Preface: Archetypes that replace casting with veilweaving.

When an archetype replaces casting with veilweaving it may cause some of their class features granted by additional archetypes to not function as intended. These archetypes account for the base features of the class, but in such a case you should apply the following changes to any additional archetypes applied alongside a veilweaving archetype, or to any possible future content added to the base class (unless the veilweaving archetype specifies otherwise):

  • Any class features that rely on the character’s casting ability modifier or casting ability score to determine their effects use the archetype’s veilweaving modifier or score instead (unless specified otherwise by the archetype).
  • Any class features that rely on their MSB or MSD treat their effective level in spherecasting classes as equal to their level in the class the archetype is applied to.
  • If a feature or additional archetype grants such a character a magic sphere, their levels in the class are treated as levels in low-casting when determining their caster level with that sphere, they use their veilweaving modifier as their casting ability modifier, and they gain 1 spell point if they do not already possess a pool of spell points. They are also treated as if they had the Basic Magic Training feat for the purposes of prerequisites.

Armsweaver (Armorist Archetype)

These veilweavers have learned to directly harness the essence of their very soul to create arms and armaments that they and their allies can wield.

Veilweaving (Su): Armsweaver gain the ability to shape the magical power known as akasha into powerful veils, which they draw from the daevic veil list. The armsweaver uses their Intelligence modifier as their veilweaving modifier, and has a veilweaving level equal to their class level. The saving throw DCs of the armshaper's veils are equal to 10 + the essence invested in the veil + the armsweaver’s veilweaving modifier. The armsweaver does not gain the ability to shape Blood-slot veils.

At 1st level, the armsweaver gains access to a pool of essence which can be invested into their veils and other essence receptacles to increase their power. The skinshaper gains 1 point of essence at each class level.

The armsweaver can only shape a limited number of veils per day. They can shape 1 veil at 1st level, and gain the ability to shape 1 additional veil each day at 5nd, 9th, 13th, and 17th level.

This replaces the armorist’s casting, spell points, and magic talents class features.

Armsweaver’s Power: Armsweavers use their veilweaving modifier in place of their casting ability modifier for the purposes of their armorist class features.

Weave Armaments: The armsweaver’s summoned and bound equipment are created and shaped using the raw essence of their soul. Whenever the armsweaver would be required to spend spell points to utilize an armorist class feature, they may bind a number of points of essence equal to the spell point cost of that ability instead. This essence is uninvested from any receptacles as part of this effect, remains bound and cannot be reinvested for the duration of the effect. After an effect using this bound essence ends, the bound essence is burned and can be recovered and used normally after being recovered.

For example; the armsweaver can use their summon equipment ability by binding 1 point of essence, which would become otherwise inaccessible for the duration of the summoned equipment.

Chakra Binds: At 2nd, 4th and every three levels thereafter the armsweaver gains the ability to bind veils directly to their chakras, unlocking potent abilities. They gain the ability to bind to slots in the following order: Feet, Hands, Wrists, Shoulders, Belt, Neck, Chest.

Improved Essence Capacity: Frequently shaping their raw essence into armaments has further enhanced the armsweaver’s ability to utilize it. At 3rd, 9th, and 15th level the maximum essence capacity of the armsweaver’s essence receptacles increases by 1.

Essence Catalyst [Pure Veilweaver Alternative] (Elementalist Archetype)

The following archetype is a pure veilweaving alternative to the normal essence catalyst archetype for the elementalist, replacing their casting with normal veilweaving progression.

Veilweaving (Su): Essence catalysts gain the ability to shape the magical power known as akasha into powerful veils, which they draw from the nexus veil list. The essence catalyst uses their choice of their Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma as their veilweaving modifier (chosen at 1st level, once this choice is made it cannot be changed), and has a veilweaving level equal to their class level. The saving throw DCs of the essence catalyst's veils are equal to 10 + the essence invested in the veil + the essence catalyst’s veilweaving modifier.

At 1st level, the essence catalyst gains access to a pool of essence which can be invested into their veils and other essence receptacles to increase their power. The essence catalyst gains 1.5 points of essence at each class level (rounded down).

The essence catalyst can only shape a limited number of veils per day. They can shape 1 veil at 1st level, and gain the ability to shape 1 additional veil each day at 2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th, 14th, 17th, and 20th level.

