This article contains new winter and storm-themed archetypes and class features for the barbarian, unchained barbarian, bard, legendary bard, druid, sorcerer, and stormbound!

New Barbarian and Unchained Barbarian Archetype: Living Storm

These barbarians are infused with the power of the storms themselves, allowing them to release their inner fury as a violent tempest.

Storm Rage (Su)

The living storm can call upon the furious tempest that resides within them in the storm of a storm rage, causing it to spill outwards into a violent Storm veil. Starting at 1st level, a living storm can rage for a number of rounds per day equal to 4 + their Constitution modifier. At each level after 1st, they can rage for 2 additional rounds. Temporary increases to Constitution, such as those gained from rage and spells like bear’s endurance, do not increase the total number of rounds that a living storm can rage per day. A living storm can enter rage as a free action. The total number of rounds of rage per day is renewed after resting for 8 hours, although these hours do not need to be consecutive.

When the living storm gains this ability, they select a number of Storm veils equal to their Constitution modifier and treat those as their veil list for this ability. If the living storm later gains a permanent increase to their Constitution that increases their Constitution modifier, they select new veils to add to this list.

While in a storm rage, the living storm gains a +2 bonus on Will saves, a -2 penalty to Armor Class, and gains 2 temporary hit points per barbarian level. These temporary hit points disappear when the rage ends, and are not replenished if the living storm enters a rage again within 1 minute of their previous rage.

Additionally, the living storm immediately shapes a single Storm veil from their veil list, treating it as if it were invested with a number of points of essence equal to its maximum essence capacity. This effective essence cannot be burned or reinvested. The living storm treats their veilweaver level as equal to their barbarian level for this veil, and uses their Constitution modifier as their veilweaving modifier for this veil.

When the living storm’s rage ends, the veil immediately unshapes.

The living storm has limited control over the effects of this Storm veil, allowing them to protect their allies from its effects. When they start their storm rage, they select a number of creatures equal to their Constitution modifier + 1/2 their barbarian level (rounded down). If one of these creatures would be subjected to a saving throw from the living storm’s Storm veils, they are treated as automatically passing that saving throw. If they are subjected to an attack roll or combat maneuver from the effects of the living storm’s Storm veils it is treated as a miss. If they were to take damage from the living storm’s Storm veils, that damage is reduced to 0. These same properties apply to the living storm as a well.

While in a storm rage, the living storm cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skill (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration (such as spellcasting). They can use any abilities of their Storm veil during a storm rage, even if those abilities would require concentration or require them to make a skill check they cannot normally make under the effects of their rage.

The living storm can end their storm rage as a free action, and is fatigued for 1 minute after a storm rage ends. A barbarian can’t enter a new storm rage while fatigued or exhausted, but can otherwise enter a storm rage multiple times per day. If the living storm falls unconscious, their rage immediately ends.

Storm rage counts as the rage class feature for the purpose of feat prerequisites, feat abilities, magic item abilities, and spell effects.

This replaces the barbarian and unchained barbarian’s rage class feature.

Rage Powers (Ex and Su)

At 2nd level, the living storm learns to channel the fury of their storm rage in new ways. At 2nd level and every 2 levels thereafter, the living storm gains either a rage power or a storm power available to the stormbound class. The living storm gains the benefits of rage powers and the benefits of storm powers gained using this ability only while raging. When gaining and using storm powers through this ability, the living storm uses their barbarian level as their stormbound level and their Constitution as their veilweaving modifier.

This ability does not restrict archetype compatibility for archetypes that trade rage powers at specific levels for class features, but does restrict compatibility for archetypes that modify the ability as a whole, or replace it completely.

This modifies the barbarian’s and unchained barbarian’s rage powers class feature.

Living Storm (Ex)

At 3rd level, the storm growing within the living storm begins to protect them, granting them a Resistance 5 to Cold, Electricity, and Sonic damage. Additionally, they gain a +1 bonus to AC, CMD, Saving Throws, and Strength checks against the effects of weather (both magical and mundane). At 6th level, and every 3 levels thereafter these bonuses increase by +1, and their resistance to Cold, Electricity, and Sonic damage increases by +5.

