Wellllp this chapter is way longer than I wanted and I even cut a ton out, there's about two chapters worth of stuff here, but I couldn't really split it in half at any good point.  Just just enjoy a giant chapter I guess! Of mostly talking.

Also some of the blocking (ie. where people are, if they're standing or sitting or whatever) might be a little wonky because of rearranging/deleting sections. I tried to go through it all but there might still be some whoopses. I probably rewrote every part of this chapter at least twice.

Great chapter! I don't mind if it's longer; I enjoy the conversations between characters. Speaking of which, i'm relieved that everything went okay with Rysa. I like the way your wrote it; it seemed more in character given her past experiences. I also like how we learned more about Keyd's mindset. I also noticed that we didn't get a response from Maedajon this time around, so his reaction is a little more mysterious. I like that it makes their fears more reasonable. Anyway, as always, I look forward to the next update :)

Thanks! I've really been trying to keep chapters shorter because of the nightmare that was the later Skiagraphia chapters of like 40k words (!!!!) and I know that in another draft I'll have to be cutting this all down...I've just turned way way way too wordy in the past couple years. A couple more years of worldbuilding and writing some of Rysa's POV story have definitely solidified things about her that I knew when writing the first draft, but didn't really incorporate into her mindset sometimes. Same with all the characters really, but Rysa's story has kind of already happened by this point so she doesn't have any huge life-changing events, just ongoing results and attitudes from those things. And yeah Maedajon was probably more obvious about stuff in the drafts and it probably made Keyd look completely unreasonable, when really they've both completely failed at communicating. Maedajon not speaking up and not acting on what he thinks or knows is how things got screwed up from his side, and he's doing it right here again. Glad you enjoyed the chapter!

Ahhhh I keep meaning to get around to commenting! I love this chapter, so so so much! I know you think it's a little long but I love the chapters when they're longer and there was a lot of delicious exposition here as well as Rysa's reaction to the whole thing which - dude - finally!!! What I've been saying all along, Keyd you dumbass, she was always gonna be ok with it! It looks like she's not even sure exactly what "gay" is aside from being some kind of treason, so she's all like "it's bad I guess, but you're my soulmate so... go team us!" Dude. I can't wait for the next chapter. Like, CANNOT. I have never been more excited for a council meeting. This is gonna be the most seat-edge-sitting, armrest-gripping group of people talking in a semicircle OF ALL TIME. I can't wait for Maedajon to stand up for Keyd and be like "you wanna punish him, you're gonna have to go through me" and for Keyd to be so amazingly touched because he never knew his dad cares about him so much. I guess I'm gonna have to wait tho cause there prob isn't gonna be another chapter for like 2 months, but I'm still crazy excited!!!

I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter! Rysa knows what being gay is, or at least what it is in theory since they don't really have a word for it, but she knows what the idea is. So she knows what's up, especially now that she has context for a lot of stuff from Keyd's life that she's witnessed and as individual events didn't seem that weird but now it's like 'ahh, OKAY" (which she kind of alludes to here). There will be a couple council meetings in this story; this first one might not be exactly what you expect! I'm not sure what story will be posted next month, I'll probably be doing a poll for it, so it could be another chapter of this :)
