Updates For the Future and a Short Break (Patreon)
Content
Hey there patrons! I am coming to you all today with some updates!
First, and most notably, I am taking a break on releases for January! The billing cycle for this patreon has been paused for January already, so you don't need to worry about being charged or temporarily unsubcribing for that month.
On to the why; Firstly, I feel like a nice break would do me some good. It will let me build up a bit more of a content backlog so I hopefully don't run into the same issues as 2023 where I was working up to the deadline almost every month. Not saying this won't happen, but I really enjoyed how November went as far as the balance of work to scheduling went, since October I was incredibly productive and got really far ahead on writing.
Secondly, I am going to be changing up the patreon significantly in January, and I want to give you folks a month of no payments to decide how you wish, or if you wish, to keep supporting me.
Patreon won't let me change an existing page to pay-by-creation, so I need to create a second one. This new page will become the primary page as of February 1st. Patrons will only be charged on the release of a new book, but it will otherwise function as per this patreon. Tiers will provide the same benefits as this server/
This current page will become the secondary patreon, focused more on support and access to Studio M—'s backlog. Keeping your subscription here will give you free access to books on our Patreon shop, and I am going to work on getting the backlog up onto the shop here through January. Currently, I am thinking that the normal Scribe tier will give access to the previous two, or maybe three, months releases for free on the store, and Muse will give the additional benefits it currently gives (pitching content, unique discord roles and Muse channel access). I might add a new year-long subscription tier that gives access to every book on the store for free as well. I still need to look into how those work.
I will be sending multiple notifications out to everyone once the new patreon page becomes active, to make sure you know when you are able to change your subscription over if you have the desire to!
Now, you might be asking why I want to do this?
The most important reason is for my mental health, since a strict monthly schedule has been causing me burnout off and on for the past year.
The second reason is so that I can maintain and potentially increase the quality of the books I am releasing. There were a few books in 2023 I wasn't super happy with the final product, and I wished I had another week or two to polish. Frustratingly, doing so would have delayed that month's release, which would then delay the next month's release in perpetuity until I could cram writing and rush the next release out, which would likely impact that book's quality. Going to a pay-by-release approach takes the stress off significantly. I will still be aiming for a one-book-a-month schedule, but knowing that people haven't already paid for a product I am delaying helps me mentally.
Anyways, I hope you all have a happy holidays and I can't wait to see what sort of stuff I can produce for you all in 2024!
