Billing Updates (Patreon)

Hey there Patrons!

I am forever trapped in the whims of the oligarchs tech executives in the capitalist hellscape we find ourselves living in, and this time I get to blame Apple and Patreon! Yay!

Come November I am being forced to switch to Subscription Billing for the Patreon. Apple, as usual, are being complete and total fuckheads when it comes to their platform and are forcing Patreon to:

A) Use Apple's in app purchases (which Apple takes a 30% cut off holy fuck, fuck Apple seriously stop using their products).

or

B) No longer be available on Apple's platform.

Patreon claims this requires them to switch every account that wasn't using Subscription billing into being forced to use Subscription billing, but because Patreon has been trying to ram Subscription billing down my throat for the past two fucking years I don't actually believe them for a second; they probably just have an excuse that feels real enough to force the issue.

If you currently subscribe to this Patreon on Apple: Cancel your subscription and resubscribe on a different platform, since otherwise the price of your subscription is going up by 30% in November and that 30% is going entirely to lining the pockets of a billion dollar corporation that is doing its absolute best at being a monopoly. I have the option to reduce my prices by 30% specifically for Apple and just eat the costs myself, but I am not doing that lmao.

I can technically delay this forced changeover until 2025, but it means anyone using the Apple store won't be able to subscribe to the Patreon at all, so I don't really see the point.

I still find it incredibly fucking stupid that they can switch an account to a different billing method, but they just refuse to let me switch to one I actually want. Guess Patreon is finally getting what they wanted at the expense of the creators who actually provide the content they monetize.

Fuck Apple, and fuck Patreon for capitulating to them.