This replaces the barbarian’s trap sense and the unchained barbarian’s danger sense class features.

Empowered Storm (Su)

At 9th level, and again at 15th level, the living storm treats their essence capacity for the Storm veil shaped by their storm as if it were 1 point higher. This ability does not stack with the improved essence capacity class feature, or any other class feature that increases the essence capacity of the living storm’s veils.

Greater Storm Rage (Su)

At 11th level, the tempest within the living storm begins to grow in both power and ferocity. When using their storm rage, the living storm’s bonus to Will saving throws increases to +3, and the amount of temporary hit points gained when entering a storm rage increases to 3 per barbarian level.

Additionally, when the living storm begins their Storm rage they can choose from one of the following two effects:

  • The living storm treats their shaped Storm veil as if it were bound to the Storm chakra.
  • The living storm shapes two Storm veils at once. This ability allows the living storm to qualify for confluence feats, and does not stack with the effects of the Twin Veil feat, or any other ability that would allow the living storm to shape multiple veils in the same slot.

This replaces the barbarian’s and unchained barbarian’s greater rage class feature.

True Storm Rage (Su)

At 20th level, the tempest within the living storm grows to its true strength, continuously spilling out from the living storm. The living storm always has their Storm veil shaped and always treats it as if it were bound to its chakra, as if they were using their storm rage. Each round as a free action at the beginning of their turn, they can choose new targets to protect from this Storm veil and/or choose to unshape the Storm veil and shape a new Storm veil in its place. Additionally, the living storm can choose to suppress the effects of this Storm veil as a free action, treating it as if it were invested with 0 essence. They can unsuppress this Storm veil at any time with no action, even if it isn’t their turn.

When the living storm uses their storm rage, the living storm’s bonus to Will saving throws increases to +4, and the amount of temporary hit points gained when entering storm rage increases to 4 per barbarian level. They also shape a second Storm veil using the normal rules for their storm rage, treating it as if it were bound to its chakra. This ability replaces the effects of greater storm rage, and does not stack with the effects of the Twin Veil feat, or any other ability that would allow the living storm to shape multiple veils in the same slot.

This replaces the barbarian’s and unchained barbarian’s mighty rage class feature.

New Bard Archetype: Stormsinger

The ancient stormsingers would use their magics to call upon the powers of weather to push back their foes and to bolster their communities. In more modern eras, these travelling warrior musicians most often use their unique talents for profit and fame.

Song of Storms (Su)

At 1st level, the stormsinger can use this performance to call a storm into existence in the form of a Storm veil. When the stormsinger gains this ability, they select a number of Storm veils equal to their Charisma modifier and treat those as their veil list for this ability. If the stormsinger later gains a permanent increase to their Charisma that increases their Charisma modifier, they select new veils to add to this list. When the stormsinger begins this performance they immediately shape a single Storm veil from their veil list, treating it as if it were invested with a number of points of essence equal to its maximum essence capacity. This effective essence cannot be burned or reinvested. The stormsinger uses their bard level as their effective veilweaving level for this veil, and uses their Charisma as their veilweaving modifier for this veil. At 11th level, they also treat this Storm veil as if it were bound when they shape it. When the stormsinger ends their performance, the veil immediately unshapes.

The stormsinger has limited control over the effects of this Storm veil, allowing them to protect their allies from its effects. When they begin this performance, they select a number of creatures equal to their Charisma modifier + 1/2 their bard level (rounded down). If one of these creatures would be subjected to a saving throw from the stormsinger’s Storm veils, they are treated as automatically passing that saving throw. If they are subjected to an attack roll or combat maneuver from the effects of the stormsinger’s Storm veils it is treated as a miss. If they were to take damage from the stormsinger’s Storm veils, that damage is reduced to 0. These same properties apply to the stormsinger as a well.