This replaces the elementalist’s casting, spell points, and magic talents class features, and the essence catalyst’s catalyze akasha and abundance of essence class features.

Catalyst’s Power: Any elementalist class feature that would use the essence catalyst’s casting ability modifier instead uses their veilweaving modifier when determining its effects.

Chakra Binds: At 2nd level and every two levels thereafter, the essence catalyst gains the ability to bind veils directly to their chakra, unlocking potent new abilities. The essence catalyst gains the ability to bind slots in the following order: Hands, Feet, Head, Wrists, Shoulders, Headband, Neck, Belt, Chest, and Body.

Improved Essence Capacity: Frequently catalyzing their essence found within their veils and their body has further enhanced their ability to utilize their essence. At 3rd, 9th, and 15th level the maximum essence capacity of the essence catalyst’s essence receptacles increases by 1.

The following class features of the Essence Catalyst have been reprinted for the reader’s benefit.

Essence Catalyzation: At 3rd level the essence catalyst begins to catalyze the essence within their bodies, automatically empowering their essence receptacles. The essence catalyst treats a number of essence receptacles up to their elementalist level  as if they were invested with one additional point of essence which bypasses their normal essence capacity. At 9th level, and again at 15th level and 20th level, the amount of additional essence increases by one. The essence catalyst may change which of their essence receptacles benefit from this ability each time they reallocate their essence. This ability does not stack with other abilities that treat an essence receptacle as if it were invested with additional essence, such as an akashic catalyst.

This replaces the elementalist’s favored element class feature.

Catalyzed Resistances (Su): At 5th level, the essence catalyst can catalyze essence within their skin, allowing them to better resist elemental damage. The essence catalyst can invest essence in this ability, gaining resistance to acid, cold, fire, and electricity equal to the amount of essence invested. At 11th level, this resistance increases to twice the essence invested. At 17th level, this resistance increases to three times the essence invested.

This replaces the elementalist’s elemental defense class feature.

Catalyzed Maneuverability (Su): At 7th level, the essence catalyst can catalyze the essence within their body to drastically increase their maneuverability. The essence catalyst can invest essence in this ability, granting them a 5 foot increase to all of their modes of movement per point of essence invested. This increase is an enhancement bonus.

This replaces the elementalist’s elemental movement class feature.

Catalyzed Sight (Su): At 13th level, the essence catalyst can catalyze essence within their eyes, allowing them to sense the essence that makes up the world. The essence cataly can invest essence in this ability, granting them blindsense with a range equal to 5 feet times the number of points of essence invested. If another creature enters the area of their blindsense, the essence catalyst immediately learns the amount of points of essence that essence has available to them, the number of veils they have shaped and the number of essence receptacles they posses, and the amount of essence invested in those essence receptacles. At 19th level, this ability grants blindsight instead of blindsense.

Catalyzed Soul (Su): At 20th level, the essence catalyst has catalysted their essence within their soul, immortalizing their body and protecting their essence. The essence catalyst gains an immunity to death effects and negative levels and no longer suffers ability score penalties from aging and cannot die from old age. If they had any penalties from aging, they immediately lose those penalties. They still accrue bonuses gained from aging. In addition, whenever the essence catalyst would suffer essence burn they recover the burned essence at the beginning of their next turn.

This replaces the elementalist’s energy body class feature.

Thoughtshaper (Eliciter Archetype)

Utilizing the power of veilweaving these strange magic users directly alter and reshape the minds of their foes.

Thoughtshaping (Su): Thoughtshaper gain the ability to directly shape the power to alter minds by shaping powerful magical constructs known as veils. Thoughtshapers use either their Charisma as their veilweaving modifier, and has a veilweaving level equal to their class level. The saving throw DCs of the thoughtshaper's veils are equal to 10 + the essence invested in the veil + the thoughtshaper’s veilweaving modifier.

At 1st level, the thoughtshaper gains access to a pool of essence which can be invested into their veils and other essence receptacles to increase their power. The thoughtshaper gains 1 point of essence at each class level.

The shaper of duality can only shape a limited number of veils per day. They can shape 2 veils at 1st level, and gain the ability to shape 1 additional veil each day at 2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th, 14th, 17th, and 20th level.

