making it so that he wouldn't end up the same as Gerard.

He deserved someone better than her.

A Widowmaker.

A terrorist, a nasty woman who was broken beyond repair.

He should feel happy with someone who could give him the joy he deserved.

She would leave, and he would be hurt. But in that last act of betrayal, he would be alive and well.

That would be all the solace she could give him.

She looked at the door to the hallway. It would be so easy to head out the door, to leave him forever.

Surely it would be the right thing to do in the long run…

Another door caught her sight, in the hallway, one that was partially cracked open, revealing a small, almost infinitesimal light from the other side. She crept over to, slowly, as if in a trance. A part of her called out to visit this room, that if she did leave, she should at least see what was within.

She could leave in just a few minutes, her curiosity satiated.

Creeping her hand over towards the bronze door handle, she moved the white painted wooden door. She could see that Naruto had left one of the lamps turned on, explaining the illumination of the room and what lay within.

The room was small, cramped even, with several strewn about books and papers, as well as numerous boards filled with photos and news articles, mapping out what lay on top.

She realized what this was, photos of her lying on top of some of the boards—of Widowmaker. And not just her, but all of Talon, of Moria, of the elusive Sombra, as well as other agents. All with sites and locations they had a hand in over the number of years.

He had been tracking them— tracking her.

Doing the work of Overwatch even after they had disbanded. He could not stop their fall, the United Nations deciding that the program was no longer worth supporting after their main headquarters had fallen, with Jack Morrison and Gabriel Reyes' elusive fallout in the wake of the war with the omnics.

Over the years, he had been keeping tabs on them, trying to uncover their activities and bring them to light. Perhaps he had been hopeful, with foolish optimism that he could one day bring back Overwatch as the world's protectors.

She also saw a small wooden desk within the room, with a chair that was slightly pulled out, several papers left strewn about, as well as a laptop, with photos of King's Row, her latest mission. And from what she could tell, he had been researching the mission for months, predicting where she would be and who would be her next target. Analyzing her latest kills and predicting where she would be. Sure enough, he had been right; that was how he had found him.

He was good, how he had gathered all the intel she did not know.

Although from what she could recall, he was the apprentice of his village's spy master, albeit briefly. She supposed that might have helped him in this regard.

She could tell he was dangerous. With all the information he had gathered about her organization, she knew he would only be troublesome in the future.

Her instincts screamed out to her to take him out. To kill him once again, all thorns would be dealt with, and all loose ends would be taken care of… and yet she suppressed them, despite how hard it was.

The woman trailed her finger on the desk, and she could imagine all the sleepless nights he had spent on this chair, researching in the deep hours of the night until exhaustion. She could see him resting on the desk, too tired to head to his bed as drowsiness had taken him over.

She laughed at that thought lightly. He was always the type to overwork himself, even from his own world. She could remember his stories, tales of him telling her of how he climbed a tree without any arm movements. How he had worked so hard while his teammates seemed to have little trouble with it. Eventually, he was left too exhausted to carry himself back to the house he had been staying at, and he fell asleep straight onto the grass.

He always was stubborn like that, too stubborn for his own good.

As her gaze turned towards a picture frame off to the side on his desk, of a photo that was familiar to her.

Widow's breath hitched. Because the picture was of her. Her and Naruto— the old her, the Amelie Lacroix she had once been, with her skin paler and her hair more of a darker black. She remembered this day because it had been the day Naruto had been inducted into Overwatch. Naruto, too, was younger back then, being around the age of sixteen when he first joined, as he was smiling as bright as the sun. His grin was wide, as his eyes were closed, and she got the distinct impression of a grinning fox. Even though she was smiling back then, his mood was infectious as the two smiled at the camera as they stood in front of the former Overwatch headquarters in Switzerland.

It had been a happy time, and they were happy.

A tightness in her heart ached her, for reasons only she knew.

She had thought she wasn't supposed to feel this way, that being the ultimate cold-blooded assassin, she would lose the pain she felt, but that wasn't so.

Her emotions subsided, of course, but not the memories… the feelings she had felt back then.

The grief, the agony were all too present without any of the happiness to suppress them.

That was why she was cold-blooded.

It was like a person who had lost their eyesight in adulthood; sure, they could no longer see things the way they once had. But their recollection still remained; they could still imagine based on their memories.

She still held her recollection of happiness, of better times, and of her own morals that had been taken away… that was why it hurt so much.

It was like she was entirely numb and unfeeling, and yet she knew there was a knife at her heart that was cutting open her insides. Worse than any torture she had ever received.

That was why she was so cold.

Left staring at the photo for what felt like an eternity, although it was likely only a few minutes.

A voice responded, as if hearing her turmoil…

"I remember that day as if it were yesterday..." It was Naruto's voice as he walked into the room, now wearing a pair of shorts to cover his body, leaving his chest exposed.

As strong arms wrapped around her neck, she felt his warmth, even as her instinct wanted her to strike at him for getting so close to her, though she resisted. Barely acknowledging him in his touch.

"I had joined Overwatch officially that day after Gerard's insistence, though it felt like I had been a member for a while, since I already met everyone there." He had grown accustomed to the team after they had investigated his spontaneous appearance, but after they had analyzed that he wasn't a threat, the agents had warmed up to him. Before they had known it, they had become comrades for him in this lost world.

He and Amelie had decided to take a picture of the day, Gerard taking the photo as the two smiled at Naruto's accomplishment.

He would later come into being one of the most famous heroes in modern history. Helping people all around the world, he still helped people, though it was mostly by sending his clones throughout the world and in henges as they helped people whenever they could.