At 8th level, and again at 14th level, the stormsinger treats their essence capacity for this Storm veil as if it were 1 point higher. This ability does not stack with the improved essence capacity class feature, or any other class feature that increases the essence capacity of their veils.

This replaces the bard’s inspire courage bardic performance.

Song of Stillness (Su)

At 1st level, the stormsinger can use this performance to attempt to dispel effects that are altering the weather through magical means. Each round the stormsinger performs a song of stillness, they may select a single Storm veil or spell that alters or controls the weather within Medium range (100 feet + 10 feet per bard level).

If this performance is used against a spell, the caster of the spells rolls a caster level check opposed by a roll of 1d20 + the stormsinger’s ranks in the perform skill used to perform this performance. If the stormsinger succeeds on the opposed check, the spell is dispelled. If the stormsinger fails, they cannot use this performance against that spell again within the next 24 hours.

If the stormsinger uses this performance against a Storm veil, the veilweaver rolls 1d20 and adds their veilweaving level in opposition to the stormsinger’s roll. If the stormsinger succeeds, the Storm veil is suppressed for 1d4 rounds, or one minute if the stormsinger beats the check by 10 or more.

This replaces the bard’s countersong bardic performance.

Song of Calm Winds (Su)

At 1st level, the stormsinger can use this performance to calm the winds around them, creating a pocket of temperate weather. Performing the song of calm winds is a surprisingly easy affair, only requiring one round of bardic performance per hour of performing (spent at the beginning of each hour). While performing, the weather within Close range (25 feet + 5 feet per two levels) becomes calm and normal for the current season. This performance cannot calm magical weather or weather altered by a spell, Storm veil, or supernatural ability.

This replaces the bard’s distraction bardic performance.

Inured to the Storm (Ex)

At 2nd level, the stormsinger becomes resistant to weather, both magical and mundane. They gain the benefits of endure elements as a constant effect, and gain a +2 bonus on saving throws, Strength checks and CMD against Storm veils, weather effects, and wind.

This replaces the bard’s well-versed class feature.

Legendary Bard: New Bardic Performances

Calming Clarion
Components:
Audible and Visual

This soothing clarion calms the winds around the legendary bard, creating a pocket of temperate weather. Performing the calming clarion is a surprisingly easy affair, only requiring one round of bardic performance per hour of performing (spent at the beginning of each hour). While performing, the weather within Close range (25 feet + 5 feet per two levels) becomes calm and normal for the current season. This performance cannot calm magical weather or weather altered by a spell, Storm veil, or supernatural ability.

Stilling Serenade
Components:
Audible and Visual

The legendary bard can use this performance to attempt to dispel effects that are altering the weather through magical means. Each round the bard performs the stilling serenade, they may select a single Storm veil or spell that alters or controls the weather within Medium range (100 feet + 10 feet per legendary bard level).

If this ability is used against a spell, the caster of the spells rolls a caster level check opposed by a roll of 1d20 + the legendary bard’s ranks in the perform skill used to perform this performance. If the bard succeeds on the opposed check, the spell is dispelled. If the bard fails, they cannot use this performance against that spell again within the next 24 hours.

If the bard uses this ability against a Storm veil, the veilweaver rolls 1d20 and adds their veilweaving level in opposition to the bard’s roll. If the bard succeeds, the Storm veil is suppressed for 1d4 rounds, or one minute if the bard beats the check by 10 or more.

Storm’s Symphony
Components: Audible and Visual
The legendary bard’s performance can call upon the weather around them into a pocket of altered climate. When the stormsinger gains this bardic performance, they select two Storm veils and treat those as their veil list for this performance. When the bard begins this performance they immediately shape a single Storm veil from their veil list, treating it as if it were invested with a number of points of essence equal to its maximum essence capacity. This effective essence cannot be burned or reinvested. The legendary bard uses their bard level as their effective veilweaving level for this veil, and uses their Charisma as their veilweaving modifier for this veil. At 11th level, they also treat this Storm veil as if it were bound when they shape it. When the stormsinger ends their performance, the veil immediately unshapes.