Unlike other veilweavers, the thoughtshaper does not draw their veil list from any particular class’s veil list. Instead, they treat every veil with the Charm, Compulsion, Emotion, Fear, or Mind-affecting descriptors as their veil list. If one of these veils would be shaped to an obscure chakra (such as Blood or Ring), they gain the ability to shape that veil to that chakra slot. This does not grant them the ability to shape other veils to such a slot. If one of these veils has the Title descriptor, the thoughtshaper may choose to remove the title descriptor from that veil, shaping the veil onto themselves as normal.

This replaces the eliciter’s casting, spell pool, magic talents and enchanter class features.

Persuasive Akasha (Su): The thoughtshaper’s veilweaving has placed a lingering enchantment upon them that improves their empathic abilities and further empowers their veils that affect a creature’s mind. A thoughtshaper gains a +2 insight bonus to the saving throw DC of their veils with the Charm, Compulsion, Emotion, Fear, or Mind-affecting descriptors, and a +2 bonus to their Bluff, Diplomacy, and Intimidate checks. These bonuses increase to +3 at 6th level, +4 at 12th level, and +5 at 18th level.

This modifies the eliciter’s persuasive class feature.

Chakra Binds: At 2nd level, and every two levels thereafter, the thoughtshaper gains the ability to bind veils directly to their chakra, unlocking potent new abilities. The thoughtshaper gains the ability to bind chakra slots in the following order: Hands, Feet, Head, Wrists, Shoulders, Headband, Neck, Belt, Chest, Body.

Improved Essence Capacity: The thoughtshaper’s ability to enhance their veils and themselves with their essence grows in power alongside them. At 3rd, 9th, and 15th level the maximum essence capacity of the thoughtshaper’s essence receptacles increases by 1.

Alien Thoughtweaving (Su): At 5th level, whenever the thoughtshaper would use a mind-affecting or fear effect caused by a veil or one of their eliciter class features on a creature who is immune to mind-affecting effects or fear effects, they may take 1 point of essence burn to instead treat that creature as if they had a +5 bonus to their saving throw against that effect instead. This requires no action cost on the thoughtshaper’s part, and can be done reactively to learning a creature would be immune to their effect. This cost must be spent for each ability used against such a creature.

Obscure Thoughtbinding: At 10th level, the thoughtshaper gains the ability to bind any veils they have shaped using their thoughtshaping ability to obscure chakra slots, such as Blood or Ring. This does not grant the thoughtshaper any abilities a class may gain by being able to bind such a veil, and does not grant them the ability to bind any other veils to those chakra slots.

Shadowed Illusionist (Fey Adept Archetype)

Utilizing the power of shadows these skilled and eccentric veilweavers shape trickery in the form of veils which they can use to obscure themself and to harry their foes.

Shadowed Veilweaving: The shadowed illusionist gains the Veilweaving sphere and Eclipse’s Tradition as bonus talents. They also treat all veils with the Darkness, Glamer, Illusion, Phantasm, or Shadow descriptors as veils on their veil list. They also gain the benefits of the Obscure Chakra talent, but only for veils with those descriptors. If a veil with one of those descriptors has the Title descriptor, the shadowed illusionist may choose to remove the title descriptor from that veil, shaping the veil onto themselves as normal.

This replaces the fey adept’s fey magic and master illusionist class features.

Veiled Mark: A creature affected by the shadowed illusionist’s shadowmark also suffers the penalty to Will saves against the shadowed illusionist’s veil effects.

This modifies the fey adept’s shadowmark class feature.

Reality Shaping (Su): Rather than modifying Illusion sphere effects with shadow magic, the shadowed illusionist uses the powers of their veilweaving to shape shadows directly into false reality. Shaping reality in this way takes 1 standard action and an expenditure of 1 shadow point. If the shaped reality has a non-instantaneous duration, it must be concentrated on as a move action each round, to a maximum of the emulated effects normal duration. At any point, the shadowed illusionist may spend 1 additional shadow point to allow their shaped reality to persist for 1 round per class level without concentration, up to a maximum of the emulated effects normal duration. If shaped reality emulates a sphere effect that costs more than 1 spell point, it costs an additional 1 shadow point per spell point it would cost beyond the first (this does not include costs spent to maintain the effect without concentration).

