A Lil' Burnout + On Next Update (Patreon)

So...

After around 3 years of development, keeping to a mostly consistent schedule...

I burned out. Tee-hee~

People kept telling me this would happen, so I can only blame them for this tragic incident.

Now, burnout comes in a wide variety of flavors. To me, it was suddenly becoming completely unable to make any progress at all no matter how much I tried. I struggled all month with this, evident in my lack of output.

Am I doing better now? Maybe!

But I'd like to talk a little about what caused this.

For a while now, I've had this nagging voice in my head, a voice that had grown louder until I couldn't ignore it anymore.

And what that voice kept saying was the following:

"I want to make something else!"

So my burnout is, in specific, with The King of Summer and adjacent projects. I fully intend to finish them, of course, but focusing solely on this cast for 3 whole years with very little changes has caused my brain to stagnate a little.

I've had many different ideas for different porny and NTR stories over the past years that I never did anything with because my focus was on KoS and KoS only.

It has been frustrating, to say the least. I've read some comments implying I won't finish KoS or do anything after KoS, and that is not true at all! I love this project, and I am still very passionate about it. But I realized I also needed to do something else. Something different. DIfferent story, different characters, even if it's just to warm up.

Which is why I spent a part of the last 2 weeks writing scripts for some of these ideas and even doing some character designs + renders. I needed a palate cleanse, a reset to get my creative juices flowing again. While it may sound like "useless" work, it has really helped me in getting me working once more. In particular when I focused on something with quite a different atmosphere than KoS.

Today I am back working on King of Summer with a clear head, though!

I have scheduled the update for this Wednesday, June 3rd. Due to the long delay, this update will count as a full update, meaning it'll come out for Beloved Patrons ($5+).

But Dandy and Wealthy Patrons will get something else during this week, so don't you worry!

These months of struggle have lost me a good share of patrons... and that's fine. It's what happens. But I fully intend to get back to my regular output, even if it might take me a bit longer. Thank you for your patience, everyone, and hopefully you enjoy what I've got in store!

I will make a post detailing a new schedule I've been working on after this KoS update is out~

I am not technically tired. I do want to keep working on these characters, especially since I've only got the finale left! But my mind kept asking to do something else as well. I've got too many ideas~

Thank you, finally you moving on something new and big: setting/story/characters/situations/scenes. In my opinion, investing so much in KoS was kind of a mistake, it's like you unloading everything you got in your sleeve just for one game with a same characters and setting. Get your rest, we'll wait for your return.

I love the game, but ever since the Kendo and Arato storylines finished I pretty much lost interest and stopped following. This game should've ended like a year ago imo. I'm pretty sure this is your first big successful project, and if that's the case I get the temptation to just keep going until it runs dry, it's always scary to try something new that may totally flop. There's definitely NSFW games out there that are massive and been in development for a decade or more and are still enjoyable, but those usually have a ton of lore, worldbuilding and characters that keep it interesting. CoC II is such a game for me for example, it has a super long story and hundreds of characters in an open world with new ones being introduced all the time, which prevents the game from feeling stale. KoS has a very large cast of characters as well, the problem is that it doesn’t fit the NTR narrative structure. In NTR the story is centered around the MC that you play as, and the MC’s loved one (gf, wife, mom, whatever) that gets “stolen”. That’s the core of the story and it has to provide the most intense and meaningful moments, the other characters are just “support characters”. There’s other girls for example but they’re here because they’re the MC’s friends, or the main female character’s friends, to bring out some aspects of their personality or help set up some cool scenes, but nothing more. In pretty much all successful NTR games you have a limited cast of characters and the MC + gf/mom have 75%+ of screen time. Here you have all those other characters (Natsuki and so on), I’m not saying they’re poorly designed or poorly written, but I’m sorry I just don’t care about them. I’m playing as MC (Satoshi) so I care about Mary, why should I care about some other couple’s relationships? Why is it getting this much screen time? You also have cool smaller games (like NTRMAN for example) that are a couple hours long but it doesn't hit as hard imo because you don’t really have time to get emotionally invested in the characters, that takes time. I think the sweet spot for this type of game is around 10-15 hours, enough to get you to care about the characters, you have the slow burn escalation where it gets more and more intense and then at the end you have the big reveal and you end on a high note. I think KoS does this really well on the “main” Kendo NTR ending btw, it’s great but it should’ve ended there or soon after imo.

hopefully this isnt delayed, especially for the extra stuff dandy and wealthy tiers were supposed to get on top of this update. I think people just want output at this point anything would be good, no need for anything flashy or huge.
