New Monk Archetype: Astral Self (Patreon)
Content
This new veilweaving archetype for the monk allows them to tap into astral powers to project their body and unarmed strikes against distant foes.
Astral Self (Monk Archetype)
The astral realm connects all things, and the astral self seeks to connect all aspects of their life into a single unanimous whole using its power.
Astral Self (Su): At 1st level, the astral self learns to project their body using their connection to their astral ideal. They gain the ability to shape the Astral Pugilism veil with a veilweaver level equal to their class level, uses their Wisdom as their veilweaving modifier, increases the total veils shaped by 1, and gains a pool of essence. This pool of essence contains 1 point of essence at 1st level, and increases by 1 at 3rd level, and every 2 levels thereafter.
This replaces the monk’s unarmed strike and stunning fist class features.
Astral Essence: At 3rd level, the astral self’s connection to the astral plane grows in strength, increasing the essence capacity of their Astral Pugilism veil by 1. The essence capacity of that veil increases by an additional 1 at 9th and 15th level.
Astral Force (Su): At 4th level, the astral self’s connection further improves, imbuing their unarmed strikes with astral energies. They gain the ability to shape the Forcestrike Knuckles veil, and increase their total veils shaped by 1.
Force of Will (Su): At 4th level, the astral self can strike their foes using their astral projections sheerly through the force of their will, rather than their body. When making an unarmed strike augmented by their Forcestrike Knuckles veil, they may use their Wisdom in place of their Strength or Dexterity for the attack roll. If they choose to do so, they do not receive their Strength bonus to their damage rolls. When dealing damage in this way, all of the physical damage dealt by their unarmed strike is instead dealt as force damage.
This replaces the monk’s ki strike class feature.
Astral Attunement: At 10th level, the astral self’s attunement to their astral ideal further improves, allowing them to treat their Astral Pugilism veil as if it were bound to their Shoulders chakra. At 16th level, they treat it as bound to their Belt. At 20th level, they treat it as bound to their Body chakra.
Willful Maneuvers (Su): At 10th level, when using Astral Pugilism to perform combat maneuvers, the astral self may use their Wisdom in place of their Strength when determining their combat maneuver bonus.
Astral Step: At 12th level, whenever the astral self uses their abundant step ability they may also teleport any of their astral copies as well. Each astral copy may teleport up to the full range of the spell to any location within that range the astral self wishes.
This modifies the monk’s abundant step class feature.
Astral Projection (Sp): At 17th level, the astral self’s connection to the astral plane has allowed them to fully project themselves and their allies into it. They can cast astral projection as an at-will spell like ability. When doing so they do not need to pay the spell's normal material components.
This replaces the monk’s tongue of the sun and moon class feature.
Astral Emptiness: At 19th level, whenever the astral self uses their empty body ability, they can choose to have their astral copies become ethereal as well. They can make this choice individually for each of their copies.
This modifies the monk’s empty body class feature.