Shaped reality possesses all of the sensory effects to be believable by those who interact with them (smell, touch, sound, etc), but creatures who interact with shaped reality receive a saving throw (as described in their effect) to disbelieve them. The DC of these saving throws is equal to 10 + 1/2 the shadowed illusionist’s level + their casting ability modifier.

When shaping reality, the shadowed illusionist chooses one of the effects as described by the fey adept’s create reality ability. If they choose to create a glamer, it functions as described below instead:

Glamer: The shadowed illusionist shapes a glamer of shadow around a single willing creature within Close range of them. This grants the creature any one trait (except for traits that affect the mind such as Animal Mind, or traits that change the nature of the creature such as making it incorporeal) from the Alteration sphere.

The glamer must depict the trait to be applied (for example, the glamer must include wings to grant the creature a fly speed). This stacks with shapeshifts applied with the Alteration sphere (as it is an illusion and not an actual shapeshift), but only one glamer may be applied to an individual creature at a time in this manner. Applying a second glamer with shaped reality to a creature dispels the first glamer, provided they were created by the same caster, or the second caster succeeds at a magic skill check.

A glamer created in this manner may grant up to two traits at 12th level, and up to three traits at 18th level.

This class feature counts as the create reality ability for the purposes of feats, such as Psychosomatic Healing. If such a feat would grant a new ability to create reality, it instead allows the shadowed illusionist to shape reality with that effect instead.

This replaces the fey adept’’s create reality class feature.

Enshadowed Binding: At 11th level, the shadowed illusionist gains Bind Obscure Chakra as a bonus talent. They may only bind veils with the Darkness, Glamer, Illusion, Phantasm, or Shadow descriptors to their obscure chakra slots.

Skinshaper (Shifter Archetype)

Flavor text.

Veilweaving (Su): Skinshapers gain the ability to shape the magical power known as akasha into powerful veils, which they draw from the huay veil list. The skinshaper uses their Wisdom modifier as their veilweaving modifier, and has a veilweaving level equal to their class level. The saving throw DCs of the skinshaper's veils are equal to 10 + the essence invested in the veil + the skinshaper’s veilweaving modifier.

At 1st level, the skinshaper gains access to a pool of essence which can be invested into their veils and other essence receptacles to increase their power. The skinshaper gains 1 point of essence at each class level.

The skinshaper can only shape a limited number of veils per day. They can shape 1 veil at 1st level, and gain the ability to shape 1 additional veil each day at 2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th, 14th, 17th, and 20th level.

This replaces the shifter’s casting, spell points, and magic talents class features.

Skinshaping (Su): At 1st level, the skinshaper gains the skin shift ability of the huay, treating their shifter level as their huay level when determining the effects of the ability. Levels in this class and huay stack when determining the effects of this ability. When using their shift skin ability, the skinshaper can change their form or end their form as a move action.

This replaces the shifter’s shapeshifter, quick transformation, lingering transformation, extended transformation, and greater transformation class features.

Limited Bestial Traits: The skinshaper cannot select any bestial traits that only function using the Alteration sphere’s shapechange ability.

This modifies the shifter’s bestial trait class feature, but not for the purposes of archetype compatibility.

Chakra Binds: At 2nd level and every two levels thereafter, the skinshaper gains the ability to bind veils directly to their  chakra, unlocking potent new abilities. The skinshaper gains the ability to bind slots in the following order: Hands, Feet, Head, Wrists, Shoulders, Headband, Neck, Belt, Chest, and Body.

Improved Essence Capacity: The skinshaper’s ability to freely alter their own body with their essence has improved their ability to utilize it. At 3rd, 9th, and 15th level the maximum essence capacity of all of their essence receptacles increases by 1.

Natural Skinshaper (Ex): At 20th level, the skinshaper becomes a master of shaping their own form. The skinshaper gains the shapechange subtype and their skinshaping ability becomes an extraordinary ability instead of a magical effect, allowing them to maintain their skin shift while in areas of antimagic. The skinshaper cannot be unwillingly forced to leave any of their forms taken using skin shift, even if they would suffer from an effect that would force them to return to their natural form. Additionally, whenever the skinshaper would be subjected to a polymorph effect they can choose to ignore the effects of that ability.