Amelie smirked at that, "Perhaps, though all I remember is the drinking party you went to after your ceremony with Lindholmand Reinhardt. How you vomited for hours after they convinced you to have your first drinks," she said snarkily.

Naruto laughed at the memory. "Hey, hey, it wasn't my idea to try alcohol that night, but it was Rein's idea, and after he found out I could probably drink more than him, he and Torb started a drinking contest with the three of us, and, well… you know how that turned out."

She did. Gerard and she had to carry the blonde home after his first bout of drinking; needless to say, it was an eventful one.

Though eventually she reined herself in, Naruto always had the ability to remind her of lost memories, which was why it hurt so much to be with him.

"You should not be here," she told him, eyeing him with her golden orbs.

It would be so much easier if he were asleep; that way, she could leave without him ever noticing. Why did he have to make this so difficult? He always was the stubborn type.

"Oh yeah, and why shouldn't I be? Why shouldn't I be here when obviously the person I care about needs me?" He questioned. He had a feeling things would turn out this way, though he would say that he was lucky to have woken up when he had. Waking up in a bed full of her fading warmth.

Alone.

He didn't want to feel that way again.

"You should not care about me."

"But I do…" Naruto told her, running his hand soothingly down her purple locks, she leaned into her touch.

"I'm not the same Amelie Lacroix from back then," she tried to argue.

"I don't care, we've been through this little dance before. Are you really going to say that again?" he questioned, leaning down to nibble at her earlobe tenderly, as he began to lay kisses down her neck.

"I might kill you."

"You won't."

"You might die just like Gerard."

"I won't."

"I might poison your tea the next time you drink it."

Naruto paused in his trail, having to actually think about that one. "I… I probably would be okay with the fox in my gut; you saw how well your poisons do against me," he reasoned.

A small smile formed across her lips, "You always were a stubborn boy."

The blonde nodded, "Yup, I'm the number one most unpredictable knucklehead ninja, remember?"

As Naruto continued to kiss along her neck, reaching her collarbone, he found she was particularly sensitive there.

Widow's breath hitched, "gasp!... you're trying to seduce me," she pointed out.

"Yeah, and you threw me off a building, so I don't think you're quite right in the morals department," he quipped, as he continued to adore her body. "... Is it working?"

"It might be…" she said with a moan, her walls slowly coming away with his presence.

Before Naruto stopped, as Amelie felt a distinct wanting, no small part of her wanted him to continue.

"I did mean what I said… I really do love you, I always have," he told her, and she heard it.

Amelie found a dryness in her throat at that moment; it was odd to her. She was used to choking, but here this sensation was odd to her, as she was at a loss for words, unable to speak.

It was odd; he always did have this sort of effect on her. Always having a way with his words.

"Look, I don't want to replace Gerard, Kami knows I was close to him too, but I just don't want you to be hurt again— to be broken anymore…"

He turned her around to face her, eyeing him with his blue orbs that seemed to pierce into her soul, her cold yellow eyes staring into him.

"I know the woman I love is still in there, and I know you'll be just fine," he told her.

"Then you are a fool," she simply told him.

As he began cupping her chin, she did not protest. "Maybe, but I'm your fool..." he said with a smile.

Taking her into a heated kiss, one that conveyed all his love, all his passion, all his kindness… his hope.

He unloaded it all. Different from the other kisses she had been given, yet all the same.

He was always so bright, so sunny, to the point it was overwhelming.

Amelie wasn't sure who pulled back, or even how long the kiss was, as she soon found her head on his chest, listening to her heartbeat. She leaned into his touch, his body being the only sense of warmth she could gain from the cold she felt in her heart.

He really was her light in the darkness.

Naruto ran his hand through her hair soothingly. She found the gesture relaxing, as her breathing slowed. She felt like she could be there for hours, losing track of time.

"Come on, do you want to go back to bed?" he asked her, breaking.

A small smile overtook the woman; he always found her smile beautiful. As the woman finally found her voice again…

"Very well… Ma Chérie (My darling)."_______________________________________________________________

When she was a girl, she had a fear of spiders…

She was told that they felt no emotions, that their hearts did not beat.

But she knew the truth…

Perhaps she was wrong.

The End.

An: Alright, decided to go with a bit of a happy ending this time. Decided to give Widow a bit more emotions, but given the circumstances I'll give myself a pass.

Translations were done through Google translate, if any of you french speaking people out there want to correct me in my language you can PM me.

Special thanks to all the friends I have over on discord who really helped me out when coming up with this fic.

I'm honestly not sure why I decided to do this one. Overwatch was one of those games I didn't play too often, definitely not now. But I remember watching my older brother play a lot and he was pretty good at the first game way back when. (Sadly I lost my account due to the blizzard account purges and haven't been able to get it back).

I tried to keep up with some of the lore though I don't know too much of the new characters.

I enjoy playing Rivals a bit more ;p

Widowmaker in my opinion seemed like an interesting choice and she's decidedly lacking in Naruto fics. She's definitely one of OW's most beautiful characters and I hope I expressed that.

Her lore is seated in tragedy, and the contention of her being redeemable is up in the air. But I think Naruto is the one for the job.

Honestly when I started this I wasn't sure how to end it.

The endings I thought of were:

1- Bad ending: Naruto wakes up and she is no longer there and he is alone.

2- Good end: Naruto wakes up and she's still with him.

3- Bittersweet end: Naruto wakes up and she is gone, leaving a message of where he may find her.

4- True end: Naruto wakes up just in time to stop her from leaving.

Obviously I went with option 4.

Additionally this had a lemon in it with 6.5k words long. I'm still getting used to them but I hope you enjoyed it.

Amelie was a joy to write, and if you want to see more with OW let me know, I may have something planned and will take suggestions.
