My Soda Pop - Chapter 1
"Look! It's them!" The people shouted, yelling and pointing their cameras towards the sky, watching as three 'comets' began to strike down upon the earth, hurtling from the sky. Like the very stars that they were, because they were stars.
Many onlookers in the crowd screamed, as thousands of them were lodged into Seoul stadium, filling the maximum capacity of over 66 thousand, and they would've been able to do better.
Because this was the stadium for the end of the World Tour for the global K-pop singing sensation, HUNTR/X, which had paraded all around the Earth singing their songs and unleashing their music around the planet. Their popularity is immense, and in Korea, they were undoubtedly the top band in the country, winning the nation's Idol Awards every year since their debut five years ago, and capturing each one of their fans' hearts ever since their first single.
Crashing upon their stage in a rise of smoke, their figures larger than life as their three silhouettes showed brightly.
A set of strange red figures in what appeared to be elaborate make-up and body modifications crashed upon the stage as well. The group slamming various 'weapons' upon them, as they burst into dust and sparkles, the crowd loving every second of it.
As their figures are now visible, everyone caught sight of the familiar faces they came here for; none could be happier.
You had the first member, wielding her large, spear-like weapon with a curved sword-like blade on its end, which was also called a Gok-do, slashing down upon the demon-looking entity. She had bright pink-raspberry hair styled in half pigtails, stark brown eyes, and bolded makeup. Her face was angular, holding a defined jawline and intense gaze as she had a slender build, though she was the tallest among her group at 169 cm (5'6), holding the fiercest attitude. Wearing an outfit that consisted of a yellow jean skirt, black and pink stockings, and a black crop top with a hot pink and blue graphic design that showed off her personality as a rebel, as well as her love for fashion design.
This was Mira, the 'problem child' as she was known, the lead dancer and choreographer of the group.
The second 'hunter' was a much shorter woman of the group, being 154cm (5'0) with a more traditional Korean appearance, with her black locks braided in twin buns with micro-bangs and fringe locks. She had light brown eyes, freckles, and a heart-shaped face, with pink lips. She decided to wear more sparkly makeup on her face; wearing an outfit that consisted of a set of navy and yellow baggy parachute pants and high tops, with a teal halter top with a black leather strap around her neck.
She was the youngest of the group (about 22 years in age), a few years younger than the two other members, and labeled the 'makane,' the term used to designate the youngest in a K-pop group in the Korean language.
This was Zoey, the lead rapper of the group, and a rather childish acting young woman, often called the cutest within the group. As she wielded a set of throwing daggers, she usually carried a set of three within each of her hands.
The last was a woman of similar age to Mira, about 24 years old, with unique purple hair styled in a long dragon braid that reached down all the way to her calves. She was rather pretty, with a heart-shaped face, dark eyebrows, brown eyes, and pale skin. Wearing an outfit that consisted of a pair of black boots and short shorts, a pink belt, a white crop-top with a large collar, and a leather yellow designer jacket that covered the entirety of her arms.
She wielded a sword and knew how to use it, being the leader of the group, as well as the main vocalist. Being 'Popstar Royalty,' especially given the fact that her mother was a popular K-pop star before she tragically perished when she was young. Being raised by her aunt, who was also a star, and shown the roots of their family business.
Because you see, she and her friends weren't just K-pop stars, but in actuality, they were also Demon Hunters, warriors that existed to fuel the Honmoon, the source of their power that was fueled by their song. A powerful barrier that kept the whole world safe from the demons they faced, at the expense of the energy gathered from the loyalty and cheer of their fans. Giving life to their belief as they gained the strength to combat the creatures of darkness, trying to save the entire world.
Even now, those same forces were active, trying to stop their biggest show yet. And having taken control and destroyed their own private jet, while they were still in it, mind you, in an attempt to stop their journey to their final show. Of course, it was all for naught, the group flying through the air and crashing down into the stage, much to the surprise of all those who watched them. Thinking it part of their show, as they reveled in such majesty.
Taking down all the demons in the area, as the crowd cheered as they sang. First it was Mira, with her fiery attitude, then it was Zoey, with her fierce, aggressive rapping. As they all stood in a line, walking in perfect sync. The spotlight on Rumi, as she did her own solo:
"Hear our voice unwavering!