This replaces the shifter’s second skin class feature.

Shaper of Duality (Soul Weaver Archetype)

Life and death, light and shadow. Each opposite sides of the same coin. The shaper of dualities embraces their paradigm, each day choosing whether to envelope themselves in darkness or light.

Duality Weaving (Su): Shapers of dualities gain the ability to embrace either the power of light or the power of dark and shape them into powerful magical constructs known as veils. The shaper of duality uses their Wisdom as their veilweaving modifier, and has a veilweaving level equal to their class level. The saving throw DCs of the shaper of duality's veils are equal to 10 + the essence invested in the veil + the shaper of duality’s veilweaving modifier.

At 1st level, the shaper of duality gains access to a pool of essence which can be invested into their veils and other essence receptacles to increase their power. The shaper of duality gains 1 point of essence at each class level.

The shaper of duality can only shape a limited number of veils per day. They can shape 1 veil at 1st level, and gain the ability to shape 1 additional veil each day at 2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th, 14th, 17th, and 20th level.

When the shaper of duality rests to shape their veils for the day, they choose whether they wish to embrace life and light or darkness and death. If they choose life and light, they draw their veils from the radiant veil list that day. If they choose darkness and death, they draw their veils from the eclipse veil list that day. If they possess a feat or ability that only applies to a single veil, they may instead choose to choose one veil from their radiant veil list and one veil from their eclipse veil list instead. They cannot select a veil on both lists with one of these selections (but can still select it using the ability’s normal selection).

This replaces the soul weaver’s casting, spell pool, and magic talents.

Power of Duality: The shaper of duality uses their Wisdom in place of their Charisma and their casting ability modifier for the purposes of their soul weaver class features.

Channeling Duality (Su): If the shaper of duality chooses life and light, they channel positive energy and gains Veil-Woven Channel as a bonus feat that day. If they choose darkness and death, they channel negative every and gain Essence-Bound Channel as a bonus feat that day. They are treated as if they had chosen that type of channel that day for the purposes of their soul weaver class features.

If they already possess either of these feats, they gain the opposite as a permanent bonus feat instead.

This replaces the soul weaver’s master of life and death class feature and modifies the soul weaver’s channel energy class feature.

Blessing/Blight (Su): If the shaper of duality applies the blight ability to a creature, the penalty on saving throws also applies against veils with the Darkness, Death, and Curse descriptors.

This modifies the soul weaver’s blessing/blight class feature, but not for the purposes of archetype compatibility.

Binder of Duality (Su): At 3rd level, and every 3 levels thereafter, the shaper of duality gain the ability to bind veils to their chakra, unlocking potent new abilities. Unlike other veilweavers, the chakra binds a shaper of duality has access to depends on their choice of life and light or darkness and death. The shaper of duality gains the ability to bind slots in the following order depending on their choice:

  • Life and Light: Hands, Head, Headband, Neck, Belt, and Body.
  • Darkness and Death: Hands, Feet, Head, Wrists, Shoulders, and Belt.

Improved Essence Capacity: The shaper of duality’s continuous changes in their bodies' attunement to their states of essence has begun to expand the control they have over their veils. At 3rd, 9th, and 15th level the maximum essence capacity of all of the shaper of duality’s essence receptacles increases by 1.

Veiled Hedgewitch (Hedgewitch Archetype)

Traditions: Choosing the veiled hedgewitch archetype replaces one of the character’s paths.

Class Skills: The veiled hedgewitch gains Knowledge (history), Knowledge (local), Knowledge (planes) as class skills.

Veiled Witchcraft: At 1st level, the veiled hedgewitch gains the Veilweaving sphere as a bonus sphere and uses their class level as their caster level with the veilweaving sphere. This stacks with caster levels gained from other sources.

Veilweaving Mastery: At 1st level, the veiled hedgewitch chooses to gain one of the following abilities. Once this choice has been made, it cannot be changed.

