I really love their dynamic! I particularly like how Xiulan clearly knows Suyin is into her and feels the same, but is content to let Suyin move at her own pace and not try and speed things along. She could easily say, "Hey, it's OK, I like you too," but I think she wants Suyin to build the confidence to express her feelings without feeling pressured to. And she repeatedly tries to make her feel safe and free to express herself without worrying about judgement. Meanwhile, poor Suyin still hasn't really gotten the idea that her feelings could be reciprocated. ;_; "Useless lesbian" is a cliché, but there's some truth to how difficult it can be to overcome that self-doubt and nagging inner voice saying, "She's just being nice. You're reading too much into it. Don't be a creep." You can do it, honey! Believe in yourself, and your feelings!

omg this is the first thing I come up to and I'm so happy to hear it! I'm glad you're on board with the confident and patient queer x useless, but adorable lesbian haha! At times, I'm somewhat afraid that relying on clichés would make it boring? But I guess, I may be on a good track as this opens up avenues for potential growth especially for Suyin! So thank you so much for this beautiful comment, it made my day and it definitely helps with overcoming doubts about the direction this story is going! And you said it heh, Suyin we're all rooting for you 🥰!!!