The legendary bard has limited control over the effects of this Storm veil, allowing them to protect their allies from its effects. When they begin this performance, they select a number of creatures equal to their Charisma modifier + 1/2 their bard level (rounded down). If one of these creatures would be subjected to a saving throw from the bard’s Storm veils, they are treated as automatically passing that saving throw. If they are subjected to an attack roll or combat maneuver from the effects of the bard’s Storm veils it is treated as a miss. If they were to take damage from the bard’s Storm veils, that damage is reduced to 0. These same properties apply to the bard as a well.

At 8th level, and again at 14th level, the bard treats their essence capacity for this Storm veil as if it were 1 point higher. This ability does not stack with the improved essence capacity class feature, or any other class feature that increases the essence capacity of your veils.

Special: This bardic performance can be selected additional times; for each time it is selected beyond the first, the legendary bard selects an additional two Storm veils and adds those to their veil list for this performance.

New Druid Archetype: Storm Bringer

Nature sometimes chooses its most devoted servants to bring the winds of change where it is most needed. These storm bringers act as vessels for this divine power, carrying the power of nature’s storms within them and delivering them where they will most make the difference.

Stormweaving (Su)

The storm bringer gains the ability to draw upon and utilize the powers of weather in the form of Storm veils. The storm bringer gains the ability to shape a single Storm veil each day, using their druid level as their veilweaver level and their Wisdom as their veilweaving modifier for their Storm veils. The storm bringer treats Storm veils available to the stormbound as their available veils for this ability. Unlike normal veils, the storm bringer cannot normally allocate essence to or from a Storm veil. At the beginning of each of their turns while in combat, the storm bringer gains a single point of temporary essence, which can only be allocated to a Storm veil. This temporary essence can be allocated as a free action as soon as it is gained and lasts until combat ends, and then for 1 minute afterward. If the storm bringer enters combat again before this minute has passed, the duration of the temporary essence is reset. If they choose not to invest this essence when they gain it, or if they have no Storm veils that are valid sources to allocate it, that point of essence is immediately lost. While not in combat, the storm bringer can meditate as a full-round action to draw the powers of the storm out, treating each round they meditate in this way as a round of combat. However, they can only generate a number of temporary points of essence in this way up to half of their maximum essence capacity, rounded up (minimum 1). If the storm bringer has multiple Storm veils shaped or other receptacles that can accept this special essence, they can reallocate this essence normally between them as part of reallocating their essence normally. If the storm bringer suffers from Essence Burn, temporary essence gained from this ability is burned after any other temporary essence they possess, as well as after any other essence in their essence pool. If the storm bringer gains this ability from another class, they do not stack. Instead, they add the levels of all of their classes that grant this ability together when determining when they acquire the improved stormweaving ability.

This replaces the druid’s nature bond class feature.

Weatherproofing (Su)

The storm bringer can protect themselves and their allies from the effects of their Storm veils. As a free action on their turn, storm bringer can choose to grant limited immunity to the harmful effects of their Storm veils to a number of creatures up to their Wisdom modifier plus 1/2 their druid level (rounded down). If one of these creatures would be subjected to a saving throw from the storm bringer's Storm veils, they are treated as automatically passing that saving throw. If they are subjected to an attack roll or combat maneuver from the effects of the storm bringer's Storm veils it is treated as a miss. If they were to take damage from the storm bringer's Storm veils, that damage is reduced to 0. These same properties apply to the storm bringer as a constant effect, even if they would lose consciousness. This limited immunity persists until either the storm bringer uses this ability again, or loses consciousness. If the storm bringer loses consciousness, other creatures lose the benefits of their weatherproofing ability until they regain consciousness. If one of their Storm veils imposes other penalties that do not require a saving through (such as a reduction in vision range, making its area difficult terrain, or filling the area with high winds) this ability does not protect against those penalties.

