Two crooks on the run - I suggested that the older one might take on the female disguise, and somehow the ending turned out to be not my usual one.

Sad ending with an ironic twist in fortunes for each of the two escaped prisoners. Tightly paced with an almost inevitable denouement. I assume this will be in your crime theme volume.
