Chiaroscuro IV: sneak peek

Just a little bit of the next Chiaroscuro chapter! Get to see a character who hasn't been around for a while~ This is the direct start of chapter IV, so it picks up right after the end of the last one.

Next up will be the Obscura chapter!

I'd forgotten how much I like Law and his strange, awkward, aggressive way of acting around Alan. It was good to see him again! I can't wait to see what the rest of his note says. :) On a side note, is there a detailed physical description of him anywhere? I can never picture him properly or remember if you've specified what he looks like.

READ THE DAMN NOTE, ALAN! God, I'm so mad at Alan lately. First, he doesn't let Law tell him probably the MOST IMPORTANT THING EVER, then he doesn't let Keyd tell him what is probably THE MOST IMPORTANT THING EVER, and then he doesn't read Law's note that's probably filled with ALL THE IMPORTANT THINGS!!!! Alan! You stubborn little - many expletives! Anyway, I cannot WAIT for the rest of the chapter! I went on a binge and read all of the L&S PDFs. I don't know if this was ever part of the surveys (I missed quite a few of them :/ )but I was wondering if you were ever interested in creating a simple dictionary/phrase book of Ebai and/or Isji, with meanings, pronunciation, Kouml roots, and maybe spelling in either Alyla or Mjada - maybe also a short dictionary of Kouml words so as to better understand the Ebai and Isji words? I was thinking about starting to compile one myself, just from the words you've already translated., but then I wouldn't know the correct conjugations or all the personal pronouns (something I'd really like to know). I know, that sounds like a really big project ^^; but I kinda assume you already have a bunch of notes about the languages lying around so maybe it's just as simple as transcribing it? I was also thinking about making a font for Alyla and Mjada but it might be hard to do for Mjada because of the quadrant vowel system. Oh, also, I have a question about Occir, after reading the PDFs. And that's if Occir is so cool with the Oenclar, then why is he a Hndatah? Hndari preaches that Oenclar are inferior, but Occir clearly doesn't believe that. Unless he fell into it because of family and now it's too late to STOP being a priest. Also, have you ever thought about writing a story that takes place during the Summer Wars, or a story just about a Clarbach? Sorry I have so many questions ^^;; I just read all the PDFs lol. It'll be a loooong while before Alan reads that note. :) I think Law's physical description has been kind of mentioned here and there in pieces through the story, but he has dark brown hair, lighter brown eyes, and is kind of a generically handsome white guy. I kind of picture Colton Haynes. :)

Haha just realized you replied to my comment before I edited it with that HUGE paragraph (because I can't figure out how to create new paragraphs in Patreon :/ ). So in case you didn't see it, there's my FULL comment, in all its glory!

Ah yeah the way to make new paragraphs is shift+enter! I just learned this myself, it's not very intuitive at all, I usually wrote replies in another document and then copied them over, haha. Anyway, I'll reply to your other comment here! Yeah, Alan is being fairly dumb right now, but he is pretty upset and not thinking his best. Plus Law isn't making the best case for himself and Keyd did not try all that hard to say the thing he was trying to say. One of those things will get straightened out really quickly though! I was thinking about doing a phrasebook or something like that, especially since someone else just recently asked about it! It would probably be really useful since more and more terms are going to start getting used starting with this story. Pronunciations of letters were in the PDF so words can generally be figured out from there but I'd include that too. And all this stuff IS lying around like the personal pronouns (some of it is on my tumblr in the worldbuilding tag, before I did patreon I used to put stuff like that on tumblr) so it's not actually that big a job, just combining it all together into one thing. And actually I have fonts for both alphabets, even Isji with the quadrants (it makes use of almost every vowel with an accent, I have a key as to how to type it out - and they both have to be typed backwards), some of what was seen in the PDF were the actual fonts I made. I'm glad you're interested i this stuff, and since that's the second mention of a phrasebook I think I will probably do one! Or at least a document that can be added to when new terms appear, something like that. The way Ociir can be a priest of this religion and still be cool with the oenclar is because it's not the ultimate teaching of the religion; while it's a big part of it and the way it began, it's not like people go to temples to only hear about how terrible the oenclar are. It's also a regular religion that has ideals about community and devoutness and ways to live your life and Ociir believes in that part of it, and also in the comforting nature of faith. That's what appealed to him, not the part about the inferiority of the oenclar, which is pervasive in all of society so he couldn't totally avoid it, anyway. He can, also, choose not to focus on that so much in his actions as a priest and not enforce the idea personally, which is what he does. He definitely chose to go into the religion on his own, but he had several reasons for doing so that made sense to him. I have endless ideas for stories! A story during the war is definitely possible, so is one about a clarbach. Clarbach society definitely hasn't been seen as much, but I do have a whole story planned for Rysa which would include part of her childhood, so it would be seen there.