  • Adorned in Veils: At 1st level, the veiled hedgewitch can use their Veilweaving sphere to shape an additional veil each day. They can shape an additional two veils in this way at 10th level, and an additional three veils in this way at 20th level.
  • Lord of Essence: At 1st level, the veiled hedgewitch gains a single (essence) talent of their choice as a bonus talent. At 2nd level, and every 2 levels thereafter, the veiled hedgewitch gains 1 additional point of essence. At 10th level, and again at 20th level, they gain an additional bonus (essence) talent of their choice as well.

Secrets: A veiled hedgewitch can select the following secrets in addition to those normally available to them:

  • Veiled Tradition: The veiled hedgewitch gains a single (tradition) talent as a bonus talent, even if they do not meet its requirements. This ability does not allow the veiled hedgewitch to gain multiple traditions.
  • Essence Sight: The veiled hedgewitch gains View Energy as a bonus feat, ignoring its normal prerequisites. The veiled hedgewitch is treated as being able to bind Headband slot veils when determining this feat’s effects. The veiled hedgewitch may freely invest essence to or from this feat, rather than only being able to do so once per day, and may concentrate on the effects of this feat as if it were a sphere effect to extend its duration.
  • Akashic Mastery: The veiled hedgewitch gains a single (akashic) feat as a bonus feat. They must meet the prerequisites for this feat, as normal.

Veilmind (Symbiat Archetype)

These veilweavers have learned to tap into their latent psionic abilities to enhance their minds and bodies and to form telepathic links between themselves and their allies.

Veilweaving (Su): Veilminds gain the ability to shape the magical power known as akasha into powerful veils, which they draw from the guru veil list. The veilmind uses their Intelligence modifier as their veilweaving modifier, and has a veilweaving level equal to their class level. The saving throw DCs of the veilmind's veils are equal to 10 + the essence invested in the veil + the veilmind’s veilweaving modifier.

At 1st level, the veilmind gains access to a pool of essence which can be invested into their veils and other essence receptacles to increase their power. The veilmind gains 1 point of essence at each class level.

The veilmind can only shape a limited number of veils per day. They can shape 1 veil at 1st level, and gain the ability to shape 1 additional veil each day at 2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th, 14th, 17th, and 20th level.

This replaces the symbiat’s casting, spell points, and magic talents class features.

Collective (Su): A veilmind has learned to use their psionic abilities to connect their mind with those of a number of willing creatures to strengthen their psionic bond with them. As a standard action, a veilmind can join a number willing targets into their collective equal to Intelligence modifier or half their level, whichever is higher. The veilmind must have line of sight to each target, each target must have a Wisdom score of at least 1, and all targets must be within Medium range (100 ft. + 10 ft. per class level). The veilmind is always considered a member of their own collective, and does not count against this limit. Once a creature becomes a member of the veilmind’s collective they do not need to stay within line of sight of the veilmind, but they must still stay within this range.

The veilmind can choose to remove a member as a free action on their turn, and any member can voluntarily leave the collective as a free action on their turn. Any member whose Wisdom drops to zero or who moves out of range of the collective is automatically removed. If a member enters a field that negates magical effects, the connection to the collective is suppressed until that member leaves the field. A member who leaves the collective for any reason immediately loses any and all benefits they may have gained from being a member. A veilmind is aware of the status of their collective, allowing them to know which creatures remain members.

Whenever the veilmind activates one of their psionic effects, they can choose to only have it affect members of their collective. In such a case, all members of the collective are treated as if they are in range of that effect. When using the mind link psionic effect, it lasts for 1 minute per round of psionics spent if only affecting members of their collective. If they have the Lingering Link feat, it instead lasts for 10 minutes per round of psionics spent.

At 2nd level, the veilmind learns the general health of each member of their collective; whether they are uninjured (100% HP), wounded (99% - 50% HP), gravely wounded (49% - 0% HP), dying (less than 0 HP), or unconscious.

At 5th level, the veilmind learns the direction each member of their collective is away from them.

At 10th level, the veilmind learns the distance each member of their collective is away from them.

At 15th level, the veilmind’s collective range is increased to Long range (400 feet + 40 feet per level).

At 19th level, the veilmind’s collective range is limitless as long as the veilmind and the members of their collective are on the same plane.

This replaces the symbiat’s mental powers class feature.

