Content
Thanks for checking out the February 2021 recap!
February 2021 was a bit lighter on content than normal, a lot of writing time this month was spent working on The Volur, which is being published by Legendary Games, and the Soulforge, which will be the first official book published by Studio M—! Keep an eye out for the kickstarter for it soon, and you can check out the playtest for the Soulforge here!
New Archetypes
The following archetype was originally printed in Akashic Might: Scholar, Striker, Stormbound, Rajah!
Record Keeper (Scholar Archetype)
Veilweaving: A record keeper learns to shape the magical power known as akasha into powerful veils. The record keeper uses their Intelligence as their veilweaving modifier, and has a veilweaving level equal to their class level. The saving throw DCs of the record keeper’s veils are equal to 10 + the essence invested in the veil + the soulforge’s veilweaving modifier.
At 1st level, the record keeper selects a number from the vizier veil list equal to their Intelligence modifier, and treats those as their veil list for this ability. At each level after 1st, they select one additional veil and add it to their veil list. Permanent increases to their Intelligence score allow them to add more veils to their list.
The record keeper can only shape a limited number of veils per day. They can shape 1 veil at 1st level, and gain the ability to shape 1 additional veil each day at 2nd, 5th, and 9th level.
At 1st level, the record keeper gains access to a pool of essence which can be invested into their veils and other essence receptacles to increase their power. The record keeper gains 1 point of essence at 1st level, and every 2 levels thereafter.
This replaces the scholar’s medical training, flashbangs, advanced medical training, and expert medical training class features.
Scholar’s Knack: A record keeper gains access to the following scholar’s knacks:
Binder’s Knack
The scholar has learned to bind veils to a single one of their chakra slots. When they gain this knack, they select a single chakra slot from the following list. The listed chakra must be of a listed level equal to or lower than their scholar level to select it.
Hands (2nd level), Feet (4th level), Head (6th level), Wrists (8th level), Shoulders (10th level), Headband (12th level), Neck (14th level), Belt (16th level), Check (18th level), Body (20th level).
This scholar’s knack can be selected multiple times, granting a new chakra bind each time it is selected.
Essential Knack
The scholar has learned to tap more deeply into their store of essence, drawing forth more power. The scholar gains an additional 2 points of essence.
This scholar’s knack can be selected multiple times; once for every 4 class levels beyond 2nd level.
Shaper’s Knack
Prerequisites: Scholar level 13
The scholar learns to shape an additional veil each day.
This scholar’s knack can be selected one additional time at 17th level.
New Feats
The following feats were originally printed in Akasha Expanded: Akashic Feats!
Akashic Aura (Akashic)
You have learned to invest your essence into the auras caused by your faith, further empowering them and improving their radius.
Prerequisites: Any aura granted as a paladin or antipaladin class feature.
Benefits: You may invest essence in this feat. For each point of essence invested, the radius of your auras granted by paladin or antipaladin class features increase by 5 feet.
You gain 1 point of essence.
Essence Forged Armaments (Akashic)
Your essence can be used to further empower your special armaments, increasing the damage you deal with them.
Prerequisites: Monk’s unarmed strike class feature, or warpriest’s sacred weapon class feature, or similar ability.
Benefits: You can invest essence into this feat. When you select this feat, choose a single class feature that scales with class level and replaces the damage dice of a type of attack (such as the monk’s unarmed strike, or the warpriest’s sacred weapon). For each point of essence invested in this feat, treat your level in that class as 1 higher when determining the damage of that class feature.
You gain 1 point of essence.
Focused Veil
You have learned to further focus your akashic powers into a single veil, hardening its essence and empowering its effects.
Prerequisites: Ability to shape at least 1 veil, veilweaving modifier +3.
Benefits: When you shape your veils for the day, choose a single veil you shape. Double that veils hardness, and the saving throw DC of any of its effects are increased by +2. This does not stack with similar feats, such as Ability Focus, Chakra Focus or Set Focus.
Special: This feat can be selected multiple times. You cannot apply its effects to a single veil more than once.
Veil-bound Detection (Akashic)
Using your essence you can better manipulate your senses, allowing you to prenaturally sense danger to detect hidden traps and foes.
Prerequisites: Con 13 or veilweaving level 1, Wisdom 13 or veilweaving modifier +1.
Benefits: This feat can be invested with essence. As long as it is invested with at least 1 point of essence, you can disable magical traps using the Disable Device skill. For each point of essence invested in this feat, gain a +1 insight bonus on Perception check to spot hidden creatures and to find traps, on Disable Device attempts, and to AC and Reflex saves against traps.
You gain 1 point of essence.
New Veils
The following veil was originally printed in Expanded Veils: Gravelord’s Regalia!
Coronet of the Gravelord
Descriptors: Divination
Class: Guru, Nexus, Vizier
Slot: Headband
Saving Throw: Will (see text)
A crown of blackened metal and bone rests upon your brow, displaying your dominion over the forces of the dead and damned.
Shaping this veil allows you to detect the presence of undead creatures, and causes them to view you favorably. You gain the effects of detect undead in a 30-foot radius emanation as a constant effect. When determining the effects of this ability, you are always treated as if you had concentrated on the effect for three rounds.
When interacting with undead, their starting attitudes towards you are improved. Mindless undead have a starting attitude of indifferent, and intelligent undead have their starting attitude improved by one step, to a maximum of indifferent. Mindless undead will usually ignore you unless attacked, intelligent undead will usually view you more favorably than normal, but may still attack you depending on their beliefs or motivations. When interacting with intelligent undead, you gain a +1 insight bonus to your Bluff, Diplomacy, and Intimidate checks made against them.
Essence: For each point of essence invested in this veil, the range of your undead detection increases by 10 feet, and the insight bonus to social skills when interacting with intelligent undead increases by 1.
Chakra Bind (Headband): Binding this veil to your Headband chakra allows you to impose your will on the minds of undead creatures. You may use command undead as a spell-like ability a number of times per day equal to 1 + your veilweaving modifier. When making opposed Charisma checks using this spell, you may use the higher of your veilweaving modifier or your Charisma. If you unshape this veil (but not if it is suppressed), the duration of all of your active command undead spells immediately end.
