Hi!

We are now releasing the first update to Dawn Chorus, available here:https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1hnImRoyt8WLJnxZX_80__tmOzgajSGXI?usp=sharing

This link is intended only for patrons, the update will be available for everyone else in two weeks from now.

Unfortunately the CG intended for this update was not finished in time, we are still in process of negotiations with the artist, but we hope that we will be able to show it in our next update.

With more than 12,000 words this update is even bigger than the initial demo, and it's not the standard size of the update we will be providing in the future. A lot of that size comes from the fact that we had to write parallel scenes for different characters and choices, so to see all the content several playthroughs would be needed.

In addition to the new content we have made some changes to what was already in the demo - from fixing some mistakes (huge thanks to Rook for finding them for us, and for Alstor for doing a more throughout proofreading), adding some scenes (now Lake has a proper introduction), to making some small changes (we have changed the dynamics of friendship between Arvo and Mikko, please tell us what do you think about it).

We have prepared a survey for the update, you can provide any feedback there or in the comments below the post.

Dawn Chorus

We have found an issue with one of the routes that we haven't located before. We have just uploaded the fixed update, if you have already downloaded it we strongly recommend re-downloading the update.

Great update!

I doesn't work on Linux even though the 1st version did. I have never encountered a RenPy game that didn't work on Linux even though I played dozens, so I don't know why. After searching the error, it seems to lack the necessary font, so have you made any changes with that since the last version?

Dawn Chorus

Hello, No, we haven't made any changes. However, the version labelled as Linux version on itch.io is the same as PC version, this time we have separately built a version for Linux. Can you check if PC version works fine? If not, then we will again create a build without custom fonts and upload that one.

Jacek Jagosz

Before you even commented I checked the PC version and it didn't work either. Maybe you need to include all fonts with the game and not rely on the system ones?

Hi! Thank you for reporting the issue with Android too. The sprites were included in vn, but because of the file extension written in capital letters Android could not open them, which is not a problem for PC version. This of course shouldn't happen, but with only two weeks to finish this build we were short on time and didn't test the build extensively enough, we promise to get better with the next update :) We haven't changed anything with the fonts, and all the fonts used by the game are included with it, but there's a possibility that it's a fault of special characters taken from Norwegian. We have removed them from the project and rebuilt it, hopefully now everything will work. Link to a folder with rebuilt versions: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1CX6aIzI4sVWBU0jNNLOW6DdTxKjkxj1m?usp=sharing We have also uploaded the fix Android build to the main folder.

So the Android problem was caused because Windows is not case sensitive, but unix systems are, so for them "word" and "WoRd" are not the same. And as for Linux compatibility, new version still doesn't work. The RenPy error log doesn't show any problem apart from "Importing _renpysteam: ImportError('No module named _renpysteam',)" and the terminal output is "X Error of failed request: BadLength (poly request too large or internal Xlib length error)" so I have no idea what is causing them, fonts were just a wild guess. You can safely bring the Norwegian characters back. Now I'm going to test this game on a different Linux distribution to see if maybe the problem is on my side.

Dawn Chorus

I tried reading about possible causes of that error online, and I found this: https://github.com/godotengine/godot/issues/19716 I think that the issue might be due to the icon for the game being too large, and we indeed have changed the icon between the builds. I've rebuilt the project with a smaller icon and sent it to a friend that works on Linux, and it worked for him. I took a look into the archive with linux build, and it looks like the icon is simply stored in game/gui/window_icon.png, you can try changing the icon and checking if it helps. If it doesn't, then I've uploaded the rebuilt project to the folder linked in the main post.

Now all works perfectly, including the sprites, thank you so much!
