besties… WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THIS SHOW??? 😭💀

seriously.

every time I think I've figured something out, Shades throws another plot twist at me and sends me spiraling all over again.

this series is absolutely insane.

there are secrets.

there are lies.

there is drama.

there are approximately seventeen storylines happening at the same time.

and somehow...

IT WORKS 😭🔥

I should be confused.

instead I'm completely addicted.

we need to talk about:😱 the reveals that left me speechless🔥 the drama that keeps escalating every five minutes💅 the characters being messy as hell👀 the relationships that have me invested😭 and why I immediately need episode 3

what I love most is that this show has absolutely no chill.

none.

it wakes up every morning and chooses chaos.

and honestly?

I respect it.

because episode 2 somehow managed to be even crazier than episode 1.

every scene felt important.

every conversation felt suspicious.

and every time somebody opened their mouth I was bracing for disaster 💀

also can we talk about how addictive this show is becoming?

I started watching because I love messy high school drama.

now I'm fully invested in every secret, every rivalry, and every shocking reveal.

this show has me in a chokehold already.

tell me besties...

am I the only one sitting here thinking "this plot is absolutely insane" while simultaneously loving every second of it? 😭🔥

let's spiral.

I am a strong advocate of the principle that sex work is work and should be taken absolutely seriously and be respected. Everyone should make this decision for themselves. But the way the teacher is exploiting the desperation of her UNDERAGE (!!!) student to force her into this business is disgusting. Exploiting an insecure, vulnerable teenager like this is absolutely despicable and cannot be justified under any circumstances. I thought it was good that the series also shows this side of the business, because even though it can be a space for self-realization and empowerment, we still can’t underestimate how many young women are stuck there against their will. The fact is: a minor CANNOT give the necessary consent for such work. Especially not with her teacher. The power dynamics involved make me sick. I think it’s good that shades portrays this as absolutely critical and criminal—because that’s exactly what it is.

I agree and we have to remember the financial issues Earn is facing. These make it easier for P'Som to coerce Earn.

James Seo

Yeah. This episode almost had me quit the show because i felt so uncomfortable. Sex work is one thing when its between two consenting adults but this wasnt even close. Earn, in her desperation, to help her family was manipulated into the situation and Som...ugh. shes the worst. She also brushes aside Earn's discomfort when Earn says that her classmates might figure out that its her. You just know that if Earn gets on Som's bad side, Som can easily blackmail Earn into doing something worse or cause irreparable harm to Earn in other ways. I had to keep reminding myself that this is just a show and its showing the dangers that young people can go through in this type of environment. Som needs to go straight to jail

Stefy♡

Totally agree with you and I don't think the series is trying to romantize it but show it how it is, raw

GLadlyASH

Shisha is an absolute crazy evil bitch. Hate her. I cant believe she set up Earn for stealing. Like WHY? You were THAT jealous and mad she became a cheerleader and not you? Like damn... Also I liked Som at first, shes a hottie and she was pretty straight forward but then she just kept pushing Earn and that pissed me off. I dont think theres a huge age difference. 3-4 years maybe cause Som is only 20-22 i think IDK. Im glad Earn made friends with Belle though. She def needs a good friend in her corner who's not gonna take advantage of her and will stand up for her.

Girl nobody likes Som lol but the show does a great job at not trying to make her a "nice" or redeemable character, even the bgm that was playing while she was coercing Earn was sinister music, it's not a romantic or romanticized relationship at all which I like.

Jane (new girl), Nano: (HBIC/tsundere girl), Belle (rebel girl aka weird but not an asshole), Earn (super sweet but easily manipulated girl), Amy (popular player girl), Sophie (student council president girl) these are the main girl of the ensemble; the real challenge is keeping the side characters straightened out lol, there's Shisha Khaopan Bipor etc

last comment I promise lol, idk if you've watched Friendly Rivalry yet but I still highly recommend it. it's definitely in the same family as Shades imo. Sidenote: Oxytoxin seems like it's also going to be in the same family as Shades & Friendly Rivalry so it's the upcoming GMMTV show that I'm most excited to watch.

GlSpiral

I absolutely agree I think that sex work is absolutely respected in the case that it is two consenting adults or one, but as you said this teacher is exploiting a young underage student and using her need for money and he struggles to further corner her.

GlSpiral

Yes it was absolutely manipulative and sickening but I do think the show is doing a great job portraying it so far, but we shall see what happens I agree she needs to go to jail.

GlSpiral

THAT SCENE WAS CRAZY!! I think the age difference is not as much the problem as the fact that she is teacher, Earn is underage and she is clearly pressuring and manipulating her. I do love Belle and hers relationship I hope it continues.

GlSpiral

YES!! So glad that they are not trying to make it romantic because it feels truly sickening and I think you are supposed to feel that.

GlSpiral

Hahaha thank you for the breakdown!!

GlSpiral

I CAN'T WAIT TO WATCH OXYTOXIN! To me it looked like the best upcoming show on GMMTV. I have not seen Friendly Rivalry but I definitely want to watch it.

James Seo

I think so as well. Its doing a great job of showing how it is. And thats what i can appreciate from it. Like the show isnt afraid to really give us the bad.

GLadlyASH

Agreed! And she's def not doing it to help Earn make money, she's doing it for herself 🙄 I don't understand why she can't just find someone her own age

This is the last comment, I promise lol, but you really need to react to Red Velvet's Killing Voice and also to Friendly Rivalry. P.S. Red Velvet is a group with great songs and amazing vocalists; besides the group work, the members have solo careers and there's the sub-unit Irene & Seulgi—you've probably seen them in some TikTok compilations, though not together (the two of them deliver great fanservice thanks to the somewhat LGBTQ+ themes in their songs)—and Friendly Rivalry is a sensational K-drama.
