Light and Shadow character Q&A

So here are all the character answers from the survey! I feel like it was pretty successful although I have no way of knowing if this was like 2 people asking questions or many people. This may be a thing I do again although I don't know if it would work for any other stories/series I have quite as well.

We're also going to pretend these questions are being asked by someone relatively friendly to the person being addressed, since in a lot of cases no way would some of these characters talk this much. THAT said, some still evade because they're that kind of person even with someone they know.

This was really fun! I liked being able to ask questions and see what other people asked as well. (: Is the copy of the book that Kir owns one that has a gay relationship explicitly stated? And it doesn't surprise me that he would have a copy of an illegal book, for some reason, haha. Kir & Darban's exchanges are all really endearing--I love Kir gently comforting Darban and then seeing their individual feelings about his injury and moving forward. They're such a sweet, mature and very believable couple and I love what we see of them. Thinking about Hahd as a dad makes me smile, I feel like he would be a good parent--I just imagine any kids he has would grow up surrounded by love on all sides. And damn Gannekein sounds so sad. I sort of feel bad for him, despite the whole almost assassin thing.

I'm glad it was enjoyable! It seemed to work out pretty well, at least for this series! Long story about this book: the original story was very obviously a gay relationship, although the main character was pretty much depicted as bi so there were other sexual encounters mentioned with women but the only real relationship was two men (a lot of stories from their ancestor race, lots of characters are basically bi because the society was very gender-neutral and bi-assuming). But basically the original story was in their older ancestor language and only had one written copy that was ever known to exist from the agin (ancestor race), but was copied/translated a lot in early pre-split-races clar times which are now considered the original translations. So in more modern times there's an argument used about the original translations and various specific words used in them to be like "NO clearly it was NEVER two men and the original clar translations are WRONG!" (and the /original/ original book was lost/destroyed in the war that split the races) and so all the newer translations used female pronouns for the one character (except that rare one that used genderless ones). That debate went on for a really long time and then suddenly and not very subtly a section of the oenclar archive that held all those original translations burnt down. So none of the original translations existed anymore, just the translated-from-translations ones. Because they just really did not want to accept this aspect of the book, especially because it's super popular (it's not nearly as popular in clarbach society so they don't have the same raging debate/issues with it). The version Kir has is one of those actual original translations because it was outside the achieve at the time of the fire. So it's not only the ONLY EXISITING COPY (at least, for the oenclar...), but would also be super illegal to be found owning not only because of content but because it's an original archive book. This is the longest answer ever, but in my world-encyclopedia for L&S there's like 10 pages about this story/book alone, so this is a very condensed version haha. And I like that people don't seem to be surprised that Kir owns an illegal book. :) Kir and Darban's story, when I get to finishing it up, is really different because they're younger and dumber. Obviously they've matured pretty well into themselves and their relationship, but the contrast is pretty extreme. At one point in the story Kir told Alan that he sort of saw himself and Darban in Alan and Keyd, and he was thinking a lot more of their younger selves and that their relationship could probably mature in a really similar way if it had the chance. Of all the big characters in this series Hahd is the first to have kids. So they'll get super spoiled by everybody who knows Hahd, which is a lot of people. He's also the only person to have kids for a while. Gannekein's not really that bad a person overall; he was trying to please his asshole dad his whole life and was pretty overpowered/colored by Arirsanya's ideas and opinions and never got a chance to think or act on his own. Spoiler alert; he'll be in, and a fairly present character in, the five-years-later story. Since that's right about the time he's getting out of jail.