'Til our song defeats the night!
Makin' fear afraid to breathe!
'Til the dark meets the light~~~!" She sang, now being backed by her two companions for the vocals.
(How it's done, done, done)
"Run, run, we run the town (Done, done, done)
Whole world playin' our sound (Done, done, done)
Turnin' up, it's going down (Done, done, done)
HUNTR/X, show this how it's done, done, done!" (x3)
As the crowd was loving it, the group danced just as they had numerous hours before. And they could see their love and admiration forming the blue ray-like formation that was the Honmoon.
But just then, as they were continuing their performance, they all saw it… the Honmoon turned gold in a single area, like a flicker, but it was there. Nearly causing them all to miss a beat, though they retreated into their experience, delivering an end and a beginning to their concert.
"We hunt you down, down, down (Down; Done, done, done)
We got you now, now, now (Got you now)
We show you how, how, how (Show you how)
HUNTR/X, don't miss how it's done, done, DONE!!" (x3)
They vocalized, all of them striking a pose.
The crowd loved all of it.
"AHHHHHHHHHHH!" They all screamed.
XXX
(After the Concert).
With the concert now over, the trio disappeared down to the stadium elevator, to the backstage area, where the group couldn't help but marvel at what they had done.
"Did we just see gold?" Rumi questioned, actually surprised at what they had done.
"Yeah, I can't believe we're doing it…" Mira nodded.
"Eeek! So exciting!" Zoey cheered excitedly, happy that all they had been working towards would finally be accomplished.
"You know what this means, it's time to release the song!" Rumi announced what they had been waiting for for like… forever.
"Yes! It's finally going to turn gold!" Zoey squealed.
"Yes… cough!" Rumi tried to say, before her throat gave out a harsh noise, much to the other's concern.
"Whoa, you okay?" Her other two companions started to grow concerned.
Rumi smiled, trying to quell their care, "What? Yeah, I'm fine, probably just need some water…" she told them, as the elevator stopped.
"Did someone say water?" an asian voice questioned, as the door to the elevator opened, revealing not just a crowd of workers and fans, but a small asian male with dark parted hair and a small mustache. Wearing a grey sharkskin jacket and pants, over which he had a plain white T-shirt with the HUNTR/X logo on it.
"Hi Bobby!" (x3), they all waved.
This was Bobby, the girl's ever-cheerful and responsible idol manager.
"Water, now!" Bobby ordered, as several of the assistants offered a refreshment for Rumi to take in an instant, as she took a sip. Each of them got several pure white cotton bath robes as they walked through the tunnel.
"Wow, what a way to end the world tour! And that Finale with the guy in the demon suit exploding into confetti?" Bobby marveled at his clients, as he said every syllable with his hands as well, ever exuberantly.
"Yeah, those special effects looked amazing!" one of the assistants told them, several others giving Zoey a plate of sushi, while Mira's makeup and nails were well-tailored to.
"Right… 'special effects,'" Mira played along. It wasn't like she was going to tell anyone that they were actually real demons, and their plan had blown up, forcing them to come onto the stage through reentry of the stratosphere.
"This is going to break the bank, but—Oooh! Look at these social numbers, they're off the charts!" Bobby pointed out, now checking his phone to see that HUNTR/X was still the #1 on the global and national leaderboards, so much so that it wasn't even close. "And to celebrate, I booked you a week-long staycation at the fanciest, most exclusive relaxation resort in Korea!" he announced, ever the best for his girls.
"Sorry, Bobby, we already have plans," Mira broke the news to him, much to his shock.
"What! What plans?!" Bobby shouted.
"Yeah, we got the hottest ticket in town…" Zoey said lowly, as she and Mira looked at each other.
"To our couch!~" (x2) They both said together. Cheering "Couch! Couch! Couch!" they celebrated, walking even faster.
Zoey skipped all the way, leaving Rumi to offer Bobby the trip he had been planning for them; after all, he deserved it.
"Couch! Couch! Couch! Couch!" Zoey skipped, moving a little too fast for Mira within the tunnel, getting almost too into the activity.