Shifting Storm (Su)

At 2nd level, the storm bringer learns to tap into the chaotic nature of their Storm veils, allowing them to meld them to their whims. When the storm bringer rolls initiative, and at the beginning of each of their turns, they can unshape a single shaped Storm veil, and immediately shape a new one in its place. Doing so burns half the essence invested in the veil (rounded up, minimum 1), and is done before they gain temporary essence for the turn from their stormweaving ability. If the Storm veil they unshape was bound to a chakra, the new Storm veil they shape in its place is also bound.

This replaces the druid’s woodland stride class feature.

Storm Power (Su)

At 3rd level, and again at 9th level and 15th level, the essence capacity of the storm bringer’s storm veils increases by 1. This ability does not stack with the improved essence capacity class feature, or any other class feature that increases the essence capacity of their veils.

Storm Binding (Su)

At 9th level, the storm bringer gains the ability to bind veils shaped to the Storm slot.

This replaces the druid’s venom immunity class feature.

Improved Stormweaving (Su)

At 12th level, the storm bringer gains an additional point of temporary essence as part of their stormweaving ability at the beginning of each turn which they can allocate to their Storm veils.

Twinveil Storm (Su)

At 13th level, the storm bringer can shape an additional storm veil each day, and can shape and bind up to two veils which occupy the Storm slot. This ability does not stack with the Twin Veil feat, or other class features that would allow them to shape multiple veils in the same slot.

This replaces the druid’s a thousand faces class feature.

New Sorcerer Bloodline: Elderstorm

The Elderstorm, a confluence of energy that rages at the border of the borders of the elemental planes, had an influence on your bloodline far in the past. Now its energies manifest within you.

Class Skill: Survival.

Bonus Spells: Endure elements (3rd), with the windUW (5th), wind wall (7th), life bubble [as a 4th level spell] (9th), control winds (11th), sirocco (13th), control weather (15th), whirlwind (17th), storm of vengeance (19th).

Bonus Feats: Access Higher Chakra SlotAM, Access Low Chakra SlotAM, Access Middle Chakra SlotAM, Akasha Imbued BodyAM, Akasha Infused SpellsAM, Extra EssenceAM, Shape VeilAM, Veilbound MetamagicAM.

Bloodline Arcana: An elderstorm bloodline sorcerer can protect themselves and their allies from the effects of their Storm veils. As a free action on your turn, you can choose to grant limited immunity to the harmful effects of your Storm veils to a number of creatures up to your Charisma modifier plus 1/2 your sorcerer level (rounded down). If one of these creatures would be subjected to a saving throw from your Storm veils, they are treated as automatically passing that saving throw. If they are subjected to an attack roll or combat maneuver from the effects of your Storm veils it is treated as a miss. If they were to take damage from your Storm veils, that damage is reduced to 0. These same properties apply to you as a constant effect, even if you lose consciousness. This limited immunity persists until either you use this ability again, or lose consciousness. If you lose consciousness, other creatures lose the benefits of your weatherproofing ability until you regain consciousness. If one of your Storm veils imposes other penalties that do not require a saving throw (such as a reduction in vision range, making its area difficult terrain, or filling the area with high winds) this ability does not protect against those penalties.

Bloodline Powers: Your elderstorm bloodline gives you the ability to tap into the fury and might of the elderstorm.

Stormshaping (Su)

At 1st level, you gain the ability to shape a single Storm veil each day, using your sorcerer level as your veilweaver level for this veil and your Charisma as your veilweaver modifier. At 1st level, you select a number of Storm veils equal to your Charisma modifier and treat those as your veil list for this ability. If you gain a permanent increase to your Charisma that increases your Charisma modifier, you add new veils to this list. You gain 1 point of essence at levels 1, 6, 12, and 18.

