Dear Journal:

The biggest problem with walking before school is sharing a bathroom with my sister.  Of course, I use the word “share” loosely.  Michelle shares a bathroom the same way a pitbull shares a pork chop.

By the time I get back, she’s entrenched deeper than the Germans at Normandy (sorry…history test today).  Every morning this week, we've repeated the same ritual.  I bang on the door.  She says, “Go away, piggy.”  I bang again.  She says, “You should’ve gotten ready earlier.”  I yell for Mom.  She yells at sissy.  Finally, sissy lets me in.

“Why don’t you take your walks after school?  Or in the evening?” Mom asked me yesterday.  Fuck that.  I’m not adjusting my schedule around my sister anymore.  I’ve done it my whole fucking life.  People are always making things easier on Michelle.  She’s come to expect it.

So, this morning, I didn’t adjust my schedule…but I did adjust my route.   Michelle usually grabs a matcha latte from Starbucks on her way to school, so I figured I’d save her a trip.  And since she enjoyed the Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino I bought her on Sunday so much (she even said “thanks”), I got her a Trenta-sized one this time.

Aren’t I a thoughtful sister?

Michelle seemed to think so…at least for today.  She even let me into the bathroom without a fight.

Maybe I’ll do it again tomorrow?

PS: I might need to ask Dad for a raise in my allowance. That shit is expensive!

Very much starting to see the resemblance between this story and the “Jean Therapy” classic from a while back. Though Julie’s mother was far more explicit in her sabotage, I do wonder if we’re going to see scenes of Michelle at school indulging in cafeteria food or going off campus for fast food (and potentially some reflection on her popularity, possibly a jealous friend or two?) Lots of possibilities for the future, but given that the school year ends soon I am curious as to whether we’ll see that. I know you’re sort of coming up with this on the fly so I don’t mind musing about future scenes and topics. Loving the groundedness and slow burn, this has been exciting to keep up with! (And yes, I did notice the larger Starbucks size. No doubt the caffeine and sugar crash would stoke the poor girl’s appetite by noon, latest).

Thanks, Nacho! And, yes, please muse away! As you said, I'm largely writing this one on the fly (like Jessie herself), so speculation is welcome. It may give me some ideas to incorporate down the road.