Chakra Binds: At 2nd level, and every three levels thereafter, the veilmind gains the ability to bind veils directly to their chakra, unlocking potent new abilities. The veilmind gains the ability to bind chakra slots in the following order: Hands, Feet, Head, Headband, Neck, Belt, Body.

Improved Essence Capacity: The veilmind’s latent psionic ability slowly begins to improve their ability to invest their invest. At 3rd, 9th, and 15th level the maximum essence capacity of the veilmind’s essence receptacles increases by 1.

Greater Mind Link (Su): At 17th level, the veilmind may use any of their veil effects on any target under their mind link regardless of the distance or line of effect. This includes touch attacks made by a veil, but not weapon attacks made using weapons produced by a veil.

This modifies the symbiat’s greater mind link psionic effect, but not for the purposes of archetype compatibility.

Shadowveil (Wraith Archetype)

A shadowveil is almost more essence than flesh, able to discorporate into a cloud of shadows that can possess other beings.

Shadowed Veilweaving:  At 1st level, the shadowveil gains the Veilweaving sphere and Eclipse’s Tradition as bonus talents and uses their class level as their caster level with the veilweaving sphere. This stacks with caster levels gained from other sources.

This replaces the wraith’s haunt path class feature.

Possessive Darkness (Su): At 2nd level, the shadowveil gains the ability to shape the Pooling Black veil using their Veilweaving sphere. This veil does not count against their veils shaped, or the slot it is shaped in. The shadowveil can actively possess the pool of darkness this veil produces, treating it as a creature with a CR equal to their veilweaving level when determining its duration.

While actively possessing their pool of darkness, the pool flattens to form a 1-inch-high puddle of blackness upon all surfaces within the aura’s area but otherwise retains its normal effects. The shadowveil treats every 5-foot-space covered by this puddle as their space, they can enter the spaces of other creatures, their movement does not provoke attacks of opportunity, they lose any fly speed they possess, they gain a climb speed equal to their base movement speed, they gain blindsight within their space, and their reach becomes 0 feet. They cannot increase this reach, but may make melee attacks against any creature within 5 feet of the ground within the area of their pool of darkness. When moving, the shadowveil treats the center of this pool as their current space, and the aura produced by their Pooling Black moves along with them.

While possessed, instead of using the normal rules for sundering their Pooling Black the pool it produces instead has a number of hit points equal to 5 times the shadowveil’s veilweaving modifier and hardness equal to their veilweaving modifier. For each point of essence invested in their Pooling Black, it gains 5 temporary hit points while possessed. If lost, these temporary hit points recover at a rate of 1 temporary hit point per round. If it is reduced to zero hit points, the veil is immediately suppressed for 1d4 rounds and the shadowveil’s possession ends.

One With Darkness (Su): At 4th level, the shadowveil treats their Pooling Black as if it were bound to their Feet chakra, even if they do not normally have the ability to bind veils to that slot. In addition, they gain an insight bonus equal to half their class level on Stealth checks. While possessing their Pooling Black, this bonus is instead an untyped bonus.

Lingering Darkness (Su): At 8th level, when the shadowveil actively possesses their Pooling Black the duration of the possession increases to 10 minutes/level.

Persisting Darkness (Su): At 14th level, while the shadowveil is possessing their Pooling Black they can switch freely between their base form and the form of their pooling black. Switching back and forth is done as a move action. While in their base form, their Pooling Black retains the HP pool it normally has while possessed (and recovers any lost temporary HP while invested with essence, as normal), but is treated as a normal veil when being sundered or attacked rather than using that HP pool. When the shadowveil switches back to their possessed form, it uses the previous HP pool.

Shadowveil [Pure Veilweaver Alternative] (Wraith Archetype)

The following archetype is a pure veilweaving alternative to the normal shadowveil archetype for the wraith, replacing their casting with normal veilweaving progression and modifying the wraith’s class features to function using essence rather than spell points.

Veilweaving (Su): Shadowveils gain the ability to shape the magical power known as akasha into powerful veils, which they draw from the eclipse veil list. The skinshaper uses their choice of their Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma as their veilweaving modifier, chosen at 1st level. Once this choice has been made it cannot be changed. They have a veilweaving level equal to their class level. The saving throw DCs of the shadowveil's veils are equal to 10 + the essence invested in the veil + the shadowveil’s veilweaving modifier.

