These eight new Minor Veils further expand the capability of veilweavers in completing minor tasks normally accomplished by cantrips.

Aigrette of Specters

Descriptors: Figment

Slot: Head

Saving Throw: None

Faint spectral images circle around your head, forming a faint jewelry of ghostly light.

Shaping this veil allows you to call upon spectral illusions. As a standard action, you can create an illusionary sound or image within Close range (25 ft. + 5 ft. / 2 veilweaver levels). You can create an illusion that combines both a sound and an image as a full-round action. You can produce a sound as loud as can be produced naturally by a single human (such as singing, shouting, fighting, marching, etc), or an image that fits within a 10-foot cube. These illusions cannot create smell, texture, or temperate. Sounds produced by this veil can be any type of sound within the volume limit, but they can’t mimic intelligible speech. Images produced by this veil can be anything you imagine that fits within the size limit.

Maintaining these illusions requires concentration on your part, and requires you to stay within range of them. Once each round, you may move these illusions to any location within range of you, but you cannot change the sounds or images produced unless you end your concentration and use this ability again. You may only have a single illusion created using this ability active at a time, and it persists until you stop concentrating on it.

A creature who sees (for an image) or hears (for a sound) these illusions may make a Will saving throw to disbelieve. Each round they continue to interact with the illusion (touching or seeing an illusory image, or hearing an illusory sound) they may make a new save.

Essence: For each point of essence invested in this veil, the maximum volume of the illusory sound that can be created by this veil increases by 4 humans, and the maximum size of an illusory image increases by a 10-foot cube.

Examples of sounds and their equivalent sizes: A horde of rats running and squeaking is about the same volume as eight humans running and shouting. A roaring lion is equal to the noise from 16 humans, while a roaring dragon is equal to the noise from 32 humans.

Circlet of Life and Death

Descriptors: None

Slot: Head

Saving Throw: Will (see text)

Entwined bands of silver and onyx akasha wind their way around your head, forming a tight-fitting circlet.

Shaping this veil grants you the ability to manipulate the life energy of dying creatures. As a standard action, you can affect a living creature with 0 or fewer hit points within 5 feet of you and affect it with the powers of life or death.

If you choose to use life, the creature is automatically stabilized and does not lose any further hit points. If it later takes damage, it continues dying normally.

If you choose death, the creature must make a Will saving throw. If it fails, it takes 1 point of damage and begins dying. It can be stabilized later normally.

Essence: For each point of essence invested in this veil, the range at which you can affect creatures with this veil increases by 10 feet.

Cufflinks of the Telekinetic

Descriptors: None

Slot: Wrists

Saving Throw: None

Weightless pins of silvery akasha form themselves in the wrist-cuffs of your shirt, granting you minor telekinetic abilities.

Shaping this veil allows you to conjure a hand of telekinetic force to life objects for you. As a move action, you can point to a single unattended object within 25 feet that weighs up to 5 lbs and conjure a hand of telekinetic force to lift and move it up to 15 feet in any direction. The hand floats in place holding the item until the end of your next turn. This hand can be sundered as if it were one of your veils, save that it has no hardness and only needs to be dealt damage equal to your veilweaving level in a single blow to be destroyed.

Essence: For each point of essence invested in this veil, the range at which you can affect an item increases by 5 feet and the maximum weight of objects you can lift increases by 2.5 lbs. For every 2 points of essence invested in this veil, the range at which you can move the lifted items increases by 5 feet.

Earring of Safe Health

Descriptors: Divination

Slot: Headband

Saving Throw: None

This earring of gold and jade akasha hangs from your ear. In the presence of diseases or poison it glows with an ominous light and vibrates to a worrying rhythm.

Shaping this veil allows you to detect poisons, and diseases. Whenever you come within 5 feet of a creature, object or area that has been poisoned or diseased, or is venomous or poisonous, you automatically determine its state. The effects of this veil can penetrate barriers, but 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood or dirt blocks it.

This veil does not automatically grant you knowledge of the exact effects of the disease or poison you detect using this veil. You may make a DC 20 Heal check to identify the effects of any detected diseases, or a DC 20 Craft (alchemy) check to identify the effects of any poisons. These checks require no actions on your part, and may be done as you detect the disease or poison, even if it isn’t your turn. If you fail this check, you cannot attempt it again against the same disease or poison until 24 hours have passed.

Essence: For each point of essence invested in this veil, the range at which you can detect poisons and diseases increases by 5 feet.

