This article contains a new set of veils themed around undead: creating them, commanding them, befriending them, and imitating them!

This idea was pitched by Calyst as part of the rewards for the Muse tier!

New Veil Set: Gravelord’s Regalia

The following veils printed in Akashic Mysteries also belong to this veil set: Deathchannel Ring, Heart of the Wight, and Plaguebringer’s Gauntlets.

Coronet of the Gravelord

Descriptors: Divination

Class: Guru, Nexus, Vizier

Slot: Headband

Saving Throw: Will (see text)

A crown of blackened metal and bone rests upon your brow, displaying your dominion over the forces of the dead and damned.

Shaping this veil allows you to detect the presence of undead creatures, and causes them to view you favorably. You gain the effects of detect undead in a 30-foot radius emanation as a constant effect. When determining the effects of this ability, you are always treated as if you had concentrated on the effect for three rounds.

When interacting with undead, their starting attitudes towards you are improved. Mindless undead have a starting attitude of indifferent, and intelligent undead have their starting attitude improved by one step, to a maximum of indifferent. Mindless undead will usually ignore you unless attacked, intelligent undead will usually view you more favorably than normal, but may still attack you depending on their beliefs or motivations. When interacting with intelligent undead, you gain a +1 insight bonus to your Bluff, Diplomacy, and Intimidate checks made against them.

Essence: For each point of essence invested in this veil, the range of your undead detection increases by 10 feet, and the insight bonus to social skills when interacting with intelligent undead increases by 1.

Chakra Bind (Headband): Binding this veil to your Headband chakra allows you to impose your will on the minds of undead creatures. You may use command undead as a spell-like ability a number of times per day equal to 1 + your veilweaving modifier. When making opposed Charisma checks using this spell, you may use the higher of your veilweaving modifier or your Charisma. If you unshape this veil (but not if it is suppressed), the duration of all of your active command undead spells immediately end.

Grasp of Undeath

Descriptors: Death

Class: Daevic, Eclipse, Nexus, Vizier

Slot: Wrists

Saving Throw: Fortitude or Will (see text)

Bands of rotting flesh meld with your wrists, imbuing your touch with the energies of unlife.

Shaping this veil infuses your touch with energy that stills the energy of living beings. You can make a touch attack as a standard action against a living creature, if it hits they take 1d6 points of negative energy damage and must make a Fortitude saving throw. On a failed save, they are nauseated for 1 round. Living creatures healed by negative energy are not healed by this effect, but they do not take damage. This is a death effect.

When used against an undead creature, the undead takes no damage and must make a Will saving throw or flee as if panicked for 1d4 rounds.

Essence: For each odd point of essence invested in this veil, the damage dealt by this veils touch increases by 1d6. For every even point of essence invested, the duration of the nauseated and panicked conditions applied by this veil increases by 1 round.

Chakra Bind (Wrists): Binding this veil to your Wrists chakra further empowers its effects, fully stilling the life energy that fuels living creatures. When a living creature fails their Fortitude saving throw against this veil, they are paralyzed for the duration instead of nauseated. They do not fall prone or drop any held items as part of this paralysis. If a creature passes their saving throw against this effect, they cannot be paralyzed by this ability for 24 hours. If they fail a Fortitude saving throw against the veil during this time, they are nauseated instead of paralyzed.

Cryptbreaker’s Greatcloak

Descriptors: Death, Evil

Class: Daevic, Eclipse, Nexus, Vizier

Slot: Shoulders

Saving Throw: None

The tattered shroud of death cloaks your shoulders, unlife billows around you, empowered in your presence.

Shaping this veil grants you a cloak infused with the powers of the grave, allowing you to raise corpses to act by your will. You gain the ability to cast lesser animate dead as an at-will spell-like ability. When using this ability it requires no material components (save for the corpse to be reanimated), but you may only have a single undead creature animated using this ability at a time. If you create a second using this ability, the first is destroyed. The created undead creature still counts against the number of Hit Dice of undead creatures you can control using animate dead.

When using this ability, you may provide the normal material components. If you do, it is treated as a normal use of the spell for all purposes.

Essence: When at least one point of essence is invested in this veil, you radiate an aura of desecrated energy out to a range of 10 feet. For each point of essence beyond the first, the radius of this aura increases by 5 feet. This aura provides benefits to undead you have created using this veil based on the essence provided, as Table: Cryptbreaker’s Greatcloak, while they are within the aura. It grants a profane bonus to attack, damage, and channel resistance, and a number of temporary hit points. If these hit points are lost, they recover at a rate of 1 per each minute the affected undead spends in the aura.

Table: Cryptbreaker’s Greatcloak

Chakra Bind (Shoulders): Binding this veil to your Shoulder chakra further empowers your ability to raise the dead as your minions. This veil's ability to create undead now functions as animate dead. If you don’t pay the material costs, it follows the same restrictions as the base effect of this veil.

Soul of the Unliving

Descriptors: Death, Evil

Class: Nexus, Vizier

Slot: Belt, Body

Saving Throw: None

Your soul burns with the powers of unlife, corrupted by the spirit of the ancient ruler of the damned.

Shaping this veil alters your soul, imbuing you with profaned essence and warping your reaction to the powers of life and death. You are treated as an undead creature rather than a living creature for the purposes of effects that affect living and undead creatures, gain resistance 3 to cold and electricity damage (or an increase to your existing cold and electricity resistances) and a +1 bonus to your natural armor.

As a swift action a number of times per day equal to 1 + your veilweaving modifier (minimum 2/day), you may channel the profane energies of this veil to heal yourself for 1d6 points of damage.

This veil cannot be sundered or dealt damage. It can still be suppressed or dismissed through other effects. While this veil is shaped (even if it suppressed), you are healed by negative energy and damaged by positive energy.

Essence: For each point of essence invested in this veil, the amount you heal yourself with this veil is increased by 1d6, and the cold and electricity resistance provided by the veil increases by 3. For every two points of essence invested, the veils bonus to natural armor increases by 1. When 11 or more points of essence are invested in this veil, you instead gain immunity to cold and electricity damage.

Chakra Bind (Belt): Binding this veil to your Belt chakra allows you to separate a fraction of your soul into an askashic vessel, allowing your spirit to rejuvenate you in the case of your death. When you first shape and bind this veil, you create an akashic phylactery. This phylactery weighs 5 pounds, has 40 hit points, hardness 20, and a break DC of 40. This phylactery persists even if this veil is unshaped, but has no effects if you are killed without the veil shaped. You can recreate a destroyed phylactery or replace an existing phylactery once per month when you shape this veil. If you choose to replace an existing phylactery, the first is destroyed.

If you are slain while this veil is shaped and your phylactery has not been destroyed, your akashic phylactery immediately begins to rebuild your body at its location. This process takes 1d10 days, after which you awaken in your new body fully healed with all of your veils shaped,  2 permanent negative levels, and none of your equipment. After you awaken, your phylactery is destroyed and you must wait a month before you can create a new one.

If your body is destroyed while your body is being rebuilt, the phylactery begins to build you a new body immediately. If the phylactery is destroyed during this time, you are slain.

Chakra Bind (Body): Binding this veil to your Body chakra provides you all the benefits of binding it to your Belt chakra, save that the process of rebuilding your body only takes 1 day, you do not gain any negative levels upon awakening, and your phylactery is not destroyed as part of the process.