As the ever exuberant girl had not a care in the world, absent mindedly, she took a hand into her pocket, and stopped in her tracks. Feeling a small object within her pants, something she had never gone without.
Taking out the small object, revealing a beautiful green gemstone necklace with a leather cord, her most prized possession, so much so that she couldn't help but talk to it.
"Can you believe it… I never thought we'd be able to do such a thing!" Zoey whispered in a somber tone, something very uncharacteristic of the girl. "I just wish… wish you were here," she said to the crystal, the last memento she had not-forgotten friend she still held dear. Remembering all the good times they had, as well as the bad ones.
She was so caught in her reverie, she was passed by Mira, as she quickly hid the crystal to prevent the pinkette from seeing it. Her friend noticed this, but chalked it up to another one of Zoey's strange behaviors—thinking it was some sort of turtle charm, she knew her friend always liked those.
"Well… you coming?" Mira spoke up, snapping the girl out of her trance.
"What? Oh yeah, of course!" Zoey said.
"Good, I can't wait for our vacation," Mira sighed, two whole weeks of vacation.
"Yesss… vacation~!" Rumi said, though inside, she was planning something that would no doubt speed up their progress in creating the golden Honmoon.
XXX
While the HUNTR/X trio planned for their long-awaited break—something that would only seem to be cut short by their ever ambitious group leader, dark forces also festered. Planning and scheming in the dark.
As within the demon realm, forces of the great demon lord gathered around him in a group, 'welcoming' back those whose plans had failed to stop their enemies from reaching their world tour concert.
The flight attendant-dressed woman looked on in fear of her plight as her fellow demons watched, creating a path along them, and she was the center of attention, and not for a good reason. As she cowered, walking towards the stairs that would lead to the 'temple' to their lord, the one person any and every demon feared.
Though it would seem her 'lord' was far too impatient for her, which wasn't a good sign. As he took hold of her body through the use of his great power, her demon markings sparked to life, flying up to the being as if she were being carried, kidnapped, and in this case, she was.
Her lord was a great being of purple and pink flames, holding no physical body as he had transcended it, holding little power within the human realm, but absolute power within the demon realm.
"Let me guess… they got away again?" The being spoke to his subordinate, his ethereal fire conjured into the shape not unlike a mouth— a giant mouth, ready to devour anything whole, and he could do just that.
The female demon made herself small, "T-they d-did… the hunters, they're t-too strong." She tried to tell him, tried to explain. Surely she would, surely he could see reason within her; she had not the power, nor the means to take down the Hunters. It wasn't her fault that she had failed, not a reason at all, and surely he could see that.
"Don't worry, I understand," he lord spoke.
As relief washed over the woman, actual relief, her fears satiated, though they were still present, her every fiber knowing of her lord's great power.
"You… You do?" she asked, a bit more hesitantly than she would have liked. But she was shocked, and she could hear the genuineness of his voice.
"I understand that…YOU ARE WEAK!" The demon lord shouted as his flames consumed the demon woman, burning her to ash near instantly. "Pathetic! Useless! ALL OF YOU!" as everyone cowered. They could hear the woman's screams of pain, yet they did nothing to stop it.
They could do nothing to stop it.
"Don't you idiots know? Once the hunters turn the Honmoon gold, it's over for us!" he shouted in anger.
The hunters would sever the ties with their realm and the human one, leaving each and every one of them powerless. Many demons cried at the prospect. What could they do? How could they hope to stop them? They were far too strong for any of them to handle. Surely they would activate the Golden Honmoon eventually; it was only a matter of time; some of the demons cried at the prospect. What hope could they have in the face of oblivion?
Drum!
A single strum was played, loud enough to capture all of their attention, and yet soft enough to enchant everyone's hearts.
"There once was a mighty demon king.~" a voice spoke, as all of them turned, viewing a dark-dressed figure with a black wide gat, shielding its appearance. "Stop me if you've heard this one before," the male shadow spoke, and it was a pleasing voice, one that soothed their ears. As he began to float—actually float! Towards the ground via the use of his powers, strumming his bipa, his Korean lute, and began to sing.
"He was in total control,
He feasted on souls.
The world trembled when he roared.
But then some hunters sang some songs.
Now all he does is starve. Can't get at the souls,
And his flame grows cold.