At 1st level, the shadowveil gains access to a pool of essence which can be invested into their veils and other essence receptacles to increase their power. The shadowveil gains 1 point of essence at each class level.

The skinshaper can only shape a limited number of veils per day. They can shape 1 veil at 1st level, and gain the ability to shape 1 additional veil each day at 2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th, 14th, 17th, and 20th level.

This replaces the wraith’s casting, spell points, and magic talents class features, and the shadowveil’s shadowed veilweaving class feature.

Shadowveil’s Power: The shadowveil uses their veilweaving modifier in place of their casting ability modifier when determining the effects of their wraith class features. Whenever one of the shadowveil’s wraith class features would require an expenditure of spell points, they must instead bind an equal amount of essence to use that ability. This essence is uninvested from any receptacles as part of this effect, remains bound and cannot be reinvested for the duration of the effect. After an effect using this bound essence ends, the bound essence is burned and can be recovered and used normally after being recovered. For instantaneous effects, the points of essence are immediately burned instead.

Possessive Darkness: The shadowveil uses their veilweaving level and modifier when determining the effects of their Pooling Black granted by this ability.

This modifies the shadowveil’s possessive darkness class feature.

Chakra Binds: At 3rd level and every three levels thereafter, the shadowveil gains the ability to bind veils directly to their chakra, unlocking potent new abilities. The shadowveil gains the ability to bind slots in the following order: Hands, Feet, Head, Wrists, Shoulders, and Belt.

Improved Essence Capacity: The darkness forming the essence of the shadowveil grows in strength alongside them, allowing it to be better invested. At 3rd, 9th, and 15th level the maximum essence capacity of all of their essence receptacles increases by 1.

New Wraith Path: Path of the Manipulator

A manipulator has learned to manipulate the veils and essence of their.

Path Sphere: Veilweaving

Path Possession: While possessing an unwilling creature, the manipulator can choose to reduce the essence capacity of all of the possessed creature’s essence receptacles reduced by 1 until they choose to end this effect, or until the possession ends. If this would cause a receptacle to be invested with more than its maximum essence, all excess essence is burned.

While possessing a willing creature, the manipulator may invest their own essence in that creature’s essence receptacles and veils. This uses that creature’s essence capacity. When the manipulator ends their possession any of their essence invested in those receptacles or veils is automatically uninvested.

Path Skill: Knowledge (arcana)

Improved Path Possession: While possessing a willing creature, the manipulator can choose to grant that creature the benefit of one it’s shaped veils. This veil uses the manipulator’s statistics and invested essence. The manipulator can grant the creature access to a different veil as part of reinvesting their essence (they lose access to the first veil). These granted veils do not take up the creature’s veil slots, and can be combined with other veils in their slot.

While possessing an unwilling creature, the manipulator can lock that creature out of one of their veils or essence receptacles; chosen when they first begin the possession. The manipulator learns of all of the creature’s veils and essence receptacles the creature has (making any Knowledge (arcana) checks to identify their effects, as normal). The creature cannot use or benefit from a locked out receptacle for the duration of the possession, and a locked out veil is suppressed for the duration of the possession. Any essence invested in a locked out veil or receptacle is immediately uninvested.

Greater Path Possession: The manipulator can now grant a willing creature the benefit of two of their veils, and can lock an unwilling creature out of two veils or essence receptacles (or one of each).

Sidebar: Wraiths and Veils

Wraiths and Veils

While passively possessing a creature, the wraith can choose to completely hide their veils. They cannot be detected via sight or magic until the wraith chooses to use them. Those veils become visible for the duration of their effect if used.

While the wraith is actively possessing a creature, their veils appear on that creature’s body and function as normal. If that creature had veils of their own, those veils are suppressed for the duration of the active possession. When the wraith reaches 12th level, they gain the ability to use their host’s supernatural abilities and thus their veils. If the host and the wraith have veils that share a slot, the wraith must choose which to temporarily suppress while actively possessing the creature, unless the wraith or their host has the Twin Veil feat or a similar ability that allows multiple veils shaped in a single slot. In such a case, they do not need to suppress either veil if that slot doesn’t already have two veils shaped in it. If they do, the wraith chooses which two veils in that slot they wish to keep, and which to suppress).
