September 2024 devlog (Patreon)

Hi folks!

A bit over a week passed since the release of the latest Rune update. Not long ago I came back from a visit to a friend in the Netherlands where I'm looking to move (someone knows anyone looing for a flatmate?) and I'm slowly getting back into the swing of things. As I mentioned in a few earlier posts, I'm on a break from writing updates, feeling not only a bit burnt out, but also exhausted emotionally after the last few updates. I've poured a lot of emotions into some of the scenes that were some of the most personal writing I've done yet, and I need to recharge before I can carry on with working on the next bits of the story.

Still, the upcoming month is looking to be a busy one. Branny is working on the new Lake update relentlessly (scheduled for 1.11.2024!), and while I'm taking a break from writing updates, it's not a break from work. My personal list of things to do with and around Dawn Chorus has grown quite a lot and I want to tackle most of it in the coming weeks. Some of it I want to keep secret for now, but most of the tasks on it I can share with you:

- expand the Rune philharmonic scene according to the latest notes 
- implement day3/4 jump for Patreon builds
- reworks and general tidying up for Bjørn's day1/2
- Klaus day3/4 route finalise sketch
- make and publish a 2024 poll
- auction slots for town characters
- make a prototype VN from [redacted]?? (get sprites+additional writing)
- compile a list of illustrations+artists to commission
- changes and fixes to sprites (Rune/Devon mostly)
- create showcases for the new sprites for social media
- finalise tracks and release vol.2 of the soundtrack
- Broken Harbours Steam release

It's quite a lot in total and I might not be able to finish all of it before I go back to writing updates. I'm also doing some personal writing in the meantime as a refresher, so I'll be keeping myself rather busy. I'll be keeping you updated on any progress on Dawn Chorus-related stuff, and the next update you can look forward to will be v0.43 - Lake by Branny!

Also, expect a post with a new illustration with Devon very soon 👀 If you thought that the cafe scene from the last update desperately needed one, then I agree completely, and I'm super excited to unveil it, especially as it was done for us by an artist we didn't work with before. After I'm done with reworks for Bjørn's route, I'll make a new revised build of v0.42 that'll include the illustration and more!