Just a whisper in the dark…
And will he let the fire go out~?
Is this the end of him now~?
Dying King with a crumbling crown~?
Will he let the fire go out~~?"
"I let you keep that voice, Jinu. And you dare to mock me with it?" his lord said in anger, a fire brimming.
Though the singing figure just smiled, 'Jinu,' as he was named. "I'm not here to mock you, Lord Gwi-ma… I'm here to help you."
As Jinu revealed his handsome face, much more human and beautiful looking than the average ugly demon. Showing off his pale skin and perfect features, generous enough to bewitch any girl.
As he spoke the words that would change the realm forever…
"I want to make a deal."
XXX
Jinu had a plan, a plan that no other demon had ever done before. A plan nobody would expect, and even something that the darkened demon lord Gwi-ma wouldn't have been able to predict.
Because he was smart. Because he recognized, more so than Gwi-ma ever could, the fact that, as of right now, the Hunters were far too powerful. Their influence was too vast, spanning over the entire world; if they wanted to defeat them now, their chances had been sorely lost. They had grown far too powerful for any one-demon to defeat. Even with an irrefutable plan, with all the demons among them, they would be hard-pressed to defeat the hunters in the height of their performance.
After all, they had been the reigning champions for years now, 5 years Gwi-ma's plans to defeat them had gone sour, and with their newfound strength gained, it rendered all battle all but pointless.
Sooner or later, the Golden Honmoon would be active, and with it all hope of entering the earth from the demon realm. That wouldn't do any of them any good, so they needed to stop the hunters from achieving their goals.
But of course, there was the question of how? How might they defeat their near-invincible enemy, who were only getting stronger?
He recognized, you needed to take out the source of their power. Their fans.
After all, it was their fans that gave HUNTR/X life, strength, and the ability they ever so repeatedly used to defeat them. To take at their fans was to take at HUNTR/X themselves, weakening them, making them vulnerable. And when they were vulnerable, that was when they would be able to defeat them. He was good at making things vulnerable.
Of course, he knew that if you were good at anything, you should never do it for free. He might as well get something out of the exchange if he were to go through all of the trouble of defeating HUNTR/X.
But what was his plan? You might ask. Well, it was simple:
If he wanted to get at the hunter's fans, he wouldn't do it through the use of violence, but through their hearts. The same way HUNTR/X had done themselves. And what was more popular than a trio of female idols? Why… a boy band, of course.
And so, he would need to assemble a team, one of not only capable young men, but those who would legitimately be able to aid in his plan. Those with coordination, a well-maintained voice, and good looks to capture the fans' hearts.
He had already found three that would fit the criteria, a singer, dancer, rapper… though he found that might not be enough. Five was the magic number after all, five would complete the formation, after all, with him at the front, their group wouldn't be symmetrical.
But more than that, he needed something else for the band, the perfect idol group. He already had the tall, well-muscled, pink-haired singer, the pretty boy romancer, the young-faced show stopper, but even so, that would enamor all of their fans. No, with everyone around as they were, they would be too transparent. They would end up getting bored, and with boredom, he wouldn't be able to maintain the well-crafted public image he sought that would capture the world for a long time, stealing away all of HUNTR/X's prestige.
No, despite all he had, he needed another element. He needed to add something else; he wanted a man of… mystery.
And he knew just the demon who would fill that role.
Wandering within one of the most desolate areas of the demon realm, alone. He hunted for the male who would quite possibly be the strongest demon— besides Gwi-ma, of course, nobody was ever as strong as Gwi-ma, ever to walk the realm. He stayed largely away from the matters most demons went to, being a loner, much like himself. Though in his isolation, he had heard tales of how he cultivated his demon body, and of his strength, as well as his voice. Surely he would be an aid to his plan, he realized. All he had to do was recruit him.
So he walked, walking towards the mountain of his target, dead trees surrounding him, though he gave not a care.
He already had his plan, and he knew it would be fulfilled. Gwi-ma even supported it. And with it, the memories would be gone, he was sure.
Reaching the top of the mountain, he saw a tall figure, easily one of the tallest demons he had seen within the demon realm. His skin was black and like stone, with large horns, twin blades, red eyes, and muscles that easily eclipsed any other demon.
