This punchline is really fucking lame, I'm not going to lie. This is, as they say on the internet, "cringe", but it at least does the job of establishing that Jill's into Riley. Pretty much the only good thing on the writing front here is Jill saying "80 degree humidity". I don't know why I like that, but I do. It feels more natural.

Riley's outfit here (based on male figure skaters) doesn't really fit the 80s rock theme of - spoilers! - his Dog Champion outfit, but I hadn't come up with that idea yet. I'm not sure if Rile pretty sure Riley was always intended to be an antagonist, and the small stakes and pettiness make him maybe the best villain in LotH, certainly one people reacted to more than Peggy burning a bunch of pigs, which taught me a valuable lesson. Up until pretty much right before he was introduced, Faunus in Saffron and Sage was intended to be a Riley clone, a total dickhead Saffron would eventually realized was a tool. At the last minute I came up with the idea that he was blatantly obviously head over heels for Saffron and she just didn't get it, and frees up some villainy for Milk - the actual villain - to do.

Jill's outfit looks like a generic punkgoth, but she's actually the only one who dressed to theme, since she's cosplaying WWE Wrestler Paige

Paige was actually a pretty big deal in wrestling at the time, as she was the first in a wave of women who could actually, like, do wrestling matches, at a time where WWE's "Diva's" division was an embarrassment, but she would get a career-ending concussion right before WWE started treating women's wrestling as a big deal in it's own right and not "underwear models to kill time while you pee".

Also, I just now noticed that Riley's shirt, his vision of what the band should look like, is the same color as Jill's guitar. I had an idea that Jill wanted to be lead guitar and Riley made her play bass (and she would go on to lead a band eventually), and that color match is the kind of subtle theme thing I absolutely would've taken credit for and called myself brilliant for doing if I'd gone that way, but as it happens it's actually a complete coincidence. About half of being a good webcomics writer is going through your archives, noticing little coincidences like this, and then acting like you planned it that way all along.