Reshape Storm (Su)

At 3rd level, you gain the ability to reshape your Storm veils to your whims. As part of reallocating your essence, you may choose to take a single point of essence burn to unshape a single shaped Storm veil, and immediately shape a new one in its place. If the Storm veil you unshaped was bound to a chakra, the new Storm veil you shape in its place is also bound.

Additionally, you gain an additional point of essence, and the essence capacity of your Storm veil shaped using your stormshaping ability increases by 1. This ability does not stack with the improved essence capacity class feature, or any other class feature that increases the essence capacity of your veils.

Widening Front (Su)

At 9th level, whenever you invest essence in your Storm veil, you can choose to increase its range from Close to Medium range (100 feet + 10 feet per veilweaver level), or vice versa. At 15th level, you can choose to increase it from Close range to Medium or Long range  (400 feet + 40 feet per veilweaver level) instead.

Additionally, you gain the ability to bind veils shaped to the Storm slot, gain an additional point of essence, and the essence capacity of your Storm veil shaped using your stormshaping ability increases by 1. This ability does not stack with the improved essence capacity class feature, or any other class feature that increases the essence capacity of your veils.

Calamitous Storm (Su)

At 15th level, your storm veils increase in area when invested with essence. For each point of essence invested in your Storm veils beyond the first, their radius increases by an amount equal to their base radius. This range increase function similarly to a range weapon’s range increment. For each increment beyond the first, you treat the effects of the Storm veil as if it was invested with 1 fewer point of essence when determining its effects and saving throw DCs. For example, if you invest the Blizzard veil with 3 essence, utilizing this storm power would cause it to have a total radius of 75 feet plus 15 feet per 2 sorcerer levels (for Close range), divided into three 25 foot plus 5 feet per 2 sorcerer levels increments. At the farthest increment it is treated as being invested with 1 essence, the next closest would be treated as being invested with 2, and finally, the closest would be invested with 3.

Additionally, you gain an additional point of essence, and the essence capacity of your Storm veil shaped using your stormshaping ability increases by 1. This ability does not stack with the improved essence capacity class feature, or any other class feature that increases the essence capacity of your veils.

One with the Storm (Su)

At 20th level, you leave your physical body behind, becoming an aspect of the elderstorm itself. You become an outsider with the native subtype, and gain immunity to cold, electricity, and fire damage. You gain the blindsight ability, which applies only to the area of your Storm veil. Your body becomes made of wind and cloud that resembles the current effects of your Storm veil. You gain a fly speed of 30 feet (perfect), DR 10/—, and become immune to poison, sneak attacks, and critical hits. Any objects you pick up, wear, or carry take on the appearance of your Storm veil, but function normally. If you desire, you can cause your storm to surge in a specific direction, carrying you along at up to 600 feet per round with poor maneuverability. You are incredibly difficult to make out amidst your storm, giving you a +3 Insight bonus to stealth checks per point of essence invested in your Storm veil.

New Stormbound Archetype: Herald of Winter

To the creatures of the fey realms the seasons are said to have once been ancient, primordial beings that warred over the realms. Some are blessed by these powers, and are referred to be the fey as their heralds. The heralds of winter are one such group; mystical wielders of icy storms that carry winter in their wake.

Winter’s Weave (Su)

The herald of winter gains access to a unique veil shot: the Storm slot. The herald of winter gains an additional veil each day that must be used to shape a Storm veil. Unlike a normal stormbound, a herald of winter may freely invest their essence to or from their storm veils.

The biting chill of winter permeates the herald of winter’s soul, allowing them to call upon unique and devastating winter storms from beyond the mortal realms. Whenever the herald of winter shapes a Storm veil with the Acid, Electricity, or Fire descriptors, they can choose to shape that veil with the Cold descriptor instead. Any acid, cold, or electricity damage dealt by this veil instead deals cold damage.

This replaces the stormbound’s stormweaving class feature.