"Bwahh~!" He gave a mighty roar, except… that wasn't a roar? It was something else, like a cry of pain.
As the large figure fell. Crashing towards the ground in a heap, causing a small uplift of dust as he did so, sorely falling towards the floor into unconsciousness. Revealing several small glowing purple blades embedded into his skin, courtesy of their current 'sparring' partner.
"Wow, dude, I didn't think you'd go down like that? Damn, are you okay, man?" A new voice spoke, as Jinu could see a new figure, one now revealed to him that had been hidden by the large demon's body.
Jinu could see that he was a blonde-haired male—an oddity in the demon realm, considering most were from Eastern Europe; it would seem this person was the exception. Though he had tanned skin, another strange oddity within the demon realm, a rounded face, with strange whisker marks. On his face. His purple demon tattoos ever ever-present at the moment, and while normally his eyes were cerulean blue, they would also flicker to a light glowing yellow, the same as any demon. Currently, he was wearing no shirt, showing off his well-built, though slim, muscles, like that of an Olympic swimmer, as he wore a set of black pants as well. He looked like your average Yankee, though with a bit of Japanese heritage mixed in. He was handsome, in an exotic-looking way, though he was surprised to see another demon with such a human appearance— a testament to his likely greater-than-power as a demon.
Though he didn't look like the ideal Korean Idol, Jinu realized he could work with this.
As the blonde male walked up to the troll-looking demon, pulling his throwing knives out of him—kunai! They appeared to be.
"There? All better, right? You good?" He asked, though he was met with silence. "He's good! He'll walk it off," the male concluded, though Jinu had to question if he was really as 'good' as the male believed.
"I'm… not sure he is," Jinu spoke up, clearing his throat, as the blonde turned towards him.
"So, you finally decided to announce your presence. I could hear you halfway up the mountain. Who are you? What do you want?" His blue eyes flashed into golden yellow, his skin turning rather pale like every other demon he knew. Getting prepared for a possible battle, he raised his weapons into a reverse grip.
Jinu, though, merely raised his hands, trying to placate the male. He wasn't here to fight; he just needed to convey that, "Relax, I'm not looking for any trouble. My name is Jinu… and I'm here to make you an offer."
Recognition flowed into the blonde's eyes, "Oh, so you're the pretty-boy demon I've heard so much about? I thought you'd be taller," he pointed out. He had heard about this man, of course, he had, one of Gwi-Ma's most favored demons. And word spread around— so much so that even he was able to hear about it— that he had conjured a plan so crazy he might just be able to pull it off. Something that would finally be able to take down the hunters.
Jinu flinched a little at the light jab, though he kept his composure. "Yes, well, in truth, I want your skills… I think we can help each other get what we want. Wouldn't that be better for both of us?" He proposed, this was the final member he was looking for, and even now, he could sense, no other demon would do.
The blonde realized what he meant, and surprisingly, he… he smiled. Thinking of the offer, he could only imagine what sort of chaos could occur. "Well now, I can't just leave you hanging, now can I?" he questioned, as his blue eyes started to return. "Name's Naruto, and I think it would be interesting to mess with those hunters a little…
As well as see an old friend."
As such, the deal was made, and a demon boy band was formed.
XXX
(Flashback- 14 years ago)
"Hahaha! Can you believe what she really said?!"
"I mean, look at her! Look at her eyes!"
"I know, she looks so weird!"
"Go on, say it again!"
"Yeah, again!"
In a playground not so long ago, in the city of Burbank, California, stood a group of figures, older school children of various ages, at least three of them, all of whom surrounded a young girl, about eight years of age.
She had dark hair wrapped up in a bun, and bright brown eyes that were on the cusp of tears.
"I just… w-wanted t-to ask if you wanted t-to play with me…" she repeated.
"Ahahaha!" The school children all laughed at the prospect.
"See! It's even funnier the second time!"
"Yeah? Can you believe it? She probably wants to invite us to eat a dog or something!"
"Haha! You think if we empty her pockets, rice will leak out?!"
"Look at her eyes! They look so small right now!" One noticed, as they all made their eyes smaller to try and mimic the young asian girl.