Gauntlets of Disruption

Descriptors: None

Slot: Hands

Saving Throw: None

These gauntlets snugly fit your hands, arcing with faint sparks of black energy whenever you move your fingers.

Shaping this veil grants you the ability to touch a creature and disrupt it with destructive energies. As a standard action, you can make a melee touch attack against a single creature, dealing 1d3 damage on a successful hit. This damage ignores any form of damage reduction or resistance except DR/—.

Essence: For each point of essence invested in this veil, your touch deals an additional 1d3 points of damage.

Hands of the Mender

Descriptors: Minor

Slot: Hands

Saving Throw: None

Ripples of akasha in the shape of gears and cogs constantly turning form mesmerizing patterns on your hands, allowing you to repair items using your essence.

Shaping this veil allows you to utilize your essence to mend damaged objects. By spending 10 minutes meditating on a single damaged object weighing no more than 1 lb. per veilweaver level, you can restore 1d4 hit points to it. All of the pieces of an object must be present for this ability to function. For particularly large or complicated objects, such as a ship or an engine, individual parts of the object may count as individual objects for the purposes of this ability, at your GM’s discretion.

Damaged magic items can be repaired using this veil, but you must possess a veilweaver level equal to or higher than the magic item’s caster level. You can utilize this ability to repair destroyed objects, but this does not restore the magical properties of destroyed magic items. You cannot use this ability to restore the hit points of creatures, such as constructs.

Essence: For each point of essence invested in this veil, the time spent meditating on an item to mend it is reduced by 2 minutes. At 5 points of essence, you may instead repair an object as a standard action. For each point of essence invested beyond 5, you restore an additional 1d4 hit points to damaged objects with each use of this veil.

Penannular of Prestidigitation

Descriptors: Minor

Slot: Wrists

Saving Throw: None

This strange half-circle of bronzed akasha shapes itself snugly around your wrist. Its surface shifts and swirls along with your thoughts.

Shaping this veil grants you the ability to produce a wide variety of minor magical effects. As a standard action, you can create a minor magical effect. These effects have a range of 10 feet, and are either instantaneous effects or have a duration of 1 hour. These effects are minor and have severe limitations: They cannot deal damage or affect the concentration of spellcasters, and they cannot duplicate the effects of any spell or veil. The following are some examples of effects this veil can produce:

  • You may clean, soil 1 cubic foot of material as an instantaneous effect.
  • You may color up to 1 cubic foot of material for 1 hour.
  • You may chill, warm, or flavor 1 point of nonliving material as an instantaneous effect.
  • You can cause a single object smaller than 1 cubic foot to glow like a candle for 1 hour.
  • You can create a small hand-held object that persists for 1 hour. This object looks crude and artificial, and is extremely fragile. It can’t be used as a tool, a weapon, or as a spell component.
  • You can inscribe a personal mark or piece of text which must fit within 1 sq. ft as an instantaneous effect.
  • You can create a minor illusionary effect, such as a faint breeze that rustles your cloak, causing your eyes to glow, making a quiet and obviously false sound, or creating a faint smell. These effects persist for a maximum of an hour.

Essence: For each point of essence invested in this veil, the range at which you can create these magical effects increases by 5 feet, and the duration of these magical effects is increased by 1 hour.

Spectacles of the Scribe

Descriptors: Minor

Slot: Headband

Saving Throw: None

These tiny half-moon glasses rest upon the bridge of your nose. By pushing them up to your eyes, a magical quill springs to your hand, allowing you to rapidly copy text.

Shaping this veil allows you to call upon a magical quill that produces its own magical ink and allows you to quickly copy text. The magic quill provided by this veil produces its own ink in any color and texture you desire. You can change the color and texture of this ink at a whim, allowing you to effectively emulate any writing utensil, such as chalk, charcoal, or graphite. These properties allow you to write on surfaces that may normally be unfeasible for an inked quill, such as a stone slate.

Additionally, by taking one minute of time, you can copy a single normal-sized page’s worth of text to a blank writing surface. This text produced by this ability is written in your hand, but you can use the Linguistics skill to produce a more accurate copy without increasing the time required to copy a page. This minute of time requires total concentration on your part, allowing you to take no other actions during the time you spend copying text (except for free or swift actions that require little mental concentration, such as talking).

Essence: For each point of essence invested in this veil, the time it takes to copy a single page of text is reduced by 2 rounds. At 5 points of essence, you instead copy two full pages of text per round. For each point of essence invested above 5, you copy an additional page each round.
