This extended/deleted scene fits in after Alan's conversation with Martin and then Keyd in the evening. I included a bit of the regular story around it so it's easier to see where it fits in. Remember the best way to read it is to click on the grey link below the 'share this' buttons to go straight to the google drive doc! I cut this scene for several reasons. 1) Alan and Keyd have another scene right after this that's more relevant to their relationship, 2) Alan just spent a lot of time 'training' himself so it's fairly repetitive, and because 3) Alan is never really supposed to get that efficient with fighting the the first books. He just can't - not enough time, training, power, or patience. So including a scene where he seems to be getting more competent is probably going to confuse people later on the same way people all thought he should have been able to *SPOILERS* help Maedajon (which is why that entire thing with Keyd's wing has been completely cut. It misled people to the point of like...half of readers thinking Alan should have stepped in at the end of Chiaroscuro and saved the day somehow. Which, no.) Even though in this scene Keyd says, "this is NOT a battle situation" I can still foresee people wondering why Alan isn't better at fighting later on when he's had all of a week to learn it and only a few hours of practice in only training situations. But it's a fun little bonding scene and ya'll get to read it.

Tenebrism IX: extended scene

I really had to hold myself back from poking at one of the pieces. They still creeped me out, but I hadn't been this close to them when they weren't tattoos before. Unless I counted Rysa slapping me with a whip. "Yeah, but I don't have that option."

I'm not really sure why it took me months to finish this chapter, but I definitely enjoyed the development of Alan and Keyd's friendship. I honestly can't remember too much about the way things unfolded in original story to make comparisons...

It's probably better not to remember the original...:D Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying it! I really want to get back to writing their story very soon...