As she hid her face in her hands, tears spilling from her eyes. She didn't get it. Why were they making fun of her right now? All she wanted to do was to play with them, to try and finally make some friends. But now she wasn't sure if she would be able to do that. Perhaps her dad was right.
Was it because of her appearance? There weren't many people who looked like her. She couldn't help it; it wasn't her fault she was Korean. Didn't anyone else understand that? She was just as American as everyone else. So why did nobody want to associate with her?
She wanted to crawl into a hole right now; she wanted to go away.
She didn't understand right now. What was wrong with her?
She wanted to hide, her eyes welling up.
She wanted to—
"Hey!" a new voice shouted, different from the other kids who were older, at least by two, some even three years. "Just what do you guys think you're doing?!"
As all turned to see a young boy about her age, with blonde hair, tanned skin, and strange whisker-like markings. He was wearing an orange jacket and black pants, which she, for some reason, found a fitting color on him. The young girl could only grow confused at this person.
It seemed the older boys looked at him, confused as well, "Huh? Who the hella are you? "the oldest male, and the leader of the group, questioned.
Smack!
The young boy didn't answer, as he merely ran up to the older, taller boy, and smacked him square in the face for his troubles, as the male's head snapped back in a recoil, utterly shocked.
"Ahhh!" the boy cried out, being knocked back by the blonde's punch, nursing his hurting jaw. "Well, what are you two waiting for?" Even the other boys were shocked at this one's quick response, as they reacted, going for the blonde.
Though it would seem he was quick, as he delivered another devastating punch towards the older male on the right, though not quick enough, as the one on his right struck his back, knocking him over.
"Get him!" one of them shouted, as they all proceeded to kick and punch the blonde boy who was now on the ground, curled into a ball to try and protect his head and stomach areas.
Eventually, they were getting tired of whaling on him and finally got bored. "Tch, let's get out of here! This park is lame anyway," their leader told them, spitting a glob of saliva and blood right onto the ground next to the boy they had just beaten.
All the while forgetting the girl they had previously been making fun of, who just stood there, in absolute shock at what transpired.
What had happened? At one point, three boys were making fun of her for her ethnicity, and another boy had stepped in, and now he was on the ground, hurt.
Should she do something? She felt like she should do something.
And so she did, walking up to the blonde boy, poking him lightly to not hurt him even more than he likely already was.
"Umm… are you alright?" she asked him, and she expected no response. What she wasn't expecting was for him to rise suddenly, jumping to his feet, startling her. "Eeep!" She squealed, nearly falling onto her back right there and then.
"Ah! Can't believe those guys ran off like that, a bunch of cowards," he said, more to himself than anything. He didn't like bullies, and whenever he saw them bullying someone, he knew he just had to act on it.
As she stared at him, dirt and bruises littering his figure, though the blonde seemed not to care. "Ummm, you look hurt…" she told him, actually surprised that he was even moving right now.
He didn't seem to regard her until he did, looking straight at her, as if surprised that she was still there. "Huh? Oh, that, I'm fine, see?" he said, showing himself off. Even his clothing seemed to be ripped, though he seemed not to care.
As the boy suddenly spat into his hand, a mix of bodily fluids into his palm, as well as a tooth—an actual tooth! That the bullies had knocked out of him. "Ah, that'll grow back, it was a baby tooth!" he reasoned.
She didn't know if that was the truth, but didn't want to question him on it.
"Hey!" He spoke up, changing the subject, as his mind was racing. "What's your name?"
As the young girl blinked, actually surprised by his wanting to know. Usually, most kids their age couldn't look past her unusual ethnic appearance to bother asking.
"I-it's Zoey," she introduced.
The blonde boy outstretched a hand towards her, "Well, Zoey, name's Naruto. Do you want to be my friend? That way those guys won't pick on you again," he questioned with a smile.
The now-named young Zoey grew wide eyes looking at him, as she could see it was a large, crooked smile with holes in his teeth, and yet it was wide. Wider than she had ever seen, and with his blonde hair, contrasted with the blue, cloudy sky. She could say that he looked as bright as the sun. And she realized she didn't mind being within the sun's rays a bit longer.
Tentatively, she took his hand.
As a friendship formed, one that would span a lifetime.
End Chapter.