Winterproofing (Su)

Due to their unique connection to the primeval forces of winter, the herald of winter’s protection from the natural elements and the protection from their storm veils only applies to weather that draws upon the power of winter itself.

The benefits of endure elements provided by the herald of winter’s weatherproofing class feature only applies to cold environments (from -50 to 15 degrees Fahrenheit) and their weatherproofing’s ability to negate the damage of their Storm veils only applies to cold damage dealt by their Storm veil, rather than all damage.

This modifies the stormbound’s weatherproofing class feature.

Winter’s Intensity (Su)

The herald of winter’s connection to the powers of ice and cold is so intense that it permeates their essence entirely, intensifying their cold-based akasha. Whenever the herald of winter deals cold damage to a creature with one of their storm powers or veils, they treat that creature's cold resistance as if it were 5 lower (to a minimum of 0). They treat their foe’s resistance as an additional 5 lower at 3rd level, and every 2 levels thereafter. This ability to reduce a creature's resistance to cold damage does not stack with other similar effects.

Frigid Powers

If the herald of winter gains a storm power that can be invested as if it were a storm veil, they may instead invest essence in it as if it were a normal essence receptacle. In addition, if they select a storm power which deals acid, electricity, or fire damage, when they select the storm power they can choose for it to deal cold damage instead.

This modifies the stormbound’s storm powers class feature.

Shifting Winter (Su)

The herald of winter’s command over frigid storms allows them to easily and effortlessly shift their storms into a new devastating shape. At 2nd level, when the herald of winter rolls initiative, or at the beginning of each of their turns, they can choose to take 2 points of essence burn to unshape a single shaped Storm veil, and immediately shape a new one in its place. If the Storm veil she unshapes was bound to her chakra, the new Storm veil she shapes in its place is also bound. If the unshaped Storm veil and the newly shaped Storm veil both have the Cold descriptor, the herald of winter can use this ability without taking essence burn.

This replaces the stormbound’s shifting storms class feature.

Winter’s Blessing (Su)

The herald of winter’s involvement with the primordial forces of winter grants them protection against its effects. At 2nd level, the herald of winter and any allies benefiting from their weatherproofing ability gain 5 cold resistance. This resistance increases by an additional 5 at 4th level, and every 2 levels thereafter.

Herald’s Essence (Ex)

At 11th level, the herald of winter’s internal pool of essence begins to swell with the primordial wellsprings of winter, granting them an additional point of essence. They gain an additional point of essence at 12th level, and every level thereafter.

This replaces the stormbound’s twinveil storm class feature.

Piercing Cold (Su)

At 12th level, the herald of winter’s essence becomes so bitterly cold that it becomes able to harm even those normally immune to winter’s frigid embrace. Whenever the herald of winter deals cold damage to a creature who has immunity to cold damage with a storm power or veil, they treat that creature as if it has 50 cold resistance instead. This resistance is then reduced by their winter’s intensity ability, as normal for cold resistance.

This replaces the stormbound’s improved stormweaving class feature.

Avatar of Winter: At 20th level, the primordial forces of winter infuse the herald fully with its power, transforming them into its avatar. The herald of winter’s type changes to fey, they gain low-light vision (or doubles the range of their low-light vision if they already possessed it), and immunity to cold damage. With their body fully sustained by the powers of winter they no longer age, need to eat or drink, or need to breathe. If the herald of winter is slain their body and equipment discorporeates into snow and ice and they are revived during the zenith of the next naturally occuring winter storm on the planet they died (or plane they died, if the plane they died on has no distinct planets). They are revived at full hit points with all of their equipment, and may immediately shape their veils as if they had rested for 8 hours. If winter storms do not exist on the planet or plane in which they died (such as the plane of fire), or if the planet or plane they died on has no natural weather (such as a demiplane without weather), the herald of winter cannot be revived with this ability. For the purposes of this ability, a winter storm is any storm that occurs during the winter season, or any storm which produces ice or snow.

This replaces the stormbound’s avatar of the elderstorm class feature.
